  1. ...and used motor oil can fertilize your lawn. Elvisio "Cornelius" Rodriguez
  2. I remember some of the footage from CNN from the Enron nightmare and it showed people going to work who obviously knew it was their last day. One guy was walking in wheeling a keg on a dolly with a stack of plastic cups. That's what you should do. Skip the bar and bring the bar to your (now former) workplace. What are they going to do, fire you? Elvisio "one hell of a last day" Rodriguez
  3. Magic in my Pants. Didn't even plan it. Elvisio "yeah, baby" Rodriguez
  4. ...and this differs from every other weekend on your little island... how? Elvisio "dammit, thought of something wittier right after pressing send" Rodriguez
  5. ... sorry, that's my fault. I'm working all weekend at the hospital so I cranked up the weather machine. If I can't jump then neither can anyone else! MWUAHAHAHA! Elvisio "living the dream, right" Rodriguez

But dangit, I'm saying that it IS! Based on what the question says, it is 90! Either I'm reading it to simply or something else. Elvisio "none of the above" Rodriguez
  7. I agree that they're nice. Flopping down into the bed or the couch in the middle of the day is such sweet surrender. But then, no matter how much or little I sleep, I'm sleepy and groggy for the rest of the day.

    riddle

I dig your point, but I don't think that's what the riddle is asking, at least how I'm reading it. You are right in that you wouldn't ever complete the two laps in two minutes, but the question isn't asking that. It wants to know what speed you'd have to go to have an average speed of 60 mph. So as I was mentioning above, assuming you could instantly speed up to 90mph at the start of the second lap, you'd have an average speed for the two laps of 60mph. Right? Average of two numbers = (first number + second number)/2. Ergo: 60 = (30+x)/2 2x60 = (30+x)/2 x2 (multiply both sides by two) 120 = 30 + x then 120 -30 = 30 + x -30 (subtract 30 from both sides) so x = 90 You're right that it'd take 45 seconds to do the second lap, which added to the two minutes you took to do the first lap would be 2:45. Yes, you could never do the second lap fast enough to average one minute per lap once you've taken two minutes to do the first lap (unless you could instantly teleport yourself or something cool like that) but that's not what the question is asking. With a second lap of 90mph the AVERAGE of the two lap speeds WOULD be 60. Comes down to the whole add/subtract before you multiply/divide thingy. Or is it the other way around? At least that's my take on it. Elvisio "always called to do the problem at the board immediatly after fantasizing about the hot chick in class" Rodriguez

Can we ASSYOUME the car can instantaneously speed up to the new speed? Elvisio "makes it MUCH easier" Rodriguez
  10. Bullshit. It's a cover-up. It's a conspiracy. It's completely improbable that this happened "by accident." (grin, snicker) The government MEANT for this to happen. There's no way this could have happened without Uncle Sam having a major hand in it. The intention is to destabilize the economy, to create fear in the American populace, and energize the American war machine for years to come. (chortle, snuff) It's a conspiracy, I say! Where's Labrys when we need him? Elvisio "if so, where's the wreckage?" Rodriguez
  11. Man, my feathers are still ruffled over this one. Dude should not have been picking up the Cup. I haven't pulled Hysteria from my "top ten best albums ever". ...but I almost did. Elvisio "still cranky" Rodriguez
  12. I feel like I've been gone long enough that my liver could finally handle another ten day onslaught. I'd definitely be there. Elvisio "beer, check. advil, check. rig, check." Rodriguez
  13. Locals might tell you differently, but I've always thought the Metro was the BOMB. It goes everywhere and is really easy to use. Big heads up: if you're out at night, be aware that the Metro stops running at midnight (IIRC). Sucks to be stuck far from home late at night. Elvisio "would love to live by a Metro stop" Rodriguez
  14. Or, perhaps in the sake of fairness, we could implement a leg custody order where each of you had the leg in question 50% of the time. You could discuss longer engagements for vacations, and you would split the holidays. You would split the costs of keeping that leg in pant and shoe (both singular). Don't even get me started about the logistics of dividing up the cost of the leg's education... Elvisio "somehow feel dirty" Rodriguez
  15. Pfft... you weenies bitching about an all-tie-dye rig. See the attached pic of yours truly. Still wear it all with pride! Some things never go out of style! Elvisio "where does the rig end and the suit begin?" Rodriguez
  16. Yep, I was actually thinking about him today, not in regards to the anniversary but just thinkin' 'bout stuff on the way home from the DZ. He was a good one... Elvisio "losing too many friends lately" Rodriguez
  17. Okay, this had me FURIOUS. Big fucking rant: Nevermind the fact that he knows so little about hockey that he doesn't even know what end of the Cup is up. Exactly what the FUCK is he doing picking up the Cup at all? He has NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER TO HOIST LORD STANLEY'S CUP. He's a badass rocker. But he has not earned the right to pick up that trophy. You haven't. I haven't. Very few have. still Okay, rant over. Elvisio "not feeling better" Rodriguez
  18. GODDAMNIT I'm whipped. I'm watching that video and all I'm thinkin' is "wow, that's a pretty nice house in the background." Elvisio "sick of renting"Rodriguez
  19. "Is is only once we have lost everything, that we can do anything." Ah, Fight Club. Feeling a little Bohemian this evening? Elvisio "bumming 'bout not bumming" Rodriguez
  20. Not my favorite song, but if we're talking about the song that most makes me feel like me: Southern Cross - CSNY It's a little mellow, a little soulful. It's a song about a guy who hasn't played his hand in life as well as he could have, but still manages to find the world to be a place of wonderful beauty. Elvisio "skydiving is her name" Rodriguez
  21. In a sense, you're right, an AED would not be useful at all for our typical "buddy who femurs in" or a worse such skydiving related injury. But with regards to our tandem and student operations, think about what we do: we take people of all ages, body types, and a variety of medical conditions on what is quite possibly the most exciting experience of their life. A first skydive is going to push heart rates and blood pressures to unusually high levels for most of our students. We ask these same students to fill out a waiver and tell us about all their medical conditions, but how often are we lied to? How often do we KNOW about the patient with a past heart history or hypertension, yet still choose to jump with them because we or they are sure "they'll be alright?" Also consider that skydivers are human beings too, and that heart disease is the leading killer of women and one of the leading killers of men. So, if a heart attack is going to happen, and we spend 2/7 of our week at the DZ, then statistically speaking it's only a matter of time before one of us has a coronary at the DZ. I'm really surprised we aren't seeing more "chest pain" and "cardiac event" EMS responses to DZ's. That scares me even more, from the "it's only a matter of time" point of view. It just means time is running out. Elvisio "30 to 2" Rodriguez
  22. Totally with you on that one, except in addition to the price I'm worried about the upkeep. If somebody doesn't stay on top of it, and keep shelling out the bucks for the preventative maintenance, then it's useless. We'll see... Elvisio "clear the patient" Rodriguez
  23. The idea of exactly what was necessary in a DZ medical kit was a topic of past (and future) discussion after an incident at my DZ. We'll all get our heads together and restock our gear bag, but as a medic and RN my gut feeling in the matter is K.I.S.S. We need the gloves and masks (and maybe a BVM)necessary to safely administer CPR; We need some gauze, wraps, and tape to control life-threatening bleeds; We need a small supply of splints or SAM splints (good for a kit) for splinting injured limbs; I would LOVE to see an AED at the DZ although it probably won't happen because of $$$; ...and that's about it, IMO. All of this should EASILY fit in a very small duffel bag, or "tick bag" to use the vernacular. DZ's don't need IV supplies, for all the reasons mentioned above; DZ's don't need immobilization gear; the EMT's will bring their own, and will DEFINITELY want to immobilize the patient themselves; DZ's don't need oxygen, it's another "Rx only" supply that would be difficult to maintain even if you could legally get it. DZ regulars who want to "do good" when a friend gets hurt don't need to know how to start IV's or administer heavy duty medications. Instead, they should get CPR certified (definitely), get basic First Aid (if you want to), and learn the few hotpoints that come with managing someone who may have head/spinal injury (i.e. anyone who has been in a skydiving accident), such as maintaining c-spine stability, turning in unison, and maintaining a patent airway. Elvisio "dazit" Rodriguez
  24. Dude. $200 per ticket. The band knows three guitar chords... That's like $70 per chord! Forgetaboutit... Elvisio "subsidize my wingsuit instead" Rodriguez
  25. IMHO, if you really don't need the money for anything else, then you're better off paying off what you can as soon as you can. If you choose to save up until you have the full amount, you'll only be earning the interest rate of your savings account as it sits in the bank, but your debt will be accruing interest at whatever rate your loan is at. Compare the two rates: without a doubt, your debt will increase faster than the rate you're earning interest in your savings acct. EDIT: Crapspackle. I didn't really READ your question. As to whether to pay off each month or do it weekly, it depends on how your loan institution compounds interest. If they do it continuously (damn, I hope not) or weekly (still hope not) then it behooves you to pay off weekly. If they only do it monthly, then once a month will be enough, just try to get your payment in before the date they compound the interest.
