Anyone going to Langar on Wednesday or Thursday? Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Good post! I am having terrible problems maintaining a heading on my 20 sec delays. One jump I seem to do okay and the next I will be all over the shop! Any good heading seems to be more through luck than judgement. I know that I have a tendency to drop a thigh which will induce a turn and so I conciously raise my thigh to compensate which does help so long as I don't overdo it and start a turn in the opposite direction. The biggest problem I find is the short length of time I have to sort things out and think 'Hey, that's how it should be done, now let's see if I can keep this up' before I have to pull and go through the whole sad routine again (it's taking me far too long to reach Cat. 7). I was considering going for an AFF level 1 jump which would give me ample time to sort out my position (with help from the JMs). Anyway, moaning over. Good news is I jumped the Let for the first time on Friday, Awesome!!! Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Hi BB Why not take a two-way with you (the kind you used on your first few jumps) and get one of the ground crew to talk you in the last few feet to the flare? I know this takes away a little of your independence but it seems to me to be the simplest way for you to make 'graceful' landings until a 'stand alone' (no pun intended) gadget comes along. Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

When you turn up at the DZ and find that your jumpship is a Lancaster Bomber being flown by a Turkish Wall-Climbing Goat specially trained to fly vintage aircraft well in excess of their design specifications. Oh, dear, my pills, my pills, SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TAKE MY PILLS AWAY!!! Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Hmmm...this reminds me of the time I woke up to find Felicity Kendall standing over me with a rucksack full of stolen shell suits. Not likely to happen over here in old Blighty but in the US of A where the constitution allows any T,D or H to amass a small, personal arsenal, has anyone ever been shot at while under canopy? Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Long story but bear with me. I am seriously addicted to skydiving and of course, blather on about it ad nausium to everyone I know. Anyways, I have been trying to get my brother (who, incidentally is really into Motorcycles and jet skis and flying etc) to come over to Langar to see for himself what it's all about and maybe try a tandem jump himself but all I get is "Well, I work long hours and don't get home much and when I do get home I have lots of things to do like laying the patio and fixing doors and changing light bulbs and going shopping and blah, blah, whinge, whinge..." In other words any excuse not to come over. Now, I see this as a bit childish and pouting because I actually got to do skydiving before he did and in his books that's a bit of a 'no-no' (yah, boo!!) Anyways, I had planned to go to Langar on Tuesday pm after work and stay over till Thursday pm. But my brother has asked me to take him and his girlfriend (who, I think has the hots for me which doesn't help much) to the airport on Wednesday morning so they can fly to NY. The question is do I take them to the airport when I could be jumping or do I say "F*** You bro. Find your own way" and piss off up to Langar? Second question - Do I *really* need an answer to the first question? Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Are you sure it's 1462 miles and not 1463. Did you measure it? Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Why not buy them a tandem jump each for a special 'treat'. They sure as hell won't stop you after that. Maybe it'll be you trying to stop *them*!! Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Hey Skreamer, Hmmm, can't think who that might be. I don't know if we have met. My recent visits have been pretty spurious and ill timed as quite often I seem to be the only person there (apart from the staff!!) I drive a metallic brown Fiat Brava and wear a red, yellow, blue and black Symbi. and a red Gath with a picture of Jake from the Tweenies on it (is that guy cool or what!?) If ya see me there (I'll be the one desperatly trying to look like he knows what he's supposed to be doing, but failing dismally) give me a kick and I'll buy you a beer!! Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Hey Skreamer, Go on, dig the dirt. Which of the Tandem Masters was it. Initials will suffice. (My reckoning it was either DM or CMc) ;-) Wish I'd been there. Went over on Thursday PM after work...nothing doing. Stayed over...still nothing. Bloody English weather, bloody, bloody, bloody...bitch, bitch, bitch....Aaaaaarghhh!!!! Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Yes folks, you read it here first. There's *another* caravan at Langar....It's my 4-berth that I've been waiting an eternity for the ground to dry out before dragging it up and siting. Now I can walk the few yards to the club and stagger the few yards back and not have to worry about driving home. Aaaah, life is sweet and just gets sweeter! Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

I started jumping in June 2000 on the RAPS course and have done 36 jumps (taking into account a 6 month lay-off) so far. Currently I am doing 20 second delays trying to reach Cat.7 but I am having real problems stopping involuntary turns depite putting into practice everything told to me by my instructors. I really think now, in hindsight, that an AFF course would have prevented any of the problems I am having before they even started. Having your instructors by your side in freefall correcting your body position is FAR more convenient that having them on the ground and then trying to remember what they told you, especially when you have far less time in freefall to actually correct your body position. As for cost, personally speaking, what it is costing me now in repeat jumps will probably match anything I would have paid for the full AFF course. Having said that, there is nothing (apart from funds) to prevent me from converting to AFF and having those guys up there with me. At the end of the day though. Whilst my wallet can stand the pressure I can stand the repeat jumps (and the landings :-) and all I want to do is enjoy myself and that's what I get from skydiving, so... Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

To all you Langar jumpers. Just a quickie to say that the Let flew back in today albeit a month late. It was a welcome sight all the same and something of a surprise from what I could tell. Hey Skreamer, It was at Langar but it was the Monday after the Saturday when everybody seemed to crossing the beer line. I was there too on Saturday but not on any of Chuckles loads. I saw that Student end up nearly on the Harby road. Wow, grounded after your first jump! That sucks! Anyways, I only got to jump twice 'cos of a shortage of rigs and packers, and this after a six month break. I don't think I did too badly. I blamed my landing on the 210 I jumped. It came in faster than the 280 I used previously (I'm sticking to this excuse so don't try and sway me, Mike) Where's everything gone from Langar? No planes, no packers... Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Got away with it as there were only a dozen or so people at the DZ and I had to leave before the bar opened ;-) Next time.....NOT!! Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Well, I don't know!! I got bawled at today for crossing the 'beer line'. CCI says 'If you land there again you and me are going to fall out!'. Apparently I'd crossed an 'imaginary' line that I have passed before on at least 2 occasions and nobody had said a word. I wasn't exactly close to any aircraft or fuel bowsers either. I was gobsmacked. Nobody told me about the 'beer line' although I'd heard about it I thought it was the queue for the bar :-) Anyway, I didn't care much. It was my third jump after a six month break, I was on a smaller canopy and I went from cat 5 to cat 6 as well so.....blah!! Whooooohooooo!!! Hahahaha!!!

Hey Hellian, Langar generally doesn't have a problem with other air traffic other than the odd errant microlight and occasional military traffic (which gives a wide berth). However, one of the instructors there said that he was at 2000' under canopy over the DZ when two Tornados passed directly below him. Whoooaahhh!!!
