    sitfly

I learned how to sit fly by accident. I tried and tried to sit fly and every time I'd wobble and/or spin out of control. So one day I'm just screwing around doing slow front flips and I over rotated and landed right on my feet right into a perfect sitfly. It felt as stable as ever. I could even stand straight up and do the "I surrender" pose and haul some serious ass. For a while I could only sit fly by doing an over rotated font flip into it. It's still my favorite way to transfer into any freeflying position. Or a sideways flip... I think they call that a corkscrew or something? I learned so much jumping with this dude John I met today. He has 1,000+ jumps and his tips and critiques helped improve my freeflying skills big time! I can sit fly with my hands in front of me now instead of way behind me, and my headdown is totally improved. I fall like 20x faster now. I can seriously feel all the skin on my face wiggle around... lol it's great. Before I was flying super slow with my legs as wide as they could go. John just told me to breathe and it seemed to work wonders.
  2. I just got my new BH Guner and Pro-Dytter for x-mas and my bro and dad just stuck theirs in the little ear pocket, but I thought it might be kinda cool to use the little Pro-Dytter mount they provided and mount it on the outside of the helmet. I was just wondering if anyone has done this, and if there would be any problems with hearing the Dytter outside of the helmet? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  3. I takes me about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to Lodi from my place. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  4. Kramer! How could you? Sweet, Beth! You rule!
  5. I had a big I *heart* Skydiving sticker on my locker at school. Today I walked til the end of the hall thinking, "where the hell did my locker go?" because I was used to just looking for the sticker. Turns out, somebody ripped it off. Who would do such a thing?! Sad day for the locker... ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  6. You can download the XViD Codec here: http://nic.dnsalias.com/XviD_Install.exe ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  7. You need the XViD Codec to play it. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  8. I had the proficiency card all filled out about a month ago, but I probably only sent it in a week ago. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  9. It flew off when I did a few flips out of the door on that jump. lol, I never thought that would happen, but 26 jumps later, it did. Check it out... http://www.outersph3re.com/skydiving/freefly_10_06_03/9.jpg ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  10. I uploaded it to your website, but I'm not sure if it went through all the way since I can't see any of the files in the upload folder. But yeah, put it on your site.
  11. I encoded that video better, it's only 18mb now. I'll upload it to skydivingmovies.com, too.
  12. I joined USPA before I got my A license. I sent in my A license forms and I was wondering if they'll send me another USPA card that says I have my A license on it? Right now that spot is blank. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  13. Ah, I see... So should I start my whole flair sooner, or should I hold the 2nd step of my flair at the chest longer to create that forward glide motion and then pull down from there to the waste as needed to keep my feet off the ground until I touch down? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  14. So will going through my 3 step flair a little slower and leaning forward a bit will help make my landing better? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  15. I'm getting better (I've recently done some very good jumps with some bad ass freefliers) and have resolved some of my fast fall rate issues by wearing a big baggy XXXL sweat shirt. I was reading this Pat Works book "The Art of vRW," and they said a big baggy sweatshirt is better than just a t-shirt. I think he was talking about freeflying in general, neither headdown or standing up specifically. I would have thought the sweatshirt would cause more drag and slow you down? Edit: Forgot to add... I was wondering if it would help me at all to wear a big sweatshirt? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  16. Thanks for all the info, Steve!
  17. I was at Lodi on Monday and I heard about it... So sad... Where is Scott Miller's class located? I'm in northern cali. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  18. Ah, I see. A freeflyer at my dropzone told me the exact same thing. I thought you meant if you learned headdown first, you'd have problems learning to sit-fly. Nevermind! I never use the chest mounted altimeter, just the gear I rent for the time being has them on there. Doesn't the chest mounted altimeter also get messed up if you're on your back because of the burble? One more question... If I spread my legs apart sissors like, instead of out to each side, will I get the same effect, or will that make me less stable at my stage of freeflying? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  19. Sweet, thanks for the info! I'll link to the video when I'm done if you guys want to see.
  20. How so? I can hold a stable sit-fly, but I'm just curious how someone would have a harder time learning to sit-fly if they fly head down first. Are different habits formed? It's cool, anything that will help us beginning freeflyers is great.
  21. Should I flair slower to I get more of a glide coming down, rather than a complete stop and touch down? I weight 130 and I'm guessing about another 20 with gear. So That's about 1:1.1 wingloading I think. ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  22. Right now I'm jumping a 135 Triathlon and my landings are tippy-toe in every time. I was wondering if there is any way to make it so I come in a little faster and maybe do a mini swoop or something. I only have 26 jumps so I'm not trying to do anything too etreme, but just a little extra boost maybe. Here's a pic of my landing now: http://www.outersph3re.com/skydiving/freefly_10_06_03/14.jpg I'm in a bit of a leaned back position when I land, too. Does that mean I'm flairing too high? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
  23. For me, I just thought** Where do they hide the "edit post" button? ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
