I jump with a cypres, and I STILL look at every safety issue I can possibly imagine. If you read the cypres ad's it says it the best..."Set it and forget it" Thats what I do...I forget it is in there!...It is up to me to save my own life...and I have and will continue to do so. In the pre Cypress days there was more and less to deal with....Sure you had shitty equipment, but you also did not have big ways, freeflying, tracking dives, hell you didnt even have people jumping together... With the new age of Skydiving the dangers of shitty gear have been replaced with the added dangers of close proximity flying and faster fall rates. The only time I will expect my cypres to do it's job is if I am unconscience. It might be the plane that knocks me out or another jumper...1000 jumps or a student,.... at pull time it doesnt matter what happened. Modern day AAD's are MUCH safer than the earlier models that fell in the category of shitty gear. All this aside, I have blue skies above me, I think Ill go jump now. What about in Dropzone where Wesley Snipes does the Tandem jump and she drops him out of the plane with no rig, and then has a short conversation with the pilot and then jumps out after him, catches him, does a front loop onto his back, hooks up and deploys the canopy? Just curious if any has any cool poems about Skydiving...If not get off your arse and write one.... Heres one I wrote... Up In the Air Adrenaline pumping as you climb inside, Everyone smiling eyes open wide. Engines roaring as the beast starts to soar, vibrations in your butt can be felt through the floor. Seatbelts done tightly till you get to a grand, then quickly released by the touch of your hand. Relaxed in your own world thinking about, the things you will do when you jump out. A two way? A four, a six or an eight? Time the exit perfect so you don’t come in late. Sitfly or headdown, a group or just one, you ought to try freefly – Freaks have the fun! Awake from the trance and open the door, step out of the plane and off you will soar. Just position your body into the wind, and feel the rush as you begin to descend. Thirteen, and twelve, eleven then ten - nine, eight and seven the free fall will end. Break off at six, track right past five, pull above three and you’ll still be alive. You’re now under canopy, twirling around , nylon and string slowing your fall to the ground. Look over your shoulder, and remember to take care – if you turn right or left that no one is there. Spotting your target, and flying that way so that you land at the DZ and don’t ruin your day. Fly over the target, and hook it for fun, toe to the earth, drag your foot and then run. Your canopy just floats to the earth and then rests, Until when it again can put your skills to the test. During Bush's speech, I was in a caravan 13,500 feet above the surface of the earth about to take part in a night time Mr. Bill jump. We exited the plane, and there we were...Floating over the multicolored city that our airport services. The only thing that mattered at that moment was..."WOW...We did it!"
