Well I'm not considering downsizing, I was just asking what size reserve would be best for me.
-
I'll try the two step flair. That will probably fix my problem.

Well I have to admit, my landings on the 135 haven't been AS good as my landings on a 175 or 160. With those two I'd tippy toe right in every time. When it looked like I was going to splat, I'd pull the toggles down in one nice motion and it worked great. With the 135 when I flair in one motion like that, I land okay, but it feels like I'm jumping off a 5 ft. ladder. It knocks me down so my knees get bent pretty good. One of the guys at my DZ was watching me and he said to flair down to my shoulders/chest first to get a glide going, and then flair at the very last second. I'll try that next weekend when I go to the DZ and see how that works out. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

I've talked to my instructors and they said a 135 sq ft. canopy would be best for me. I haven't asked them about anything else yet, though. Hahaha, I weigh between 125-130, it always changes. My nickname is fritz and my friends me big fritz cause i'm so small. lol Sounds like you know what you want. So much that it is already in your profile. I hope you are very light. A 135 is quite small for your experience unless you are really tiny. Yeah, I put that in there cause I got bored and that's what I usually rent. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

I have 20 jumps and I'm looking to buy a rig within the next couple of months. Renting gear every jump is getting quite expensive and I'd like to have my own gear.

How Long Did It Take For Your "A"?
bigfritz replied to Fireflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just got my A license and I just started jumping this month. I had 20 jumps and one of the instructors asked me if I wanted to get an A license and he gave me the sheet and I did it all with not too many problems. I wouldn't have gotten it unless that instructor brought it up. I don't really care, I just wanna skydive. :) ------------------------ Freefly, baby. -
Downsizing from initial student canopy...
bigfritz replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have 20 jumps and I use a Triathlon 135. I'm 5'6" and weigh 130 pounds and I have no problems with it. I love all the control I have with the smaller canopies. I'd go smaller if I could! =P ------------------------ Freefly, baby. -
I just started and I've been jumping every weekend for about 3 weeks. I need to get a job though! This stuff get's expensive! ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

Ah, I've read through this a bit. I just didn't recognize it as SIM. =] ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

SIM? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

Is there a website that explains how to do different types of skydiving maneuvers step by step? I know I could just easily ask somebody at my dropzone how to do a maneuver, but while I'm not at the DZ, I think about it 24/7. A site like this would give me something to look at and pratice until I could get to the DZ to try 'em out. =] ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

What's are some good skydiving videos out there? I just got into the sport and I want to order some to see what kind of crazy stuff people do. I'm used to skating videos where shoe companies, truck companies, deck companies, pretty much any company that has to due with skateboarding will sponsor a bunch of good skaters and they put out a kick ass video. Is it the same with skydiving videos? Are there really famous skydivers that everybody knows? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

Cool, thanks for the info, Andrea! =] I just finished my static line course. I made 3 solo jumps from 13,500 today. Holy crap, it ruled!! I did left and right turns, backflips, and frontflips pretty good and got stable right after. I tried to stand up straight and I got all out of control so I arched and got back into a good position. I flipped on my back, rolled up into a ball, and did a lot of other funky stuff just to see what would happen. It was defnitely the most fun I've had in a day in a long long time! I'm going back to the DZ on Friday to jump some more, and then again on Sunday to take my Mom for a tandem jump! =] Fun stuff!! It felt so great jumping out of that twin otter at 13,500ft. So free. =] ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

The Parachute Center's atmosphere is very laid back. They've got a nice place to hang out, pack your chute, chat with friends, eat, whatever. There's even a couple dogs that run around playing with everyone. Everybody there made me feel right at home, encouraging me and giving me tips and pointers (I made my first jump a couple weeks ago). I'll be looking forward to spending a lot of time there. =] If you ever head over there, look for the short 16yr old. That'd be me! Haha

I started out with a chute just a little smaller than tandem's size. For my first freefall I used a Triathlon 175 and that thing went a lot faster than my previous chute. It was kinda scary at first coming up that fast, but I made a smooth landing so it was good. It was pretty windy that day, so I'm hoping I can make that smooth of a landing at 9am when it's not that windy. Wish me luck! =P ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

Ah, I see what you mean, okay. I made 4 jumps last Sunday, that leaves 6 for next Sunday. I'm goin to the DZ at 9am, so I think that'll be plenty of time. But if I don't make the rest of the 6 jumps, that's fine I'll just come back another day. I'm not trying to rush anything. I'm learning more about rigs every day...I think by the time I have my A license I'll know enough and have talked to enough people to choose a good rig. Thanks for you concern, though. =] ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

So, I'm 16 and that means I'm not wize enough to skydive? Can you tell me why exactly that is? You're never too young. From what I've experienced so far, skydiving is a blast! And from what I hear, it will only get better. There's nothing I'd like more than to spend time with my Dad skydiving and praticing RW. As I was leaving the DZ today somebody said "Aren't you a little young to be skydiving?" That just makes me want to jump and pratice more to get better and show him what I can do. And I will. =] I made my first solo freefall jump from 5,000 ft. today and I absolutely loved it! Next Sunday I will return to finish out my 10 jumps. I will probably just rent gear until I get my A license and then I'll look at the classifieds and talk to people from my DZ and see if they have anything for sale. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

I made my first tandem jump yesterday, I'll be making my first static line jump tomorrow morning. Man I cannot wait! It's so exhilarating! Every time I think about jumping I get all psyched! Tomorrow starting at 9am I'm making as many jumps as I can til dawn. =] ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

Hi, I'm Tom, I just turned 16 and I made my very first tandem jump yesterday at the Parachute Center in Acampo (Lodi) with my bro and my dad. We all loved it! Me and my brother are going to start skydiving with my dad, a long time skydiver just getting back into the sport. Tomorrow, me and my bro are taking the static line (10 jump) course to get off student status so we can jump solo with our dad. I'm very excited to be a part of the sport! =] Well anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. =] I'll definitely be hangin out here a lot to learn more about skydiving. Does anyone know any informative beginner websites that will teach me what everything is and all that good stuff? Right now I'm interested in learning what all the different parachute gear is and what would be the best for me. We're planning on buying 2 sets of gear for me and my bro, and 1 for my dad who is a more experienced jumper. Catch ya later, Tom ------------------------ Freefly, baby.

Hi, I just turned 16 and made my very first jump yesterday at the Parachute Center in Acampo, CA with my bro and my dad. We all loved it! Me and my brother would like to start skydiving with my dad, a long time skydiver just getting back into the sport. Me and my bro are taking the static line (10 jump) course to get off student status so we can jump solo with our dad. Once we're off student status, we'd like to buy our own gear so we don't have to keep renting gear. I was wondering what type of gear we should buy? We're looking for 3 sets. 2 for me and my brother who are beginners, and 1 for my dad who has a couple hundred jumps under his belt. Like I said, I am a complete novice. I was talking to Bill Dause and he said to get intermediate gear. What's the difference between intermediate gear and other types of gear? Thanks for the help! =] -Tom ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
