at work this afternoon. I share an office with 2 other people. We like it that way, because we could all have our own offices if we want, and we call our office the "fun office". I'll respond since September is a real hard month for me, since my dad's death. My dad was the greatest single influence in my life. He always told me I could do and be anything I dreamed to be, but he always worried about me when he thought I was doing something too dangerous. He was still alive (but was dying) when I started skydiving, and I could tell he had mixed feelings about my desire to jump in the sky. He thought it was dangerous, but could tell that I loved it. He knew that I loved all outdoor activities, but he also knew that although I didn't show it much, I enjoyed doing the "finer" things such as going out to musicals, art galleries, shows things of that nature. Every summer while I was a kid growing up, he used to cut fresh roses from the garden, put them in a vase, and put them on my dresser. They smelled so beautifully, and is probably the one reason why the rose is my favorite flower today. My dad was very knowledgable, and was always improving his mind with historical shows, and articles on basically everything. My dad was always there for both my brother and I when we needed help. He always answered my questions, and when he didn't know the answer, he would go and find out then let me know. My dad always tried to incorporate everyone's likes while trying to plan family outings, and doing things together as a family. He was basically into many different aspects of life, and could do almost anything. My dad was great at home improvement, along with car maintenance, supporting my brother and I in our activities, showing us how to do other things, always interested in our lives, and was just a wonderful person. My dad was one of the most amazing people that I ever had in my life! July 17, 2002 was one of the hardest days ever, and still is. He was always proud of me, of everything I did, and I miss him. Q would have been proud of our jumps! The RW was fun (although the other people on the plane forced us to close the door around 6500 feet while going to Alt.), and the CRW was just as great! It was a beautiful sunset, and a wonderful time to get some CRW in. The weather was perfect, the dropzone (as always) was so accommodating to our needs. Looking forward to the next CRW event at Jumptown! Thanks to everyone who made such a difficult day survivable. i try to remember to return phone calls. usually sooner than later. What i have trouble with is if, I tell someone i will call them later in the week, or talk to them early the following week or something. It's those situations that I sometimes forget. Of course, I don't necessarily expect phone back from everyone because i know people get busy, and forget. If i'm not important enough to remember to call, then forget them. Of course things always can arise too, so you can't always jump to conclusions. The bizarre thing about it, is that I went to the WTC exactly 1 month prior for the first time, and I didn't go to the top, but I thought it was such an amazing place, and I made a mental note that I definitely needed to go back, and go to the top. since i had just moved to NJ that summer, I was on the phone with my dad telling him that I was far enough away from the city to not be alarmed. Due to the 5 or 10 minute delay of broadcast to buffalo, my dad had no idea what I was talking about. I left work early that day along with most of the rest of my building that i was working in at the time! i always kid with my mom to save the money and just throw me out with the garbage, but in reality i want to be cremated (my mom does know this too, just in case). Why cremated? because I want my ashes scattered around in certain areas that mean a lot to me. My summer cottage, in a cave somewhere (although I'm not sure which one), some in the sky, and some at a secret location that I spent much of my childhood. My mother hates the fact that we've had this conversation, but she does know... I'm a volunteer EMT, and I usually carry my EMT bag to the dropzone with me. I do not carry an AED or oxygen with me since my bag usually sits in the car, and during the summer it can get quite warm. I usually have my rescue mask, bandages, gauze, splints, cervical collars, head wedges/straps, oral, and nasal airways, sterile water, shears, ice packs, glucose, etc... basically the typical stuff, of course BP, and stethoscope. At the DZ if someone hits hard, I am usually prepared to help out if necessary. Although, there are usually a bunch of people who are qualified, and probably do more EMT services than I, so I just sorta stay back as a backup in case I'm needed. If I am needed, I'll stabilize someone, keep them as comfortable as possible, do vitals, and just do what I can until the ambulance comes. If I don't have my bag on me, I always have my airmask just in case, and I will take care of vitals via manual pulse and such.
