This is really the most valid point. In the "old days" there were hard copies: CD's, DVD's, tapes, etc. With hard copies you have production costs plus as with any physical item you have to balance supply/demand as you want to make sure you have enough but don't want to have too many. Plus you have to ship them all over, maybe pay for a promotional endcap at the stores, etc. there was quite a bit of risk. When selling a digital copy, you don't have all of that. Once the initial cost of the infrastructure to serve all of your files being sold is paid for your distribution costs drop practically to zero and becomes almost pure profit for both the creators and the Internet distributor. It's this easiness to share that really devalues all the content. But I don't think the solution is to make it "harder" again. Obviously, companies will charge what the market will bear ($0.99 a file on iTunes), but at some point they either have to accept those losses due to piracy (a large portion of those who copy wouldn't buy anyways), perhaps adjust their pricing or pricing model, or perhaps start cutting out the large recording, duplication, and shipping industries that they no longer need on this digital distribution age. If they still want the have items in stores, add the costs to those versions only. DRM is more for the RIAA and other groups than for the actual content creators. It's there way of trying to convince creators "You still need us" when in reality, they really no longer do. Profiling CEOs and Their Sociopathic Paychecks
Bolas replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
Welfare maybe. What about Medicaid, food stamps, ER visits for "free" health care, etc. Factor in their share of other services directly used that they don't contribute to as well. Total the expenses of all that for one year. On the corporate side. All the bailout money (minus current worth of the stock in the company the gov't now has) and the tax breaks given. I'd be really interested to see which is the bigger cost. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. -

I can't speak for others, but I find both just as despicable. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. -
The real question is this: Will the total increase in costs from this phenomenon (unreimbursed care) be less if it's absorbed at the local hospital level, or less if it's equally dispersed across the entire nation? Or will the total cost be the same, regardless of the level it's paid at? Further, will the savings from pushing that cost to the federal level be sufficient to pay for the new federal bureaucracy necessary to administer that shifting of costs? This doesn't factor in the additional # of people that haven't been using health care that start because it is now "free." Or disable this feature. For example, iPhone has such a feature in its AppStore. Nintendo Wii has it. That's why I do not use iTunes at all (in fact I removed it completely from my iPhone), and my Wii is not connected to Internet (and if I decide to connect it, I will firewall Nintendo sites). While that is a way around it, it doesn't send as much of a message as not buying a companies products altogether if you don't like their business practices. Why support them at all? To put it in more relevant terms it'd be like jumping at ASC but hating Skyride. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

What's the difference between enforce and catch? How can you enforce something if you can't catch them? How is it easy to enforce against friends copying back and forth MP3's and DVD's if they aren't doing it via the Internet? Unless everything non public domain becomes DRM (shudder) it's not possible. Even then the best they can do is just make it harder for people to do it so they have to actively break the law versus passively. There will always be hacks.
-
There have been laws on media (movies, music, etc.) for years but they were not (and really still aren't yet) easily enforceable. So they are mostly ignored. Now that technology is finally coming about to assist in their enforcement, perhaps those laws need to be revisited prior. The reason for this is if they were to actually sell the software, they'd have to include the source code. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

Zhills + weather hold + beer + community computers=Hilarity Facebook is not immune either... Yeah, "Karen absolutely loves the cock" was a huge hit. And was "I like little boys" and the "short vag issues" PM with my girlie Stephanie your idea?? I never did get to the bottom of that!!! SOMEONE was at my house for a party/boogie weekend and got ahold of my laptop.... I don't impersonate people on the Internet. Unless they impersonate me first than it's on... Always log out of shared computers and lock your personal ones... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

Don't you know? By keeping that kid in "normal" classrooms and slowing everyone else down so he can keep up, we can ALL be astronaut presidents... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

Any tips for optimising avatar/ profile picture quality?

I think we all do have the ability to earn enough money to support ourselves, though. That's a long ways short of being President, or an astronaut. But Timmy really WANTED to be an astronaut - how DARE you make him go get some other job!!! He just doesn't test well. If you read the astronaut training test to him... So, from what I hear, you're a good video guy. So, you probably get more requests to shoot video than someone who sucks. So, you make more money at it than the 50 jump dz rat with the 3rd hand gear. Lets give half of the money you make to him. Never mind that he doesn't take the time to work on his flying, video, or editing skills. Forget that he spends his money on things besides jumps and good equipment. You have more so you must owe him. It's not like you did anything extra to become good. It has nothing to do with your desire or work. It's only because of the guy off the interstate that pumped the gas for the truck that delivered your camera. You haven't earned and don't deserve anything. Do you? Do you really not see the huge problems with that analogy? I don't and I find it damn funny too.
