I've never tried freeflying in a tunnel before, although we did try the Pigeon Forge tunnel WAY back (1 year ago ) when we were students trying to correct bad body position. I'm no sit-flying expert, by any means, but I'm no slouch anymore either. I'd be willing to bet I couldn't sit in a tunnel. As for the horizontal movement, it came to me in a flash. All of those things my coach and other, more experienced freeflyers were telling me just meshed in my head one day, and I was using my pelvis to move forward and backward while maintaining good pressure on my legs. I was afraid I had hit a wall in my learning curve, but it just took persistence to put it all together. Glad you had fun in the tunnel, and good luck on the rest of your freeflying endeavors. Holy! That was incredible! I've pulled stills from videos I have taken (while on brain-debilitating medication, apparently) of lightning storms, but nothing ever came out looking like that! Thanks for sharing. Heck, I dated women younger than that who looked like they took skin care lessons from alligators. Wait, you DID say she was 21, right? Lucky man, as so many here have reiterated. Happy b-day to your wife. If you yell at me like that 5 more times, I'm going to ask you to quit...if that's okay. I don't love you, Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school.

Yes, congrats to Wired Beef. You'll at least have some entertaining stories to tell around the campfire this winter. As for pooling money to buy him new pants, I wasn't aware that tights were cost prohibitive purchase items. Heck, I'll just have Cora go pick up some of those panties-in-an-egg deal for him and call it good. Lime green okay? Bashing others is not the issue at hand. As many here have already mentioned, it's relieving to know that nobody got hurt. It's where this all goes from here that counts. Posting in an online forum is not the same as acting on those printed words. If you get the same impressions about someone after meeting them and discussing your concerns logically and reasonably, then silently distancing yourself from what you perceive to be a bad attitude would seem to be a better course than setting yourself up to exhibit a similar bad attitude...said the guy who was previously reprimanded for his perceived bashing in another BASE thread. Maybe some examples of talking points and issues to address at a meeting might be in order here. Suggestions? Hmm, sounds like we need to make this coming weekend count, both for fun jumps and farewell keg-stands. Sorry to see you go, my friend, for more reason than one. We'll have to find a sub for team training until you get back, and I'll need to find someone else to be my reminder to tie my shoes properly before jump run. See you this weekend, dude. Yeah, I wondered out loud about that as I read the article at home last night. Is that even legal? The printing of your address like that? I'm truly doing my best to be as objective as I can be, 1) because I wasn't there and don't know exactly what happened, and 2) because people I consider to be my friends were involved. That being said, I do think that when anyone takes an attitude of "who cares", it has farther reaching impacts than merely upsetting people in an Internet forum. Being ostracized from ANY community, be it hobby, sport or life, is never a good idea. The people you piss off now may be the ones you need to get your tail out of a jamb later. Beyond that, I would hate to think that I was considered to be so selfish as to not be concerned about ruining chances for others to do what I enjoyed doing myself. As soon as I get word back as to when this meeting might be, I'll let everyone know. From what I understand, this is not a chance to get together and gripe about people and develop new animosities. This is a chance to come together and agree that BASE jumpers in the area and beyond need to do as much as they can to preserve the sport and sites as long as possible and not kill it for everyone. Attitudes and animosities won't play well in this setting, so please don't come if you plan on championing the "who cares" camp or the "back off my BASE territory" one. Again, I know I'm just a neophyte and only have one jump to my name, but I'd like to be able to take it slowly, learn the way I feel is necessary without feeling as if the jumpable objects will be nil in my area by the time I'm ready to huck for myself. Anyone who truly cares about this sport and the PEOPLE who share that interest will see some validity in this position. As of now, the meeting is tentatively scheduled for Saturday the 9th of October after 6pm at Skydive Parkton. But that's just an estimate, and not worthy of its own post yet. More info as details congeal. At least one of the local mentors is going to have a town meeting for new and current BASE jumpers at our DZ to go over some of this. Those of us who are just starting out and are taking this slow and easy are becoming concerned that the number of non-burned objects in this area is dwindling rapidly. Aside from that not inconsiderable concern are many other safety and attitude related issues that need to be addressed. I'm aware of the fact that I know less than a child about BASE, but I'm learning as much as I can before I venture out and make it harder for others to jump objects in this area. I know *I* wouldn't want to be part of that problem. If you think you could be considered part of the problem, or if you DON'T but know that others think you could be, perhaps the meeting this Saturday could help ALL of the BASE jumpers in this area. More info on when and where as it develops. Edited for sentence structure. Oh, and don't forget about our new mascot at BEEF BASE ALPHA: Bob, the chick with the biggest...uh, swoop pole ever seen. Can-a-beef, also known as Sub-Sonic Tofu, needs to hurry up and get better so she can strap on about 250lbs of weight and hang with the BEEF and Co. What does she weigh, like 40lbs fully clothed and soaking wet? Dude, that jump was awesome. I'm glad we got one in before you bail back to the land of full-bodied beer and women. I couldn't have asked for a better way to end my weekend than a jump with you and James. Thanks, my brother. Takin' your word on that one, nate. Okay, so who else is down with the SB? We're doin' a fouding members jump tomorrow. Everyone is more than welcome to join in and get their name and...other...stuff. Like "pringles". Or belly-button lint. Darn it, Nic...rub my nose in it, why don't you! Okay, it's settled: we're not going to miss the next opportunity to jump with all of you. Even if I have to sell internal organs to make the trip, it's going to happen. Looks like you had a blast. Ah, so. I wasn't THAT far off. I'll bet the view of the castle and the surrounding countryside is beautiful from under canopy. No, but if we decide that it's really important to keep THAT close of a watch on the member info, we'll let you know, VB. On a different note, sorry we missed your going away party. I heard you braoke nearly all of your own rules and almost had to be renamed. Miss you, dude. Hope we see you around again soon. Cora says hi. Man! I can't believe we missed all of that! Actually, I CAN believe it, but it makes me sad. We just couldn't get there in the time we had without making our host go well out of her way. Hey, is that airstrip you can see from the castle at Gruyeres the place where you jump while in that area? If so, where is the landing site? I was guessing near the soccer field, but it was just a guess. We'll get back there soon and make some jumps with you. We're trying to come up with a plan for that. Okay, which of our Swiss friends were unwittingly making me writhe in perceived agony in the little car I was in while they paraglided near the town of Vionaz last week? You know, all you had to do was fire up the McDuck signal beacon and I would have been there in a heartbeat. No fair. You know, I think many members of MBEA are also joint members in IBEMA (In-Bred Booger Eating Morons of America). I'm guessing, because I don't have an official seal on a laminated card for either organization or anything...with a limited edition Jim Varney the Saint pic on the back. Well well well, stuck again in a 5x5 cell, ol' chum(p)? Do they at least have decent porn this time? Oh, and we're back from the land of fromage and vin. Wanna hear a funny? All 4 rolls of the film I took while in France and Switzerland were unsalvagable, for some peculiar reason. I nearly went Rain Man at the photo counter when the guy told me. Thanksfully, Cora's camera only sustained minimal damage when she dropped it on our 3rd day there, and it was able to take a few photos. We'll give you the low-down when you get back. Hey, since we stated that the founding members can change the rules at will, does that mean that The Brander and I can make some interesting rules that run contrary to the ones that were just enacted? You know, to make the process more intriguing? I believe a celebration is in order, what with Dave and Larry successfully completing their AFF-I course, and my obtaining a new job. What say the folks at SB HQ? SONIC BEEF 4 LIFE...and that's a mightly long time, I'm here to tell ya. Aww crud, another important event I missed! Well, Hapy bleated Birthday, Sir Chuck. Take care and give us at least another 140 years more to glean what we can from you, in the form of drinking games and such. Sonic Beef 5 is in Geneva now, but was previously in a chalet near Vionaz. Schedule was tight, so we weren't able to get out for any extracurricular activities, i.e. skydiving. We're planning on taking a trip back here for the sole purpose of skydiving. Sounds like you and Matt are having a blast. When we all get back, we should celebrate my new job! Any reason for a good party, you know. And here I am in Switzerland, NOT drunk, unfortunately, and missing out on all the fun. Ah well, once I'm back at a keyboard that doesn't take a degree in cryptography to use, maybe I'll chime in a time or two. Much love to John and Matt and all Sonic Beef members, present and future. See ya soon. Edited for spelling. Dude, Futurama was/is (on DVD) some truly edgy, gut-busting stuff. If you enjoy the Simpsons and how oulandish it can be, how could you not like Bender the obnoxious, booze swilling, cigar smoking angst machine? I'm with Matt, I think that people were just sick and tired of all of the cartoons out there. Family Guy was cancelled because the networks kept moving their slot and nobody could find them. Now that DVD sales have shown the PTB's (Powers That Be) at the networks how incredibly popular Family Guy was, it's being brought back in October as a regular series again. By the way, Seth Macfarlane is my hero. Regardless, Futurama has enough of a following that they are seeing decent DVD sales themselves. Plus, Futurama gave us such classic one-liners as "Negative, bossy meat-creature," "Jam a bastard in it, you crap," "I'm a fraud, a poor, lazy, sexy fraud," "I'm doomed to drift through space forever with barely any swag," and many others that can be readily incorporated into daily life. So they've got THAT going for them...which is nice.
