Just got the following from an e-mail (that I have no idea where from). This is different than from above: =================================== LIBERTY ISLAND, New York (CNN) -- A Frenchman planning to bungee jump off the Statue of Liberty was rescued Thursday morning after his parachute became caught on the statue's torch. Stuntman Terry Do dangled for more than a half hour on the wrist of the raised arm of the statue as his red chute draped over the torch above. He became caught about 9:32 a.m. EDT, a half hour after the monument opened to tourists. He was rescued AT 10:07, apparently uninjured, said Sgt. William Vitolo of the U.S. Park Police. The stunt prompted officials to close the monument and evacuate Liberty Island out of concern that the stunt might be a terrorist assault. The island was reopened, but the statue remained closed late Thursday morning. Do, in his mid- to late 30s, reached the statue by using what he has called a "paramotor," a parasail with an engine attached. According to a statement released to the media , Do had planned to embark from a building in New Jersey about one-and-a-half miles from the statue to land in the narrow platform that surrounds the torch and then bungee jump from there. Do is taken into custody after being rescued Vitolo said the statue was not harmed, but officials were seen inspecting the torch after the incident. "What started here as kind of amusement or amazement turned to concern," said tour guide John Keatts, who said he was on a tour boat circling Liberty Island when Do landed. "Is this terrorism? Is there going to be a bomb? Is there going to be an explosion? What in the world's going on? So it was a little frantic for a while." He said boatloads of tourists were evacuated. Do has claimed to have made similar jumps from the Eiffel Tower and the Golden Gate bridge, but those claims could not be immediately verified. Do, who practices in his hometown of Annecy, France, has said he has performed these stunts "for the pleasure." -------------- Drop on in...leave a message

From someone with Homer as their pic?? DOH!! I think something is going on. Maybe it is the eagerness of waiting for 3 weekends and then some (10 days) of jumping in the next 3 weeks. I JUST WANNA JUMP!!! -------------- Drop on in...leave a message

This is a very good thread and is pretty educating. Glad to hear that you high timers and nearly there are doing the same. My AFF JM wouldnt go once when it was getting big and dark out, but I wanted to JUMP!! Now I know why.

As far as I know, the rigs at our DZ are safe. They look old and tattered (which Sweethogs don't?), but they still do the trick, open every time, and stay on my back. That is all I can ask. However, I wish that our DZ had some rental gear that wasn't like this. As far as I know, the rental gear is just the student gear. So, those coming in, make sure you have your own rig cuz these are UNCOMFORTABLE!! -------------- Drop on in...leave a message

Any SDC jumpers able to ask around there for me?? I may be able to head there the weekend after Richmond. Thanks! -------------- Drop on in...leave a message

I am gonna agree with Clay. Wow!! How much altitude did you get for your $350?? Either way, I can't blame you. That must have been a great experience and thank you for writing about it with such detail. I'm sure you'll not soon forget it.

Woohoo!! I'm goin to Disney Land. (J/K) Anyway, it always seems like when I put in my airports, it is like double what it should be. That sucks!! Maybe this deal today is the Richmond Boogie deal by the airlines, eh?

Yo Spectre...first of all I would like to apologize to you for how I acted yesterday in "the pub". (Seems I am doing this a lot lately. Hmmm....) I do not know what is going on with me, but lately I just seem to be getting pissed off at every little thing that happens. Some people were saying some stuff that got me a little upset and I just followed the crowd which I know that I should not have done. No matter where you are in the world, I just want to you know that I am truely sorry and it will NOT happen again. (To Spectre's friend in Cali who showed me the light...AGAIN...Thank you.

Hey man. I thought I had met you. My wife and I were there about a week and a half ago and someone told you (Roy, I think) that they called me "mini max". Hehhee.....cool!! What are the odds.....

Hey all!! I am asking all mid-west (ohio/indiana/whatever) area jumpers if your DZ is going to be offering any live water training in the near future. Laura and I are planning on doing a beach jump next spring, but we need to have B license requirements and that involves live water training. If you know of anything, PLEASE let me know!! Thank you!!

Sweet!! Now I can justify saying it. Michele said it's a word, so it is!! Anyway, thanks for the update! -------------- Drop on in...leave a message

This is a very good thread Snowflake. It is good that someone makes a point to make sure that people learn to track. My AFF JM has us track on EVERY skydive just to practice. He has about 5500+ jumps and says that on every jump he makes, he tries to do it better, faster and farther. It is very important to get good seperation. I, for one, am starting to learn how to track efficiently so I can only improve. Thanks for bringing this to people's attention.
