  1. Nigel I got a brand new stroboframe off eBay for about £35 inc shipping from the states. No drama. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. I don't think the D50 has a cable release does it? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. You can always spot static line students by their distinctive red overalls, this just goes to show how progressive Langar's training is. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. I've been playing with my new 350D on the ground using a bog standard 512 MB Sandisk card that doesn't even say how fast it is but it'll happily shoot off 20+ pics at about 2.5 fps before it starts to slow down. If I go and spend loads of money on one of the new 80X cards will I notice any real difference? I found this thread from a couple of years ago comparing the performance of the 300D/Digital Rebel with different compact flash cards and the conclusion seemed to be that the camera was the limiting factor, not the card. 5. I haven't jumped it yet but I just got my new 350D and I'm well impressed with how responsive it is. To my uneducated self it feels just like a film camera. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. I just got the following email putting the release date back to the 20th. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. 3:1 really would be outstanding and VERY hard work. Unless you only have 3 jumps! Gus (37 in 170 = 5:1) OutpatientsOnline.com
  8. Well done mate, they are some impressive numbers. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Flight Plan

One of the beauties of wingsuit flying is that you don't have to be in any hurry to get out of the plane, because you have the range to make it back from quite far away. So stick you head out the door and look at the ground, imagine the line that the plane is running in on - that's the first leg of your flight plan. Then imagine that line doing a 90 and then 90 again back towards the dz - now go fly it! When you got that 2nd pass you could have either just waited in the plane for a bit until you were deep like you were expecting, or you could have got out and flown straight up the line of flight for longer. See attached pic. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  10. Yeah, that confused me when I got my Wings. I thought they must have sewed it wrong at first! Fido's right, or at least I did the same thing. Route the shock cord through the tunnels, no problems. I don't know why it's like that though. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. Most definitely yes! BASE jumpers are obsessed with BASE, who's not going to buy it?! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  12. I make that about 2:1? That would be very impressive, even with a tracking suit. Bring it on! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Still very much missed. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  14. Ah ok, I'm with you now. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  15. I disagree. In my limited experience noobs: - Do not appreciate their horizontal range and the importance of flying a pattern. - Do not plan the jump unless you make them! - Do not appreciate the dangers of aircraft tail wings. - Do not realise you can fly through your aad activation altitude. ...and a whole load of other things - unless you tell them. The simplicity of the Prodigy and Access is brilliant but alot of the inherent dangers remain and that's where a bit of guidance comes in. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  16. Try and get some of your landings videod and have your instructor watch them with you, it can be a massive help. It should also be pretty obvious from the vid whether your flare technique is appropriate for that canopy. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  17. Working for me. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  18. Check out this bad mofo! Not my pic but the subject sure is purdy. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. That sucks for your mate . Parhaps rather than "NEVER let the toggles up if you flare high" the lesson should be "Listen to your instructors". Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  20. Hey Jaap, I used to live in Guildford. There are some jumpers up towards Reading, down towards Portsmouth and of course plenty in London but I never met anyone else around Guildford. Nor did I ever find much to jump locally but there is one thing, pm me if you like. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  21. Isn't it sad that a friend can't help a friend out without worrying about the fucking legal consequences . Make the damn tools. Do a good job. Let your friend decide whether to use them. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  22. Hi James, You have a couple of wingsuit instructors at Langar (Craig Poxon and myself) and a handful of experienced birdy people, feel free to grab someone and pick their brains for a bit. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  23. Hi Steve, I'm a Langar AFF graduate, I haven't been to Perris but I have been to Eloy. If you think that Langar will be your home dropzone then doing your AFF there will be to your advantage. Completing AFF marks the beginning of your learning, not the end, and having consistency in your instruction and having access to instructors that know you throughout your skydiving career is a good thing. If you like the idea of cheaper AFF / better weather / having a holiday then you could consider going to Spain with Phil Curtis. He takes students out there and he's a good guy. And since he's at Langar alot he'll make sure you're looked after. Maybe it's maybe a good compromise. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  24. One of my favourite bits of rockclimbing.com is the photos section, specificially the top photos page, which shows you the top ranked photos from the last month. And there are some very good quality photos in there. I know we have a similar thing here but if we had exactly the same funcitonality (top ranked photos from the last month, rate photos, add comments) I think it would make a huge difference. It's one of the things which keeps me going back to rc.com, when I very rarely look at the photos section here. Take a look at the Post your best shot thread, there are people taking fantasic pictures out there who are willing to share them. Let's make it easier. Gus ps Oh and frame grabs from video don't count! OutpatientsOnline.com
  25. Operator: Are you visible from the freeway? JA: The towers are but it's getting dark. Any sympathy I felt for this guy quickly evaporated. And I know what it's like to hit a wire. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
