  1. Yes, you are Wow, the devastating "I know you are but what am I?" argument. Why does anyone bother responding to this guy?
  2. The church, especially in the South, didn't speak out about enough against the KKK in the days before civil rights when they were most active. And I would argue that did lend a degree of complicity in their silence. Now that they are much diminished, it is less of a factor. The fact is that a lot of the terrorism and violence against civilians is done specifically in the name of Islam. Clearly there is a political battle going on between the moderates and the radicals for the minds of the people on the street. Take a look at the Hamas children's TV show thread for one example of this. If the moderates don't speak up, loud and clear, the radicals will win over those minds.
  3. Right. Let's poison the minds of the children with hatred. Someone tell me how that's going to help end the cycle of violence.
  4. I watched it yesterday. It was political propaganda, combining sensationalist footage of violence and Koranic verses out of context in order to convince viewers that Islam is a religion of violence. It is no different from someone taking footage of KKK or Eric Rudolph violence, adding some out of context Bible verses, and claiming that Christianity is a religion of violence. Either might appear credible to those ignorant of the topic, but neither would be an accurate representation of the religion. Let there be no compulsion in religion. (Koran, 2:257) As bad as other religions may be, at least they don't threaten with violence those that point out their proclivity towards violence. Then again, maybe they're just not that stupid. Islam doesn't threaten violence either. Radical groups do...even governments (in the case of Saudi Arabia for instance). Same with Christianity. Christianity doesn't threaten violence against blacks and Jews (for doing absolutely nothing other than being black or Jewish), but the KKK does. Christianity doesn't threaten to kill physicians who perform abortions, but the Lambs of Christ and the Army of God do. These extremist groups have a purpose that they try to legitimize by applying religious doctrine to their causes. Islam is no more responsible for extremist groups that hide behind its teachings than Christianity is for the KKK. Are you satisfied then that moderate Islamic religious leaders have condemned the radicals loud and clear?
  5. The numbers are not per year. They are cumulative since Bill Clinton left office in 2001.
  6. She's a whore -- takes no imagination to figure out what the "what" is. On the other hand, the question of what the "what" is can make a considerable difference in price.
  7. Being in Pennsylvainia, she thinks it's time to play the Rocky card. Yoh, Adrianne! Doesn't that make Bill Adrian?
  8. Well, if Maliki really gets serious with coming down on the Shiite militias, that gives the Sunnis a lot more confidence that they will have a role in the government. It's really Iraq's only shot to avoid eventual annexation by Iran.
  9. There were 3 other guys on the jump, all with parachutes. You think there was only one who could have hooked on? Nah, this is pussy shit compared to the double back flip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VngJrAIzFNE
  10. Yeah, I'm sure McCain would get a big kick out of that.
  11. Everybody drives electric cars. No more fossil fuel power plants. All power comes from a mix of wind, solar, hydroelectric, and nuclear.
  12. That is interesting. But the more important point is the one you posed in the subject line. In spite of the fact that the pro-gun folk agree with you on the negligence of the pilot, none has gone as far as you to say that maybe that makes it a bad idea to allow pilots to have guns. To me it makes no difference whether it was negligence or an unavoidable accident. The consequences of a weapons discharge at 30,000 feet is enough for me to say the risk far outweighs the reward.

  14. That's the amazing thing. Just like all the violence during the controversy over the cartoon with Mohammed's bomb turban, their actions only serve to confirm precisely what they're protesting against. How is it they don't get that?
  15. So? How do you feel about that?
  16. It makes me angry that anyone would not find it acceptable for anyone else to be angry. We all have a right to be angry.
  17. Nice try, but I still don't see a valid comparison between a peaceful (yet with very misplaced values) religious group and the Taliban. When's the last time a JW blew you up in a market? Go look up the Taliban's actual doctrine, which includes the TOTAL subjugation of women, killing all the infidels, and numerous other whacked shit, then check on that comparison. We DO have freedom of religious expression in this country. The Taliban isn't interested in that. Of course the parallel isn't exact. But someone, in fact an innocent child, is dead because of others imposing their religious beliefs on her. She's no less dead than someone who was blown up with a bomb or stoned to death. The real tragedy is that it isn't the first time this has happened and it's also far from the last. And a big part of the reason it keeps happening is the sympathy factor Nathaniel alluded to. There should be no fucking sympathy for these people. What they did is just as wrong as if they let a toddler out in traffic and the toddler got hit with a truck because Jesus didn't guide her to safety. If and when the authorities really start to crack down on this and publicize long prison terms for the parents, it will at least start to change. I wouldn't be surprised if those parents were completely unaware that they could be imprisoned for this. Until we start to see a change in attitudes, there will be a justifiable comparison with the Taliban in terms of its tolerance for death in the name of religion.
  18. Just a fun opportunity to put down the US, a favorite pastime of some around here. On the topic, I can't believe charges are being "considered". Seems like a no-brainer to put those bone heads behind bars for some sort of manslaughter. But then you've put your finger on exactly what makes this like the Taliban. Charges are only being "considered" because it's so difficult for many people in this country to go against the side of religion. That in spite of the fact that freedom of religion should never extend to allowing a child to die.
  19. Wingloading limits are white man's law. Nice troll. BTW, can't help thinking how your quoting of Malcolm X paralleled the way Jeremiah Wright quoted him when speaking of 9/11. In both cases, your agenda is so thick, it blinds you to the notion that other people's pain is worthy of respect.
  20. Sounds more like Farrakhan than Chris Farley. I doubt it's a skydiver though. From the profile: Main Canopy: Lightning 99 ft² (4.04 lbs/ft²)
  21. Because I hate white people, that's why. BV said it best but no I'm not trying to make any major point here. I think it's funny that the cops got in front of the cameras and pledged that this was nothing more than a big mistake. I would love to see how it would go down if if a black dude were trying to put some holes in his car's hood with a gun and he killed someone. I just don't see the cops going for it. Don't you think it's more than a little twisted for you to turn this incident, as stupid as it is still tragic, into a racial argument?
  22. I think the word "godfater" was what took me over the top. (You know the best guys are the ones who, when asked, call themselves students and are willing to learn). P.S. Don Vito Corlone might want his name spelled corectly, it is "father" not "fater". And it's Corleone, not Corlone.
  23. You're making the assumption that terrorists will never lay their hands on nuclear weapons. I'd love to believe you, but what do you offer for evidence?
