On my S3 pulling at 90 degrees does nothing at all, I have to pull down (towards my feet) for a bit before I can pull out. It's worth not doing any ws base before you are comfortable with that! My heading performance is not great with the leg pouch because I'm still not quite symmetrical during the pull. Need more practice that's all. My 36" zp pc fits fine but I'm very careful to make it long and roll it up tight in a “dill-do” stylee (correct technical term for rolled pilot chute). Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Did your mother never warn you that googling yourself will turn you blind? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Watch some decent trackers and compare them to crap ones - it is most definitely a discipline (an underdeveloped one) and an awesome skill worth honing! Tracking and swooping are keeping me skydiving. Gus Edited because I got all excited and forgot how to spell. OutpatientsOnline.com

I'd agree with Tree, you're worrying unnecessarily. The only time you need to start modding your canopy to reduce drag is when your skills are so good that you're exhausting all posibilities to gain that extra few percent of performance. And there are very few people in the world who fall in to that category. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

We noticed the same thing at the ITW this weekend, specifically with water bottles. One just left in plain sight and one 'hidden' behind a rock. It sucks and it's hugely disrespectful. Al kindly brought them down. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Sounds good. Got a text fom Ron saying he did 2 today but could have done 3. Last forecast I saw looked alright. Uh-oh! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I think most CCIs are sensible enough to defer judgement to those with more expertise. CCIs cautious attitudes towards wingsuits stems from a lack of experience and that's totally understandable and right. I think if a wingsuit instructor wanted to teach someone and they could justify to the CCI how it was safe then most CCIs will be reasonable about it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Hi Alan, IMHO currency is way more important than simple jump numbers. If you were current, did a couple of dedicated tracking jumps with a wingsuit instructor, demonstrated good ground/air awareness and ability to fly a pattern then I think alot of instructors would be happy to put you in a Classic or Prodigy. In the UK I mean. Gus (PFI) OutpatientsOnline.com

Difference from a 280 down to a 170?
gus replied to artistcalledian's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi Ian, I don't think we've met but I'm a Langar jumper as well. What ever size canopy you end up jumping be sure to take up that offer of doing the downsize gradually, I'm pretty sure Langar has some 220s and maybe even a Sabre 190? I like Darren's advice of printing off this thread and having a good chat with your instructor and some of the others too - there's a whole wealth of experience at our dz! And your instructor / dealer is definitely one of the good guys whose opinion you can trust but if in doubt, be conservative. Good luck dude, see you at the dz. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com -
Jakee, there was a good article in the mag a while back about tracking dives and body positions, you can read it here. Don't be afraid to tip head low! You can counter it somewhat by being agressive and really pushing down with your feet but that's where you will find the smoking horizontal speeds. What you really want is to brief the chasing trackers to get ahead of you so you can tip your head right back and still see everyone. Like Tim said, head position is critical. In small groups of experienced trackers we normally get out first, track off at 45 degrees and by pull time we have significantly more seperation than the other groups. With big groups or if you're less confident with the heading just get out last, track up the jump run (ie follow the plane), pull high to make sure you get back and enjoy the extra time under canopy

...and my first student as a PFI. Ric's done a lot of tracking jumps and I think it really showed - he rocked the house! Good exits, nice flat body position, tidy pattern and generally very heads-up jumps. Nice work dude

New Parachute Material to be Displayed
gus replied to tombuch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Some technical data on "Cuben Fiber" materials here. Does someone know how these compare with conventional canopy nylon? Something about the 7 year shelf life rings a bell, have we heard about this before? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com -
I've never pressed the point with anyone so I don't know. But I would guess that for a lot of people it's a knee-jerk "I'm not going to go in so I'm not going to discuss it" type thing. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Nice doc J, I'm a recent convert to the head low position and it rocks! Gus ps Have attached bmp converted to jpg OutpatientsOnline.com

Not everyone wants to discuss it. I will pretty much always ask new jumping buddies if they want to give me an emergency contact number and the majority don't. I don't see it as particularly important anyway, knowing exactly where you are (so you can direct emergency services) is the important thing. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Hi Gary, If we're talking about who I think we are then she's very welcome to try my Crossfire2 99, I really don't think the light loading will create any actual safety issues. Maybe jump it with some lead to simulate the loading of a slightly smaller one? Plus, if she got a smaller one, I could borrow it! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Hi Mike, Don't be tempted into thinking that owning a BASE rig and knowing a few objects is enough to start jumping, that's my advice. I know your job makes it difficult but get yourself on a recognised first jump course and get some properly qualified teaching. And find someone willing to help you out when you get back. It's worth it. I won't make it to the dz this weekend but should be around soon enough if you want to chat. Or you can send me a pm. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
