  1. I'm sure I've heard crw dogs refer to that as 'hobbling' or something similar. Maybe ask in the crw forum. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Please don't give them any idea...... Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. Spot on Monty. I know one jumper in particular who doesn't have a great relationship with his mentor and it's a crap situation for both of them - but particularly for the student. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. Bird man anti line twist D bag......as in one of the options on a Wings container? Is that what you're talking about? Check out this thread for a bit of info. It's basically a triangle of fabric sewn across the length of the dbag so the bag is extracted more evenly rather than just around the bridle attachment point. That's really badly described though . It turns the dbag from: []---- to: []>--- Where [] is the bag, ---- is the bridle and > is the triangle of fabric. I have it on my Wings but I can't say I've noticed a significant difference in my openings. Edited to add: there's a pic of it on the Wings website. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Packing question?

If in doubt, repack it. Why risk it? If all you're talking about is where on the brake line your toggles are positioned then FWIW I don't change mine between su and sd. I think the difference you introduce by taking the brake lines outside the slider/guide rings negates a couple of inches difference on the toggle settings. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. I am running at about 15% 'not illegal' jumps. I would guess that's fairly representative of my jumping friends. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. A friend of mine got his new Type R recently and described the d-bag as being (deliberately) too big for the canopy and the container pack tray. Like the pack tray has a volume of 250 cu in but the bag has a volume of 300 cu in (made up numbers). So you end up squashing the bag in to the container rather than the canopy in to the bag. This wasn't something he chose, it's the way the container is designed. It sounds like it's supposed to improve openings by making it easier to cleanly bag the canopy. I didn't actually get to look at it, does anyone know what I'm on about? Or what the reasoning behind it is? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Rateing jumps..

Hey Nick, I can never decide whether the tower is moving or whether it's just my head spinning . Last night I definately thought the A was swaying a little (500 ft, 3 wires, ~15 mph at the top). I always assumed they were designed to 'give' a bit. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  9. Yeah man, I'm down with that. I've done a handful getting out infront of the static lines at 3500 and still getting some serious air time - like 30+ secs I think. Bit scary but a lot of fun
  10. The valley is an incredibly beautiful place to jump and a small amount of cooperation with the locals and a bit of respect for the environment is a very small price to pay to keep access open. Each exit point has a plaque nearby with the Air Glacier phone number on it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. I'd put money on the PHI having scalloped trailing edges simply because it looks kinda cool. The wingsuit 'industry' is getting more competitive and manufacturers need to make their product more easily recognisable. Same goes for the single zipper I guess. You have to admit that it's a distinctive looking suit. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  12. My hunch is that you'd be ok at Langar, especially if you brought your video along and got CraigyP or one of the rest of us to back you up if need be. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

  14. Very, very nice J. Was it an especially low opening? You know I was wondering the other day about a Prodigy + our 1000 ft A's...... Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    ethical question

Hey Sean, IMHO having 2 groups going off an object is generally not at all cool (especially for the 2nd group) and it's normally pretty easy to avoid. If this guy changed his mind he really should have given you a heads up. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    another low pull

The link works but when I try and play it I get: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play." Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. Have you seen the Altimaster Titan? Things are already heading in that direction. That's interesting. I've often thought that transmitters and triangulation could be a cheap and accurate alternative to gps but I don't have the knowledge to really work it through. All this tech is great but there's definately something to be said for taking off your camera, switching off your audibles, leaving your Neptune on the ground and just flying for the fun of it.

    Base and Parents

I was very honest with my parents when I started jumping. I sat them down and explained all I could about how BASE gear and knowledge had matured since the 'modern era' of BASE began. I explained how carefully we pack and how we configure our gear for each jump. I talked about the people I was training with and their expertise. Basically I tried to get across the idea that it's not completely suicidal and that I was taking it very seriously. Then I asked them if they had any questions and I did my best to answer them. They were certainly not happy but I think very few parents would be. I've shown them some videos since and maybe they're a bit calmer about it now but basically they'd rather not know. 21. I've heard this same story so many times it's not funny. A jumper turns up to a UK dropzone part way through his training and instead of the dz thinking "here's an opportunity to create a lifelong customer" they think "this cunt denied me income by training abroad and now he has the cheek to expect me to finish it off for him". Welcome to UK skydiving. My advice? Try a different dz. Turn up during the week when it's less busy and stressed out and expect to repeat some of the training (they don't know you from Jack remember). If that doesn't work get a cheap flight to Empuria (where you will be treated very well), finish your aff in a couple of days and come back a fully licensed jumper. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  22. Have you tried a search? There must be loads of info on here and Blinc. The Neo is a 2 pin rig that Kevin McGuire used to make but I think he's sort of 'retired' from that now. He posts on here a fair bit so I'm sure he'll give you all the info. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  23. At all speeds your body position will greatly effect the impact of deployment on your body, but probably more so the longer the delay. I certainly wouldn't do 3+ secs slider down on a jump unless I was completely rock solid in freefall. Which is rare . In Dead Jaap's case though I'd go with Tom's explanation. It sounds like the healthy dose of black death factor was balanced out but a fair bit of good luck. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
