  1. its absolutely fine for most users....only those who really know what they are doing are going to notice a major hike up in performance compared to more expensive lens units... Ive personally gotten some excellent shots with it....and some bad ones too....but then again I could say the same about more expensive lens's I have used...(read below..) Until you reach a 'better than average' standard using cameras skydiving...IMHO, the limitation is not the lens...its the users ability to use the camera settings to get the best out of both the camera and the lens (whatever that might be) for the shot you want, in the conditions you are shooting in stop being a lens snob saskia....
  2. nice pics...wow thats a big wing. Whats your take on deploying with the 'new' wing...compared to the 'older' non airlocked version Is it a bigger schlep..?? How have you changed your deployment sequence/practice?
  3. How will this affect delivery times for orders?
  4. How much flocking experience do you have KrisFlyz?
  5. I sunk out on just about every flock I was on....same situation as JDamn described....lotsa height and 'range' approaching the flock....but when getting in...and adjusting to the forward speed of the flock...bye bye It was /is frustrating me alot.....ie..lotsa of 'float' and range on approach but a big sink out when getting in the flock. I'm 210-215lbs and fly a Phantom....I have the means and ability to buy/handle a bigger suit ( and will be shortly) but I'm quite stubborn and realised this is a pure lack of skill/ability/body position kinda thing.....NOT just because I have a big belly/small wing. I've actively been working on my technique with this in mind and thanks to UC/Mccordia and a couple of Nethers Birds ( not to mention a shit load of solos) am making decent progression in my 'flocking' ability. Summary.......bigger wings help ( especially for us fatties) but its no subsitute for experience and technique....end of story
  6. hmmm...I'm not so sure I think the risk is higher than that , especially deployment from full flight.... 0:55>>01:00 (slow it down a little...that looks pretty close to me) http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=4158&string=robi
  7. Any comments on this setup...? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=86207; I would have thought that would be alot safer on the left leg. Doesnt the PC /bridal come very close to that position if deploying with any degree of forward speed..? Not dissing.....Ive seen other pics/vids from this jumper on this object and it obviously knows what hes' doing ....just interested to hear some other thoughts. Anyone else out there flying a similar setup?
  8. always always....something new to learn...
  9. hmmmm camera mount on the right leg.. why the right leg...? I would have thought it would be 'safer' on the left.....alot safer...
  10. I just locked the door.....and slept behind it too...just to make sure he couldnt get in (I checked the window too....was too high to climb through...but I nailed it down anyways) Just let someone....anyone know where you are and be on standby for a rescue from Massluis I tried to escape last time in my wingsuit on a pair of rollerblades......he caught me up
  11. Ive never noticed any difference at all apart from the missing weight ....I do it quite regularly . (FF2 Helmet)
  12. Not really is behavoir thats easily achieved and behavoir that should be folllowed if we want 'more' legal BASE events... Theres nothing 'philosophical' in that
  13. I think in an area such as 'public' BASE jumping.... doing absolutely anything that goes against the BASE 'whuffo' rules of the event isnt very smart. It might seem cool , radical, non conformist...in a 'fuck the man' kinda way ..... but the consequences are likely severe... The 'Whuffo's responsible for saying 'yes you can jump it ' just get confirmation of the stereotypical view they prob have of BASE'rs ( young, crazy, reckless etc etc) an probably wont be tripping over themselves to say 'yes' again. We should be acting quite the opposite way on any public BASE events I think....super concious of image portrayed, and scale down the antics/risks/bravado as much as possible....get off flat and stable..fall...land without incident where we are supposed to..then smile to any crowd
  14. I use I Lithium battery pack......lasts way longer than the 'regular' battery pack....and can be switched on /off without disconnecting power supply or cable connection to cam Weighs less too
  15. I thinks thats slightly harsh Macca.... There is a thirst for this knowledge out there for sure , and trying to pick out the gems of 'true' unbiased opinions from those of the experinced die hard brand fans ( and you ...and we...all know who you are) is very difficult. I have very little wingsuit experience but I do agree it is almost impossible to put one wingsuit on a pedastal above all others...it does depend on the pilot, the flights he like sto make and the conditions he makes them in.. Hows about some unbiased, brand promoting discussion on the specific performance characteristics/benefits of each suit as a basis for showing whats the best suit for a variety of situations/flight types. It is getting harder to read thru all the 'brand talk'.. I'd love to demo a Blade, V2, Mach 1, Ghost , Rigor Mortis, ProFly...but thats easier said than done
  16. " I see Ghosts...." "Where...??? " " All Around me....."
  17. 200 jump limit my arse .... would have loved to have come... Any last min slots left??
  18. I'm planning on going to Nethers this weekend......weather looks good. Anyone know what aircraft are turning there this weekend..?
  19. A few recent ones I liked....
  20. OK I get it......but thats not really practical for me ..... the only anchor point is way back from the edge....with any type of setup where the bridal is on/near the anchor point....there is simply too much ground between the anchor point and exit point for it to be 'safe' hence definatley needing a length of static line . So back on topic....what knot would /do you use if you are attaching an open piece of rope/material to the anchor point as a static line ?? Also in the examples supplied....dont you get significant damage to the bridal over time ( in the area between the breakcord attachments ?? ) I could see that part of bridal being pulled taught under loading and sliding about a bit under tension on the anchor point in the microseconds before the breakcord rips.
  21. You lost me here....could you explain that setup again please?
  22. What 'knots' do you use to secure your static lines to the anchor point...when you cant attach your breakcord directly to the anchor point. I usually larkshead a one piece strop to the anchor point rather than using an open ended piece of rope/material The last S/L I did using an open ended piece of climbing rope as the S/L, on collecting the S/L later... I noticed the knots (surgeons and mulitple overhand knots).. had 'slipped' a little....not a lot...but enough to get me thinking. What knots do you use?
  23. Mr Halliday ... you probably are going to be proved right. (BASE Expos's, Parks, legal events/comps etc) But to be fair....the attraction to me would always still be meeting up ...maybe somewhere you shouldnt ,making our own assessments on the : access, jump, landing area, weather conditions.... doing the jump and getting away unhurt and undetected.....with all the emotions you experience with that... bit of fear, bit of uncertainty...the dry mouth and no spit you have after a long climb....the way your heart races looking over the edge of something new the first time. For that , anyone I share the work & experience with is my 'brother' As much as the 'sport' ( I prefer the word discipline myself) might evolve into a big showy, easy access event....I think the hardcore of jumpers will still subscribe to the above.... I could be wrong, please call me on it if I am. As much as we all might say having something completely legit that we can get an elevator to the top would be great....I think deep down we all know we are missing something else, something special, on those kind of jumps
