Since when did gooners like you have cool gadgets like PC110s ??? Gus

.....weather! So, as far as I can make out: The BBC forecast is too pesimistic Teletext.co.uk is too optimistic Onlineweather.com is about right Theyr.com is the best but only a day or two in advance And Weather.com just sucks, it never changes! Someone must be hiding some more decent sites. Come on people, share with the group - you'll feel better about yourself. It would greatly improve the quality of my workday daydreaming if I have a better idea of what the weather's going to be doing over the weekend . Gus

Yeah, yeah, rub it in. Some of us aren't going anywhere remember. I hope it rains. Gus

Pretty standard story really: Always talked about it with my mates but never actually organised anything. So a couple of summers ago I though "buggar 'em", phoned up my local DZ and booked a tandem. Then spent 9 months (it seemed much, much longer, believe me!) saving up for AFF and life's never been the same since

Too right! I've ordered mine. Unfortunately you just know that international orders (to the UK in my case) are going to take AGES . BTW, the JJ website says the dvd is 2 hours long, compared to the 1 hour VHS so there must be a fair amount of extra stuff on there. Gus (who's very happy, despite being ill, 'cos the weather's looking good and he's getting his rig back tomorrow morning

...and as a result our CCI (this happened at my home DZ) is now talking about putting students on throw-away from jump number one and I think he's got a point. Why confuse people with hip-mounted and ripcord systems when they'll be moving on to throw-away in 10 jumps time anyway? Blues, Gus

Don't know how many of you have seen this already, found it whilst at 'work' this afternoon. It was written a few years ago but it's still pretty good, covers alot of the questions that get asked here. http://www.koyn.com/CloudDancer/articles/pc7sky.html Gus

Hi, I know a few people (myself included) who've trained with Babylon at Empuria and they've all been really impressed. I jumped with a guy called Nimmo who was pretty cool. It's a nice place too, just be careful with the weather and when you go. Let us know how you get on, Gus

Hi guys, Just found this on the BBC News site, seems they've picked up on people selling rigs as escape systems. Nothing particularly new in the article but a whuffo's understanding always makes interesting reading..... Gus

An awesome skydiving track if ever there was one! It's "Same In The End" by Sublime. Sloan: The city looks so peaceful from up here. Ferris: Anything is peaceful from one thousand, three hundred and fifty-three feet. Cameron: I think I see my dad. Gus

If your mum ever unchains me from her four-poster then I'll let you know. "Don't make me kick yo' sorry ass!" Me, to Skreamer. Now. Gus

On a related note, did anyone know that you can get a your_name@skydiver.co.uk email address from another.com ? I've had mine for ages but always forget to give it to anyone! Gus (@skydiver.co.uk)

Dude, if it helps you can print off the picture from my profile, stick it on your wall and abuse it as much as you like. If it makes you feel any better I abuse your mum every night. Mate, we've missed your crazy ass at Langar recently. But I'm moving to Guildford on Sunday so maybe I'll be at Hinton a bit more. Perhaps I can teach you some ff skills! Laters, Gus

A quick question for you all: A weigh about 175 pounds with gear and currently have 170 jumps, the last 150 of which have been on my Spectre 150. I've come across a 2nd hand Spectre 135 for sale but I don't know how much performance difference there'll be. Can anyone shed any light on what I might notice? Cheers, Gus

Congrats to our mate Will who finally cracked his 100th jump this afternoon at Hinton. Good job mate. He got stuck on 98 at Langar on Sunday when the wind suddenly decided to start blowing but we had beautiful weather today, blue skies and just enough wind to stop Will from another face plant.....though his canopy control still left something to be desired. We did a 4-way sit with BenW and one of Hinton's resident freefly coaches, Tim Carter. Before Ben starts telling everyone how good I am at sit let me clear it up - I'm crap. But it's a good laugh. Well done again mate, Gus
-
Good to have you back dude. Glad the new canopy is working out well, what about the rest of the rig? I hate you. Not really. Actually yes, I do. If Ric ever answers his f*(^ing phone I'm going to do my best to convince him we should go to Perris in September instead of Empuriabrava. Langar at the w/e? I think I'm gonna head down on Friday morning, stay Friday night and maybe Saturday too. Now I'm no longer living in Nottingham it's about a 3 hour drive, what an arse! Catch you later mate, Gus

The same thing happens to me occasionally. I'm using IE 5.5 if that's got anything to do with it. Gus "If a man hasn't found something to die for, he isn't fit to live" Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

SPLAT! Haha, take that.

I jump at Langar and I've just graduated from Nottingham! I'm not sure who's in charge of the uni parachute club next year but you can email them (parachute_club@hotmail.com) and find out what the score is. They get a certain amount of money from the AU that they use to subsidise jump tickets, I probably got about 15 tickets from them at about 1/2 price over the past year. You couldn't really ask for more: the cheapest loans you'll ever take out, subsidised jumping, subsidised beer and buses straight to the dz. Nice. Good luck in Empuria, catch ya at Langar. Above anything else, the thing that always helped me put on a good arch was concentrating on pointing my toes and keeping my head up. If you do these two things it's more difficult not to arch! As a last resort if I couldn't stop spinning (which happened at least once) then I moved into a track. When you've got your arms by your side and your legs straight it's easier to maintain a symmetrical body position, which will stop you from spinning. Just my £0.02

Well done Ric mate. WE WERE UPSIDE DOWN!

This was on the BBC Leeds news site, a couple more details but no mention of the home dz or any real explanation of the accident. Gus "If a man hasn't found something to die for, he isn't fit to live" Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

I heard this on the radio last night, someone posted the following (from teletext) on uk.rec.skydiving: That's the only reference I've found so far. My condolences of course to anyone that knew Susan. Be safe, Gus "If a man hasn't found something to die for, he isn't fit to live" Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

Before I bought my Atom I asked everyone I saw with one on what they thought of it and all I got was positive comments. My rigger jumps one and he told me it's one of the most well made and durable containers about. The reversed risers might not be to everyone's taste though. The theory is that they have one less grommet and that makes them stronger but I've never heard of any type of riser breaking. I really like the bridle line protection, comming out of the pilot chute pouch there's just 2cm of exposed line, at the pin there's about 4cm. The risers are well protected, I've never had the covers pop open. The reserve pin has the best cover I've seen (aside from something like the Teardrop where it's actually between your back and the rig). The main pin is also well covered, with a nice long tounge that tucks up under main flaps and is about as secure as I've seen. Even though the harness is a little bit too small (I bought the whole rig 2nd hand) it's really comfortable, especially under canopy. I wouldn't hesitate in buying another Atom, after 100 jumps it's been absolutely faultless.
