  1. I was hoping to get some input from people on the best resource for learning a new language. English is my native language. I learned German the absolute best way (living there for 6 years), though I've forgotten a lot of it now. =( Anyway, I want to pick up another language. I haven't decided 100% which yet. What I want to know though is what other people's experience has been with various programs. Should I pick up a software package? I've seen book/tape sets at the bookstore that are supposedly used by the US State Department to train foreign diplomats. My primary goal would be conversational...not acedemic. I'd rather be able to get around and find food and shelter than be able to conjugate every verb correctly. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  2. Maybe I'm mixed up here, but doesn't a weak USD hurt the economy? Low interest rate = good for growth, but I don't get the weak $ helping us. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  3. I need an MP3 (or similar) of organ style funeral music. The more stereotypical it sounds, the better. I've tried all kinds of searching all over the place, but mostly haven't found much and the stuff I have found isn't very good. I figured someone on here probably has some stashed on their harddrive somewhere... ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

  5. Hmmmm perhaps you should have blocked their faces instead of their boobies. Same privacy, but much better for the rest of us. Just a thought. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  6. N S F W!!! Consider yourselves warned. Now I just have to wait for the content enforcers to come get me. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  7. My co-worker has a 2004 Prius. He likes it very well. When we've got 5 people in there going to lunch, the pickup is a little on the slow side, but otherwise he seems to think it's pretty reasonable. I haven't heard any complaints out of him about it. His other car is a Porshe... ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  8. Two things that I found made a big difference in the time it takes me to pack (I've got about 80 jumps, probably half on my own pack jobs): 1) Practice, obviously. After you've done it even a few times it will speed up. 2) After you pack it a little crappily and it opens just fine, you will realize that some things just don't matter that much. I had the benefit of being taught by someone that highlighted the things that mattered, and played down those that are just style. Once you realize the crap that you can pack and still have it open nicely, you'll get a lot faster. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  9. This sounds like it should have been posted in the thread I started about how to post whore... Clicky Well what do you know, you learn something new every day. I think that's the first time I posted a link on this site. 'Get Markup Help' was most informative. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

  11. I admit, you have stumbled across my evil scheme to take over the forums at dropzone.com. I have a farm of about 150 boxes at home that are each running custom software designed to emulate dz.commers. 30 separate instances are running per machine, each with it's own 'personality'. Right now they are just watching the boards, but pretty soon they will all log on and begin posting. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

    Post Whoring

I'm looking for some advice from those who truly are experts on this subject. Wannabe post whores go practice elsewhere. I spend a ton of time on these forums, but when I look at my profile it's sobering to see that I post less than once per day on average! Hell I just got rid of the 'newbie' tag. Anyway, I thought I should try to get my posting level somewhat more in line with how much time I spend reading the drivel...er...make that 'quality content' you people spend your days putting up here. So please, take a moment of your day and help me become a post whore too. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  13. What altitude do other people (particularly newer jumpers) typically break at when doing 2-,3-,4-ways? I like to pull at around 3500, which means I usually insist on breaking off at 4500. At times, I've had people roll their eyes or act quite shocked that I would want to break that high. Am I crazy? It's not unreasonable for someone with less than 100 jumps to want to break at 4500 is it? ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  14. 1.5 left/right .46 auth That puts me...kinda next to no one major. I'm right on the left/right line, just slightly to the right of center. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  15. Hehe. Wow apparently you have more power than I could have imagined. Well lets see, things that would be important would be: 1) Warmer than Minnesota 2) Bigger planes than Cessnas (about all we'll be jumping in the winter around here) 3) Beer (duh) ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  16. Yes, I'm aware of the dangers of low turns, etc. The answers that I'm looking for (and have gotten a few of) are pertaining specifically to times when you are unable to turn into the wind, whether that be a consequence of altitude or some other factor. Obviously I have had some landings that were not exactly into the wind (slightly off to one side or the other), but I have no idea what landing across a 15mph wind would be like, especially if there were gusts. I also have no idea what a downwind landing would be like under those conditions. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  17. I'm married, have a house, have done some redecorating, occasionally work in the yard (enough to keep the neighbors at bay), and enjoy watching TV. The wife and I also skydive. We both love it. This is our first year, but when I try to think about what I did for real fun before skydiving, I can't come up with much. I see what you're saying, but it is possible to find some happy medium between the two extremes. PS I do NOT like trading spaces. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  18. My buddy and I are looking for somewhere warmish to go skydiving from around March 19-24 of 2004. We need to get out of the frozen tundra that is Minnesota and find something fun to do. Any interesting events going on that weekend? Trying to search by date for an event is really difficult. Someone needs to put up a massive merged calendar that has all scheduled events at all dropzones listed. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  19. This weekend I got to thinking a bit about landing and wind direction. Let's say you find yourself unable to make a landing into the wind for whatever reason. If your only two choices were 90 degrees across the wind or straight downwind, which do you take? Does it depend on how much wind there is? I'd love to hear the voice of experience. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  20. I'm so glad to see someone else use the term 'recockulous'. I was starting to think I was the only one. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
  21. I hate to exhibit my utter newbiehood here, but I am unaware of the proper meaning of the word 'geek' as a verb in this context. Please enlighten me. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill

  24. I saw this question in the faq's: The Statement of Intent says that I should "exert the fullest possible effort" toward the creation of a minimal-government society, but I have moral objections to voting. I've never really heard anyone say they have a moral objection to voting. Anyone know what the grounds would be? ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
