I am persuing my "A" and am starting to get opinions on gear. I cant afford to get it all at once. Anyone have opinions on what to get first ( helmet, suit ...?) I, of course will pick my instructor's brain, but thought I would ask the question while I was here. Re: the suit... I am 5-11 amd 195 lbs or as the suit manufacturers say "A mature jumper with a lower center of gravity" _________________________________________________ Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man- Sam Walter Foss

I have been smoking for 20 years and have recently quit. I have had one occassionally ( big mistake) but I will be putting the $$$ from the smokes into a gear fund. I am glad I have stopped but still miss those darned things. Good luck to all quitting _________________________________________________ Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man- Sam Walter Foss

When to advise SL to an AFF student?
Tailgate replied to poohbeer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm a newbie also, but here is my $.02 worth. My first tandem instructor took me out sideways and did a couple of 360s which was a little disorienting ( but in retrospect, fun). The second tandem, I was aware going out the door. My first AFF I remember my instructor talking me through the jump on the ride up I think he did this to calm me a bit and give me something to focus on. (He knows I hate the ride up). When it was time to go to the door, I remember everything up to the exit. I don't remember the first 300-500 feet of the freefall ( distance based on my first altitude reading after stabilizing) after that everything was great. They tell me that I arched well off of the tailgate ( jumping from a CASA). Don't know if this will help, just my experience _________________________________________________ Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man- Sam Walter Foss -

First Jump at 40 -- And Bitten by the Bug!!
Tailgate replied to CkrsHrt's topic in Introductions and Greets
Welcome! I did my first tandem a couple of months ago and did my first AFF last weekend. I am 42 ( and originally from WV) and also wish I had found this insanity sooner. _________________________________________________ Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man- Sam Walter Foss -

Actually I just forgot to turn the bold off after WOW but it conveys my feelings well anyway. I have also noticed that my wife and friends are starting to get that glazed over, glass eyed look whenever I start talking about jumping. _________________________________________________ Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man- Sam Walter Foss

I just completed my first AFF level after 2 tandems and all I can say is WOW. Does anyone know of a convenience store I can knock off to pay for a rig?. Seriously, I never knew why anyone would jump but now i don't know why anyone wouldn't. I never liked flying in a small plane, but now that it is gets me to altitude it doesn't seem to bother me as much ( as long as I get to jump instead of land). I am starting this a loittle late in life but now I will search for a fountain of youth so I can make this last a loooooong time _________________________________________________ Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man- Sam Walter Foss
