  1. I think i saw a few of your swoops this weekend, if i have the right guy. What you are doing looks good (if i have the right guy) so keep it up. Might i suggest getting some coaching on your current canopy. There are MANY drills and manuvers that you can do on the canopy you are flying now while on hop n pops that will improve your skills greatly. There are some basic skill sets that you will want to perfect before moving to a smaller more high performance canopy. I have an essential skills class this sunday and i have room for you if you want it. I will also be doing some one on one coaching this saturday, so i could offer some pointers then too if you would like. Don't let the "Essential Skills" wording scare you off, this class is for everyone! Swoopers get as much from it as anyone else, it is great information and leads right into advanced 1. IMHO, everyone should take this class. (Essential Skills and Advanced 1 are based off of the Flight 1 program) Let me know if i can help. Jason T
  2. PRESS RELEASE 6/24/05 RE: Go Fast Canopy Pilot Challenge Dates: September 12th – 18th, 2005 Location: Mile Hi Skydiving, Longmont, CO. Schedule: Attached Purse Distribution: Attached Submit by: Lyle Presse Spokesman / Event Organizer Lyle@Flexvision.com The Go Fast Canopy Pilot Challenge scheduled for September 12th – 18th will bring pilots of all levels to a Colorado drop zone for the most anticipated swoop meet of the year. We have no doubt that combining the inaugural CPC Championships, three record attempts, two new concept team events, plus individual, advanced and pro events in one big meet with an $18,000 cash purse and a fun jumper boogie at the same time will guarantee the largest field of competitors to date and an event not to be missed. Mile Hi Skydiving has shown a huge commitment by investing almost $40,000 into the newest and largest swoop pond in the skydiving world. An 8,000 pound one piece pond liner is currently being installed into the 370 by 190 foot excavation, and a cover to prevent evaporation will arrive soon. When completed, the over 60,000 square feet of pond surface will make it the perfect environment for all classic, artistic and team events. Plans include a large scale event at the pond every year, and canopy pilots are already thinking about making adjustments for the 5000 plus foot altitude. Early indications support excellent conditions in the thinner dry air for new records to be set. The Canopy Piloting Leagues organized by Jim Slaton and regional organizers will allow the top 5 competitors from each of 13 regions to enter the finals and vie for $5,000 of the purse. Another $10,000 will be awarded to competitors involved in a series of events organized by Lyle Presse which includes the two new events. Pro competitors will find themselves face to face flying past each other in separate lanes and opposite directions in an attempt to reach the center of the course simultaneously. A new 4 person event which will test the teams right from 5000’ through to the landings, and is expected to be the most spectacular canopy piloting event ever seen. The final $3000 is split into three $1000 awards for anyone who sets a new record in speed or distance and for the first person to go Dirt-Water-Dirt on the 370’ side of the new pond….. a feat that only the very best in the sport may be able to succeed at. DZO Frank Casares has ordered a $1,000 bill from a local bank that will be waiting on the far side of the pond for the first person who makes it during the allotted time period. Fun jumpers can enjoy the action of the meet or play on their own as the drop zone’s newly reconditioned Twin Otter will join the King Air and some guest aircraft to handle all the lift capacity that is needed for the boogie and the competition jumpers. For more information check out the website at www.milehiskydiving.com/gofastchallenge or contact the drop zone at (303) 702-9911. Information will also be available at www.canopypiloting.com. The competition schedule, competitor requirements and the cash purse distribution are attached separately. Sincerely, Lyle Presse Event Organizer
  3. Colorado CPC # 3 was held at Mile Hi Skydiving Saturday. Turnout was light as several competitors were out of town. We still had a good event, and the weather held off long enough to get the meet in. The results are as follows: Dave Billings 1st Steve Armstrong 2nd Jason Tolliver 3rd Jason Russell 4th Eric Johnson 5th Aubrey Cundall 6th Keith Hansen 7th Next meet is July 16, and our pond should be complete by then. Next time, we get wet! Thanks to all of the CPC competitors for another great meet. A big thanks to Lyle, Sarah, Jackie and Aaron for judging. We could not do it with out you guys!
  4. We are in the middle of our boggie, but i know Lyle said he would post some first of the week. I saw if from the air for the first time today. Wow, that is the only thing i can say about it.
  5. I think you might have missed the point i was trying to make. If we have local guys going 400+ or 450+ even on ten foot gates, (ignore the fact that they guy was deep in the gates), what can to pros do? The ultimate question is, how far can the best in the world go when the air is this thin. For years, everybody thought that the high altitude was going to hurt distance, but i think i will disagree. I think the distance records will be set here, and by a large margin! I might be wrong, but i can't wait to find out!
  6. Jim, I would like to add one thing: For everyone that has questioned the posibility of distance records in Colorado, a CPC pilot went 460 feet yesterday on a practice run. The gates were 10 feet, and the pilot was waist deep in the gates. The run was cut short because the pilot had to shut it down early due to a tent that was approaching fast. This was witnessed by another CPC competitor that had just finished his run. Winds were reported as light. Jason T
  7. I was out at the pond today. The dirt contractor has finished digging, and is ready to start the "clean up' work. The pond is HUGE! Lyle Presse flew into town today and will be here for the rest of the week to oversee the final construction. We should be ripping it up very soon. Jason T
  8. The dirt contractor has been hired and is scheduled to start next week. (tuesday). He said it will take 4 days to be complete with all of the dirtwork. I will post pics next week! Jason T
  9. The Colorado CPC crew would like to thank Mile Hi Skydiving, Go Fast and Performance Designs for all of the support. Thanks for making this so much fun!!!!
  10. The Colorado CPC completed round # 2 today. We had 10 competitors, and the competition was very stiff. It has become very apparent you must fly clean on every round and score on every round to have a chance at a top place finish. Congratulations to all the competitors for a great safe and fun event. A special congrats to Aubrey Cundall, Jason Russell, Chris Pope, Dave Billings and Jason Tolliver for all going over 350 feet on a single distance run. HUGE props go to Grant Adams, for setting the new Colorado state distance record with a run of 402! The final standings are as follows: Grant Adams -1st Dave Billings -2nd Aubrey Cundall -3rd Jason Russell -4th Jason Tolliver -5th Chris Pope -6th Steve Armstrong -7th Ryan Townsend -8th Eric Johnson -9th Keith Hansen -10th The next CPC is June 11. Hope to see you all again!

  12. Last night Mile Hi Skydiving received the final blessing from the Longmont City Council to build the largest swoop pond in the world. (The Go Fast Swoop Pond) We have working very hard with the city of Longmont, as well as the Longmont Water Department for about the last 4 months. It has been a long and tedious process, an many thanks go out to everyone that assisted with this project. Construction is set to begin ASAP. (next week) So, give us a few weeks, and come swoop at 5280 ft! A big thanks to Go Fast for all of the support they have provided to this project and Mile Hi Canopy Flight. There is no way we could have done this with out you. Finally to Frank C. Thanks for giving swoopers in this part of the country the nicest swooping facilities we could ever ask for.

  14. The longest distance was 300'. We also had one run that went 285 and two runs of 282. I think most impressive was the speed round. On a 185' course we had 5 runs of under 3 seconds. The fastes run of the weekend was 2.47 seconds.
  15. The first CPC in the Colorado district went very well. We had 11 competitors and everyone flew very well. 17. Welcome to the Colorado Canopy Piloting Circuit. The Colorado CPC will consist of 5 meets held between April and September. These competitions will consist of the traditional events: Speed, Distance and Zone Accuracy. The results of each competition will be posted on canopypiloting.com and will allow each competitor the opportunity to track their standing on both the local and national scene throughout the season. At the conclusion of the season the top 5 competitors from each region will be invited to the CPC National Championships to be held in September. To qualify for the CPC Nationals, you must compete in 4 of the 5 events held in your district this year. First place at the CPC nationals will automatically be granted a “Pro” classification. Places 2 through 10 will be eligible to take the “Pro” qualification test. We are working very hard to build the premier swooping facilities anywhere in the world. Mile Hi Skydiving is the host drop zone for all of our competitions and we hope to be able to hold each competition at our new pond, the Go Fast Swoop Pond at Mile Hi. This facility is the largest swoop pond in the world and will prove to be the nicest swooping facilities anywhere. The dates are as follows: Meet 1 April 23 Meet 2 May 21 Meet 3 June 11 Meet 4 July 16 Meet 5 Aug 13 These dates fall on a Saturday, we will use the following Sunday as a weather day. June 10 – 12 we are having our annual 5280 bogie. This will be a large event that will feature high performance canopy flight seminars as well as other events. Applications are now available from me or at canopypiloting.com to become a member of the CPC. The cost is $50.00 per year of which $25.00 stays in this district to help with the cost of equipment as well as prize money. In addition, there is a $50.00 registration fee per event. All fees for membership and registration cost need to be paid to Jason Tolliver. Please e mail me at the address listed below for payment instructions. To register and compete competitors must have at least 500 high performance landings in total which include a minimum of 100 high performance landings within the past 12 months and 50 high performance landings on your current canopy. In addition canopy pilots that do not hold a “PST” card must complete a high performance canopy piloting class offered by Mile Hi Canopy Flight or present proof of proper training from another recognized canopy flight school before swooping the Go Fast Swoop Pond at Mile Hi. This is a requirement of the Drop Zone. An objective of the CPC is to provide a controlled flight arena for canopy pilots to fine tune existing skills and gain competition experience. There will be a Zero Tolerance policy for those deemed to posses the wrong attitude, commit safety violations and/or create a dangerous element in a controlled flight arena. It is the responsibility of the competitor to read and understand the rules prior to competition. All rules will be strictly enforced. Please visit canopypiloting.com and review all rules associated with this event. For more information, please contact me at any time or feel free to talk to any instructor of Mile Hi Canopy Flight.
