Here are the pics of the completed helmet. It turned out better than I thought, and she LOVESit! I had to give it to her as an early Christmas gift for TWO reasons, not the least of which being that she needs it to skydive this weekend, but also because I LOVE giving gifts and I don't feel the need to wait for a holiday. Oh lord. Don't even get me started on the jokes we used to play when I was in the AF working on air launched nukes. We had a supervisor that was leaving for Germany, and this guy would always take his uniform off and put on coveralls, leaving his BDU's in his locker...shared by one of our co-conspirators. It was about 15 degrees outside and there was about two feet of snow on the ground. We took his uniform outside and filled it full, to bursting, with snow. Then, we poured water over it continuously for about an hour, until there was a layer of ice an inch thick. We made a fake line badge for it and put his hat on it. When he finally FOUND his uniform, it stood up all on it's own. It's unfortunate for me that I followed this project from its inception and eagerly awaited the offering that it promised...only to find I was utterly disgusted with the finished product. The movie should have been called "Underwhelmed". Well, I'll admit that it held a certain charm for me back in the day, but now I'm not as enthralled with it. Of course, I drink much less alcohol now. Oh lord. I worked with her on a B-movie, and she was just vapid. Not that I had any previous indications to the contrary, mind you. I just wasn't aware of exactly HOW vapid. See, I'm a HUGE fan of Sam Raimi and company, so they can do no wrong in my eyes. Sam and Bruce started off by just making movies for themselves and their friends, so they truly worked their way up from ground zero. Spaceballs had charm, campy humour and the ability to laugh at itself. Not to mention the fact that the crowd goes wild when she goes "from suck to blow".
