Seriously: Nowhere. Just wanted to learn something. BIGUN provided an excellent reference site. Another, is www.biblegateway.com. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

That's the kind of conversation I was looking for. I sometimes use the "Oh yeah, the Bible also says I can sell my daughters into slavery," argument. I don't have the Bible knowledge to verify the validity of that, so I thought I would bring it up here and see what happens. OK, I'll play along. Where do you want to go? Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

It appears to be an ancient Jewish custom discussed in Exodus 21. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

You seem tense. I guess your military service was not a pleasant time and you did not make close friends in your unit. At any rate, thank you for your service. I don't suppose I'll be seeing you at veteran organizations or gatherings. Also, you, and others as I have noted, missed the point of the OP at the start. I've yet to see any type of demon worship at any drop zone,.... Demonic influence is not the same as demon worship. Reference: Ephesians 2 1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But, as I said above that was not the theme of the OP. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. The word hate has become such a trite, hackneyed political term that I don't react to it much. When us vets get together we do not talk about who hates us or why. We do not talk much about the pros and cons of the current war. Although, most agree we want it to end ASAP. What we mostly discuss is the sad state of our governmental leadership at the national level. We share our dissatisfaction at the spread of socialism or progressivism in our American society. We speak with sadness that young people are either patriotic or anti-American. We complain about the citizens of other countries who bitch about the U.S.A and enjoy their freedom because of our power in force during WWII. Jumper hater, no, I'm not guilty. I do, however, strongly oppose the demonic influence in our sport even though it is Quixotic battle. BTW, since no one has accurately picked on the theme of my OP, it is: 1 John 4 Testing the Spirits 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. God Is Love 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. pure ignorant bravado. Individuals serve for individual reasons, but to the government(s) they serve they are little more than bullets in a gun. This is true no matter what flag is on their arm. For you, the key words of his post are, "If you've never served you will never know." There is a strong bond among military veterans. That bond used to exist between sport parachutists. However, that closeness disappeared many, many years ago. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Well, many do, but certainly not all. The problem with such a simplistic statement is that your basic premises are flawed. On a macro level, not all American military activity truly advances the cause of freedom, even if it's advertised or rationalized as such. On an individual level, some people enter the military for personal reasons having little or nothing to do with personal patriotism. I think that you and billvon are over thinking in your responses. It is not that deep or complicated. As for the foreigners, well, they are not patriotic Americans. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. That may very well be part of the big picture. As is the case in most if not all wars. What does Afghanistan offer, opium? However, I believe that any American who enters military service does so for the cause of freedom. They deserve respect for their sacrifice. Here is another possibility. Might take some exegetical mastery to transform it into a greeting for a gift. Revelation 12:13-15 (New American Standard Bible) 13And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child. 14But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. 15And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. A strange symbiotic relationship, Pfc Paul Cazzupe died fighting for freedom which allows the Westboro Baptist Church to condemn his sacrifice. Start with the Gospel of John, then Matthew, Mark and Luke. After that read Romans. Okay, so there is a book about God. Good for him, but I bet there are books about Santa, too. So, except your freaking fables book that I don't give a crap about, is there a difference? And please, can you give me your own opinion? Do you even have one? I am not willing to invest more in YOUR salvation than you are willing to invest. Do your homework. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. I often wonder about this. Do Christians honestly believe that 'eternity' where their so-called spirit will go, holds anything physical at all? You'll have no brain (so no thought or memory), no eyes... What will you be exactly...Currently I'm picturing jellyfish, lots of jellyfish. But seriously, the whole spirit in heaven thing makes no sense. I mean, sure you can claim it's a mystery of God and one cannot understand the spirit. But there is no way you're going to get to heaven and someone is going to say "here's your new body, I fitted you some custom new eyes ROCK ON!" And honestly, according to the bible, heaven sounds like a very boring and materialistic place. Lots of gold and jewels... And praising the lord through song every day for eternity. Sounds more like hell to me. Romans 8:11 The spirit of man is united with the Spirit of God and the soul continues for eternity in a glorified body, as Christ is, and remains in fellowship with Him forever. He is the shepherd and we are the sheep of His pasture. I'll be absent for a period. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. So trite and hackneyed. You are over one year late with that childish analogy. I think you will find it two or three times in this thread alone. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

Who cares? By that I mean, there is a high probability that I will meet Chambers at some point in eternity. Based on the Wikipedia bio, I am not likely to meet Russell. He apparently died in the same misery as he lived his life, constantly searching and never finding. According to Isaiah 66:21-24, I may see him but not meet him. It almost seems as though Oswald Chambers is following this thread. July 30th. THE DISCIPLINE OF DISILLUSIONMENT "Jesus did not commit Himself unto them...for He knew what was in man.” John ii. 24-25. Disillusionment means that there are no more false judgments in life. To be undeceived by disillusionment may leave us cynical and unkindly severe in our judgment of others, but the disillusionment which comes from God brings us to the place where we see men and women as they really are, and yet there is no cynicism, we have no stinging, bitter things to say. Many of the cruel things in life spring from the fact that we suffer from illusions. We are not true to one another as facts; we are true only to our ideas of one another. Everything is either delightful and fine, or mean and dastardly, according to our idea. The refusal to be disillusioned is the cause of much of the suffering in human life. It works in this way—if we love a human being and do not love God, we demand of him every perfection and every rectitude, and when we do not get it we become cruel and vindictive; we are demanding of a human being that which he or she cannot give. There is only one Being Who can satisfy the last aching abyss of the human heart, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. Why Our Lord is apparently so severe regarding every human relationship is because He knows that every relationship not based on loyalty to Himself will end in disaster. Our Lord trusted no man, yet He was never suspicious, never bitter. Our Lord's confidence in God and in what His grace could do for any man, was so perfect that He despaired of no one. If our trust is placed in human beings, we shall end in despairing of everyone. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Have you noticed, this thread is no longer about you and the confusion and despair that you feel? My original post was meant to shock you. I knew what the discussion would turn into and I wanted to rock your mental paradigm. Christians, especially those ordained in the ministry, are not supposed to say the things I did, and often do. You stated that you believed you were an evangelical Christian. That means you accepted Christ as deity, as man, as propitiation for your sin and, His resurrection. That cannot be undone. You have been sealed unto the day of your redemption. God's Word is true and can be tested. You are in the doldrums now. This is a common phenomena for those who seek out a righteous life. Seek and experiment and do whatever you think will give you your answers. In the end you will find Jesus waiting for you, with all forgiveness and total love. It is said that the age of 30 to 50 is the age of enlightenment. You are entering that age. I believe, yes believe in my heart, that you will experience God's agape love and truth before your are 40. God bless you brother. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

From Oswald Chambers this AM, interesting. July 28th. AFTER OBEDIENCE—WHAT? "And straightway He constrained His disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side....” Mark vi. 45-52. We are apt to imagine that if Jesus Christ constrains us, and we obey Him, He will lead us to great success. We must never put our dreams of success as God's purpose for us; His purpose may be exactly the opposite. We have an idea that God is leading us to a particular end, a desired goal; He is not. The question of getting to a particular end is a mere incident. What we call the process, God calls the end. What is my dream of God's purpose? His purpose is that I depend on Him and on His power now. If I can stay in the middle of the turmoil calm and unperplexed, that is the end of the purpose of God. God is not working towards a particular finish; His end is the process—that I see Him walking on the waves, no shore in sight, no success, no goal, just the absolute certainty that it is all right because I see Him walking on the sea. It is the process, not the end, which is glorifying to God. God's training is for now, not presently. His purpose is for this minute, not for something in the future. We have nothing to do with the afterwards of obedience; we get wrong when we think of the afterwards. What men call training and preparation, God calls the end. God's end is to enable me to see that He can walk on the chaos of my life just now. If we have a further end in view, we do not pay sufficient attention to the immediate present: if we realize that obedience is the end, then each moment as it comes is precious. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
