  1. This wasn't photoshop'd (except to crop it). Apparently Pizza Hut has perfected the art of time travel. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  2. So some coworkers and I got into a discussion about windtunnels (because of that auction on ebay) and we started talking about the details of how it would work out. I'm hoping someone can point me to some technical information that might help us figure out how much surface area people have, how much wind you need to keep from being diced by the fan, etc. Thanks! ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  3. My favorite are snack size bags of peanuts that have a huge "WARNING PRODUCT MAY CONTAIN PEANUTS" on the side. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  4. Actually that's not true. An auction on ebay is a closed deal once it ends. If the person doesn't pay, you can try to sell it again separately, but if you sell an item to someone different between when an auction closes and when you receive payment, you are violating a contract with the buyer on ebay. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  5. Anyone else find it funny that the payment says it must be received withing 5 days of closing and he only accepts cashier's check or money order? ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

I had a lot of fun with Splinter Cell (Tom Clancy action/strategy game) and Halo (fast action 1st person shooter type). I also rented Star Wars Jedi Knight II which was pretty fun if you are into Star Wars. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

    Web proxy

Could someone post or PM me the address of an HTTP proxy out there that I could use at work? I know there are a number of open/free ones. They just blocked access to a site (by server name, not content) that I like to check a few times a day, and the web proxy that I use for other stuff apparently doesn't get along with this particular web site. Thanks! ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

Actually, if I were beating my sons and killing my daughters, someone WOULD come in and stop me. You're right about the sovereignty of a country to make it's own decisions, but when you say, "It's part of what makes you a country", who exactly do you mean? Certainly you don't mean the Iraqi people. Did Saddam and his cronies constitute the country of Iraq? There has to be a distinction between a country where the people have some hand in their government and a dictatorship. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

It's not exactly a fair comparison. Our leaders are not dictators, do not have absolute power, and are elected to their positions. They are also guaranteed to be out within 8 years, if not sooner. Not quite the same situation in Iraq. Besides that, many Iraqis are ecstatic at the idea of being out from under Saddam's regime. As you say, no one would be happy about GWB being removed by force (at least, not too happy), but we live in a different place entirely. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  12. They did pick a time when the building would be extremely full. If the intent was to make a statement with minimal loss of life, they wouldn't have done it just AFTER most people show up for work. Yeah. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

For more than 20 years, Saddam Hussein has executed perceived opponents without respect for rule of law. Saddam Hussein silences these alleged dissidents because he believes that their political beliefs, faith, ethnic background, family members, or acquaintances are a threat to his power. Some are first taken as political prisoners before being executed. In February 1998, 400 prisoners at Abu Gharaib prison were executed summarily. Two months later, 100 detainees from Radwaniyah Prison were buried alive in a pit in Ramadi province. These killings were supposed to "clean out" the prisons. More than 3,000 people have been killed in a similar manner since 1997. Summary executions in Iraq take many cruel forms. A quick yet effective method is to line up the entire male population of a village and shoot them systematically, one at a time, in order to eliminate the village. Saddam Hussein's regime, however, often prefers methods that take more time and inflict more pain on the victim and the victim's family. His regime has poisoned political prisoners by giving them a slow-acting poison, thallium, which slowly infiltrates the system and takes several days to bring death. Iraqi citizens are often decapitated in front of family members, and at other times, they are shot in front of family members and the family is charged for the cost of the bullet. Saddam Hussein has perfected many of these methods of murder on Kurds in northern Iraq and religious leaders from the Shi'a community, claiming that they are disloyal to the government. Once murdered, many Iraqis are buried in unmarked graves so that their family members cannot visit them. "It has been the Iraqi regime's policy to change the demography of Iraq, by eradicating the Kurdish population from areas that are deemed important in the north of the country. The regime has done this through forced deportation, arbitrary arrests, and systematic torture." — Paiman Halmat, teacher, former Iraqi citizen As a particularly brutal example of silencing political opposition, it is estimated that at least 30,000 to 60,000 members of the Shi'a community were killed during their post-Gulf War political insurrection in southern Iraq. 14. Now we are talking semantics. Yes, the whole idea was to "terrorize" them into submission. The important point is who 'them' is. Them in this case was the Iraqi army. The idea was to scare them so much that the soldiers would surrender instead of fight so that we wouldn't have to kill so many of them. And it worked very well. Thousands of Iraqi soldier surrendered with little to no resistance, and they were sent home almost immediately, no harm done. Obviously, at least to me, there is a difference between dropping bombs on military targets and flying airplanes into the twin towers. Just look at the intent. The latter was designed specifically to kill as many innocent civilians as possible. The former was designed to avoid as much loss of life as possible, civilian AND MILITARY. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

Suspected terrorist that may actually have been innocent. Civilians who commit crimes they deem worthy of execution. Of course military action, and the acceptable collateral damage that goes with it. Let's not forget, we 'killed our own people' too when we ran the indians off their land. You could probably work in the 500,000 who died as a result of our very own civil war too Lets make some separations here. 1) Civilians who commit crimes they deem worthy of execution - Who are you talking about here? Are you talking about criminals? If you are, try to focus a little bit. The vast majority of executions are done by STATES which has absolutely no bearing on the discussion. In any case, these civilians are given a trial and are provided a defense in case they are unable to afford one themselves. This is not the same thing as the GOVERNMENT indiscriminately killing people at will. 2) Indians - I really don't even know how to start here. In fact, I'm not even going to bother. It has no bearing on a discussion about our government in modern times. 3) Civil war - huh? Besides the fact that it has nothing to do with the discussion, a CIVIL WAR is not the government killing it's citizens. As to suspected terrorists who may have been innocent...I've gotta say that if we invade a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan and start shooting and happen to kill the one guy there that isn't a terrorist (he was just on vacation and stopped in for a visit), I'm ok with that. Suspected terrorists within our borders (and hundreds of them without) were detained, not killed. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

Are you guys just having fun being difficult or are there that many people out there that honestly make no distinction between innocent civilians and military personnel? '...kills people it deems appropiate to kill...' Examples here? Or are we going to cite military targets again? ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  17. I don't have the time (I'm at work) to get to into any of these points, but I just can't NOT say anything on a couple of points here. The UN is largely 'worthless' already, as a couple other people have already stated. They have no real power of their own. Nor do I want them to have much more than they do. It's difficult enough dealing with the US Government wihout having to worry about International Courts and all that crap. And yes, the US funds the UN almost by itself. As to the US vetoing numerous UN resolutions, if you ever bother to look at a lot of them, many of them are pretty anti-US in nature, if not overtly. Any comparison of WAR to TERRORISM is just plain stupid. I'm sorry, I usually am pretty good about listening to what people think and respecting their opinions, but if you can't distinguish the utter difference between specifically targetting helpless, unarmed civilians for slaughter and military combat, we don't have any basis on which to carry on a discussion. This is one of the things that drives me nuts about the Isreal/Palestine conflight. Blowing yourself up in a crowded supermarket and firing rockets into a military complex are no the same thing! Don't try to compare them. /rant ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

The Iraqis never had their country in the first place. They were oppressed under a harsh dictator whose regime slaughtered innocent citizens at will. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  19. I'm not a real cat fan, BUT if you own a cat try this: Tie a long sock or bandana (or something along those lines) around it's torso, just above the stomach on its ribs. It should be pretty snug but not crazy tight. Now try to get your cat to walk. Enjoy =) ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  20. When I saw that part of the movie, I was in utter shock. I turned to whoever was next to me and said, "She can fly now?" It wasn't even a wing suit was it? It was like some kind of lingerie or something that she pulled tight to make into a 'wing'. And then the landing really sealed the deal. There's suspension of reality and then there's just plain over the line. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

  22. I can't make any sort of comment on BASE, but to just analyze your numbers: With rental rig: Spent $3960 Equity $0 Total Cost: $3960 With purchased gear: Spent $4782 Equity $2500 (conservatively) Total Cost: $2282 If you find a complete rig to purchase for $3000 and take good care of it, I have a hard time believe you couldn't sell it 100 jumps later for $2500. In any case it would only cost you the difference between what you pay for it and what you can sell it for, and from what I've seen while shopping for my own used gear is that in general rigs hold their value pretty well. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  23. As someone that just finished AFF this spring, I purchased a used rig from someone at my dropzone. The harness fit me well, and the container will allow me to downsize the canopy once with no problem. I had about 40 jumps when I purchased it and have made about 30 more since. I don't think that waiting till you can get to a higher wing loading is a good idea. Why not just get something that works for you now and then sell it/buy something else when you are ready? I woudn't just go out and get the first thing you see, but if you find something that seems decent (talk with your rigger/JM), I'd go for it. It seems to me that used gear holds its value pretty well if you take care of it, so you should be able to resell it when you are ready. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  24. I have a friend that is looking at buying some gear (we are both pretty new to skydiving) and was talking to someone that has a javelin with a maverone 250 in it. For some reason the person didn't know what size their container is. Of course the proper thing to do is get the SN and call sunpath to find out anything he might want to know, which is what he is planning to do. Anyway, it got me thinking about pack sizes. The sizing chart on their web site lists the max sizes in ZP sq ft. The maverone appears to be f111, which I've heard packs smaller. Can anyone give me some idea what the size difference is? A couple square feet? A lot more? Also I thought I'd read somewhere that a 7 cell packs smaller than a 9 cell. Is this true? Would it actually be a noticeable amount? ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  25. For anyone that didn't read the entire article, it actually says that ALL states failed the tests. I only posted the bit about California because it seemed the most ridiculous. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
