  1. The thing is... you want to present your feet to the wind if you want the relative to allow you to sitfly properly out the door instead of front or back flying. I learned to fly my back down the hill first, but have since then learned to present myself to the relative. Try it... On a 2 way have the front float exit in a way where their back is facing the ceiling and the rear exit has their back facing the floor... difficult at first... but the over under exit is awesome and you feel a real sense of accomplishment. Have fun! Chaps Carpe diem
  2. Please, someone... respond if you have any info. on flying the 109. It's between the 105 and 109 right now... and if I don't hear any reasons not to but the 109 then I'm all for the smaller camera! Thanx, Chaps Carpe diem
  3. right on... so close! See ya there! Chris Carpe diem
  4. 5500 so I've got a heads up on figuring out where everybody is before burning out of there 3500 for quit tracking and get ready to pull 2000 for just about time to MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN I pretty much freefly all the time and I used to set my dytter for the exact time of breakoff, but now I enjoy hearing my audible early so I can begin to shape the end of the dive the way I want. 5. My third jump yesterday was a 7 way hybrid Good times! Chaps Carpe diem
  6. I went ahead and got the mirage. No complaints. The infinity really is a nice rig as well... Chaps Carpe diem
  7. Nice man! I did the same thing with my first rig... new g3 with all the options! I've really only got it dirty once... but she looks great still! You're really gonna enjoy this! Good for you... Chaps Carpe diem
  8. I've been jumping a safire 2 190 and I'm coming up on 200 jumps. I also weigh about 190 pounds. I'm learning so many things on this canopy and... most importantly... I have now made a mistake on this canopy. My mistake left two ditches in the ground and I was very lucky to walk away. If I had been under that Katana I ABSOLUTELY would not have walked away. I'm not trying to sound too arrogant here, but I've been on a real aggressive learning curve... and handling it well. This mistake was the strongest reality check I've ever had. I don't care who you are or how good you're doing so far. Until you have alot more jumps you don't even realise how much more you have to learn. I'm just nowbecoming aware of my lack of awareness! Stay off that canopy. Chaps This better not be a troll! I hate highlighting my mistakes! Carpe diem
  9. I racked up 50+ jumps on student gear then bought a new mirage. I got the smallest container possible for the largest main I wanted. The thing is... it's really tough to pack new zp into a 'tight fit'. If you can pack it though... you can look forward to two downsizes in the same container... and that's alot of jumping! Chaps Carpe diem
  10. Yeah... all the time... In fact, I have all the movies you listed! I think I'll pop in the clouds edge right now... "I wanna do big way (pow...pow)" Seriously though... I believe that watching these vids is great for your flying. Even if your just watching your mind is taking alot of notes, even if we don't realize that. Everybody be safe, chaps Carpe diem
  11. Check your altimeter often as you learn... this will help for a couple of reasons... first: you have to get used to the faster speeds. Your clock is set for a much slower fall rate. second: eventually, you'll want to be independent in arm movement. checking your altimeter will teach your body to handle the 'new' position of your arms. Have fun, get coaching, and the # 1 trick BREATHE!!! chaps Carpe diem
  12. Glad to hear everything went ok! I owe roger @ SSM a bottle as well for this las weekend. See ya next time! Chaps Carpe diem
  13. Well, I don't have a ton of experience... but I've become a stable sitflyer by doing alot of ground work with friends. You can use walls to lean on and make sure your torso is straight. Keep your legs realy wide and just let the muscle memory sink in. One thing I did for a while was while driving remember to sit with correct posture. You'll notice how akward it feels to sit with good posture (head squarely on shoulders, torso straight... etc.) but you're sitting correctly at that point. Oh, yeah... number one thing at first... JUST KEEP THOSE FEET DOWN. I MEANT IT... JUST KEEP THEM THERE AND USE THAT STRAIGHT TORSO YOU DROVE TO THE DZ WITH!. So much fun! Chaps Carpe diem
  14. Oh man... thank you so much... I've been waiting to hear someone else has done this too. Did you chop b/c of it? Chaps Carpe diem
  15. That's interesting. I just don't want to let myself believe that the twist was in there when I layed the canopy down. Maybe I did somehow cause it by moving the bag... but then wouldn't the twist have to be on both sides? Chaps Carpe diem
  16. Right on man... I wasn't trying to flame you. I just had an accident and this seemed like the place to put it. I was hoping to get feed back from others or to let others know that it happened to take from it what they will... which is probably that I'm an idiot for packing a step through. You've shown me I shouldn't have posted here. Maybe one of the moderators could move it for us. Chaps Carpe diem
  17. I'm sorry... I should have been more precise when I explained the mal... yeah... it was a 'step through' on the left side but not the right. The same side that had the line over had a twist in the riser from my packing mistake. Make it happen: Incidents include: malfunctions, cutaways, wraps, collisions, crash landings etc. While I appreciate your critical nature, maybe you should read the rules before asking questions. Thanx everybody... Chaps Carpe diem
  18. I had a great 3 way freefly jump yesterday. Tracked off at 5 and dumped around 3.4k. When I looked up I saw a line over the left side of my canopy and, much to my embarassment, a twist in my left riser. As soon as I saw this I knew I had packed this mal. I cut it @ 2k and whipped out the reserve sitting comfortably at about 1.5k. Kept both handles and followed the freebag down for an uneventful landing. My main was recovered shortly after. Never in a million years did I think I could do something that freaking stupid... but there it is. I'm positive I packed that twist into my canopy and for the life of me I can't figure out how I let that happen. I flake the canopy the same way every time. How could I flake this thing with a twist and not notice?? Chaps Carpe diem
  19. Hey man... I bought a brand new g3 sized M-4 this year. It's made for a 170... but if you know how to pack right... you can get a 190 in there. I bought this size since I knew I'd be ready to move on from the 190, I'll be very happy and on a good learning curve with the 170 for quite awhile... and then later I can even put in a 150 when I'm ready. So, yes... you can get a 190 in containers made to 'best fit' a 170. Disclaimer: You're going to need a rigger to look over how tight of a fit you've got. If it's too tight it could lead to nasty mals (pc in tow) and also in the event of two canopies out you will probably have two different size canopies to deal with (although alot of research needs to be done here to conclusively know the repercussions). Also, I've heard that you run the possibility of basically busting out seems in your main container if it's packed too tightly. Finally, and trust me on this!, it's really freaking difficult to bag brand new zp into a bag that it's too large for. I just can't stress enough how much determination it took to learn to pack this thing right! No probs. now though. Good luck! Chaps Edited to add: Oh yeah... I also wanted to let you know that if you go with the mirage you won't be sorry... when you put this rig on you'll know what comfort and security feel like. Carpe diem
  20. What exactly do we mean on these forums when we say someone is a troll... or watch out for the trolls? Just curious... Chaps Carpe diem
