    Glide ratio

Are many / any people tracking there these days? I've seen a couple come close. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Upgraded PF tracking suit

The recent PF newsletter says that an upgraded tracking suit will be launched in 2007. Does anyone have any details? Or failing that, wild conjecture? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    120' S

What about brake settings? If there's little chance of object strike and you think you may be flaring on the risers with the brakes still stowed is there any value in using a shallower setting? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    "Bad Ideas" list

That's true, but there's more to it than that. I've had stability problems jumping my PF suit (thread here), including at pulltime and I've seen other people on here alluding to it too. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Fatality: Swiss Valley

Comments like this: ...and this: ...and all the crap TVPB has now edited out are absolutely fucking disgraceful and the posters should be ashamed of themselves. This man is not even in the ground and yet he and his friends are being publically slated by people who know fuck all about the situation. It's sickening. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Best RIG??

That's not quite fair, the Hybrid Robi had did not contain a normal Troll. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. I'm using a fine mesh, rolling the nose as tight as I can and doing tight direct control. It definately tames it a little but I've found the openings also become less consistent and it still wallops me every now and again. Like I said, for trips up to a week long it's ok but I'm hoping to jump alot over the summer and I'd like something just a little less brutal! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  12. I'm considering buying an unvented Troll for ws/terminal jumps. My MDV is brilliant but if I'm doing a lot of ws/terminal jumps it can start to hurt a bit . I'd like to be able to use it slider down as well, is anyone doing this regularly and can you tell me how it performs? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  13. Yuri can you share anything you've learnt so far about the V2? Ta, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Packing clamps

I did my first couple of hundred pack jobs with no clamps, so I know I can do it reasonably well if I need to. Since then though I've been clamping and it helps me pack quicker and neater. I only use them after I've done my width reducing folds, to keep the canopy 'thin'. Without them I find myself wrestling the canopy and distorting the nose much more when closing the top pin. 15. So Kris, what would you do if someone was there doing wholey inappropriate, massively dangerous jumps in complete contradiction to the well meant advice of exerienced jumpers? Really. I'm interested. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  16. I will add my own limited experience and agree with Yuri, I'm finding my transition from S3 to V2 much harder than I was expecting. I suppose I thought I'd put the V2 on and I'd magically fly further and faster but so far on my best V2 flights I've done about 90% as well as my best S3 flights. Of my 14 V2 flights I've had a single 10 second period where I felt I'd hit the sweet spot but I'm very confident that once I can find and hold that reliably this suit will absolutely smoke the old one. 17. One for the GPS BASE boys? I'm trying to do some rough glide ratio calculations from places where I know (a) the exit altitude (b) my opening altitude and (c) the horizontal distance covered. What's a good estimate for the amount of altitude used up before you're flying 'properly'? Let's say before you're flying at 75% of your final glide. 500 ft? I'm thinking about this: if a big wall is 4000 ft vertical and 5500 ft horizontal to the landing area and it takes 500 ft to get flying then a 2:1 glide would have you pitching over the landing area at 750 ft. A 2:5:1 would have you pitching at 1300 ft. But I don't know how realistic that 500 ft is. Thanks! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  18. Not sure really. I'm about 180 out of the door. I have 2 rides on my PD-R 126 and I was very happy with how it flew and landed. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. I've had variable results. The openings are definately more conistent if I collapse everything and do a more conventional deployment. All power to you Sam. Maybe I'm soft but having had one quite violent spinning mal on my Crossfire I don't like deploying it at less than 3k on a normal skydive, let alone deploying at 2k with a V2 on. The point is to have an ultra reliable, fast opening, stable, predictable canopy that I can happily deploy from full flight at 2k. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  20. As my wingsuits get bigger and my mains get smaller I'm starting to think about putting together a wingsuit specific rig, one which will allow me to fly for longer/lower than I would dare with an elliptical and one where I can deploy in full flight. Recently I've been having a lot of fun getting out "low" and practicing maxing it out but I'm having to borrow a rig to do it. I found a few old posts saying some people were using PD-Rs as main, does anyone have more recent experiences or knowledge they can share? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    No lift

This is not true glide (air speed / fallrate) it is ground glide (ground speed / fallrate). Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  22. This is from a larger article called Risking It All that I found through Google's new News Archive Search. I'm sure there are some other gems out there. The very last sentance made me laugh
  23. Nothing wrong with that advice. Thanks everyone, I like to have stuff to aspire to. See you out there soon. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Tracking angle

I have very few tracking jumps in BASE but recently I felt I was making good progress by keeping quite head low. Every once in a while I'd "fall out" of the angle, get pushed head high and I'd feel like I was stalling, very similar to stalling a wingsuit. Is that sensation of speed just coming from the fallrate? At what sort of angle have you found your best tracks? Edited to add: I'm talking about normal clothing here. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
