freefalle's suggestion is probably the best first step. You can, however, obtain a complete copy of your FBI ID record under the Freedom of information Act... Go to Google, enter; Freedom of Information Act request - this should yield needed information. It cost 18$ (2002) & you will need a fresh fingerprint set from your local PD. Feel free to pm w/ e-mail address for info if you have problems. Lu7ck, D CORRECTIONS; Best firststep is probably; Access your State record. In my state, (KS), this is done by going to the County Courthouse (Records). Here, they provide you (& anyone w/ your name, dob, & ss#) with a computer...enter ID info...it spits out your State Record. (I believe this is the one most employers use...and could be confirmed w/ freefalle's method) It is my belief that anyone accessing your FBI ID records needs a set of prints. (Including yourself)

Something tyou might want to keep in mind; Not only will you be downsizing, but you will be going from a 7 cell to a 9. (See '7cell vs 9cell' in; Gear & Rigging) Lu7ck' D

I would check the switches as well as the fixtures, they could have gone bad. (or) If they were wired by pressing stripped ends into holes in the back of the switch, they can begin to arc with age. ( this procedure [pressing stripped ends into holes] is against code in most places-but not all). If you find this is the case, replace the switch, & use the screws on the side of the switch to make connections, then rap with tape. Do this with power to the circuit OFF! Feel free to pm with any questions. D

CORRECTIONS; "Mod 4 brake set mod (connection point locations changed to improve flair)".---Also control input forces "tail lines lenghthened to improve flight characteristics (in front risers I believe)"... Actually the inside control line(s) were lenthened with the model 4 brake modification. D

Try a 7 cell, (good advice). I am very happy with my model 5.0 Triathlon. If you stick with a 9 cell - you might want to try a PD Silouette. I believe it falls between a Navigator and a Sabre in performance. I've heard some good things about it from some very experienced jumpers. (Bill Booth jumps one). Plus you get the added benifits of easier packing (It's a hybrid) and crisp opennings. D

------------------------------------------------------------ Depending on conditions... I'm on a 170...190...or 260 ------------------------------------------------------------ Jim, I'm wondering what 170 & 190 you are using. Also what is your exit weight? Haven't done one in many moons, but demos were some of my favorites. The challenge of landing in virgin teritory can make for some interesting jumps. (We never had Satellite photos[amazing]) Keep us posted on outcome! D -
STOP! Your killin me .... the tears are rollin... oh sh#! I just p#@!%% my Pants

Exellent question- For me 20 / gusts to 25, at least until I get more experience under zp, and as long as I'm ok with the lz.

bshl, I'v got 6 jumps on my model 5.0 TRI 190 loaded at 1.2:1-Opennings have been soft and take about 700ft av. All have been on heading but one. (This pack job was pulled across the floor before putting in the bag) The diferences in opinion about opennings etc, comes from the three models out: Model 3; ez pack zp, model 3 brake set (original connection point locations)(can be updated) Model 4; ez pack zp, model 4 brake set mod (connection point locations moved to improve flair) Model 5.0; new zp, mod 4 connection pts., tail lines lenghthened to improve flight characteristics (in front risers I believe) Also has a huge (colapsable) slider. The TRI is trimmed 2 degrees higher than the Spectre & is not as "ground hungry", and I believe this is why the Spectre "surfs better". Also the Spectre is tappered, the TRI is 'square'. I love my TRI- Control response & flairs are incredable! I have never jumped a Spectre, but am looking forward to it at first opportunity.

This is going to sound like one of those "When I was a kid" stories, but I swear its true... In the '80s I landed out, only 1/4 mile. Broke a leg when my foot sunk 10" into freshly plowed bean field. I had to field pack, and crawl every foot of the way backto the DZ, across 2 barbed wire fences, RR tracks, a highway, and up the drive to the DZ. (This was my home DZ) By this time the leg was too swollen to set for 5 days. Was I pissed? Hell, I'm still pissed! But I digress...You had one car (I assume) looking for you, and I would be grateful for that. The fact that the person other than your buddy had to be "coerced" is DISAPPOINTING though.

I have returned. I stopped jumping in '91 with 300 jumps. I have jumped the following canopies; T-10, PC, 5-cell (Strato Star?) Unit, Pegasus, Voyager, Wizard, Cruiselite, Nimbus, & Manta. I prefer 7-cells & the Cruiselite was my canopy of choice. I loaded it at around .9:1. Upon returning to the sport (10/19/03) my search for a new canopy was on. I narrowed it down to the Spectre & Triathlon. My final decision was based on 2 factors; 1. The TRI is trimmed 2 degrees higher than the Spectre. (From Aerodyne) Therefore not as ground hungry. 2. The TRI is not tappered. Performance therefore should more closely match the Cruiselite. The people at Aerodyne where fantastic! Caroline is a HOOT! & Cliff is the Man! They both handled my repeated calls & inquieries with patience & expertise in a timely & professional manor. Canopy was on time and as ordered. The Aerodyne packing tape took the mystery out of PRO packing. Aerodyne's soft links have a ring (not a tab, etc.), and they have not loosened since day one. Packing the TRI 190 (Aerodyne rates volume at 420 sq. in.) into a Vector II v-5 (RWS rates volume at 425 to 550 sq. in.) should be a piece of cake, right? ---#$!%!%#$@!!!---This thing must have lungs cause if you turn it loose it inflates! I now have only a handful of jumps on it, but I am so impressed, I had to go ahead with this review. (I load this TRI 190 at 1.19:1) Opennings are soft as a baby's ass without alarming snivel. I'd put them at 600' to 750'. My hop n pop was only slightly longer, 800'to 900'. Control response is fast; turns are quick and smooth, accelerating evenly through the entire range, with no hesitation or whip. Input required is effortless to about the chest, from the chest down, input force required increases considerably. Landing and flare speeds are faster than I'm used to. My 1st jump I sunk in from about 6 ft. high, plf, no problem. I had it dialed in by the 3rd jump, like stepping off the front porch. This is one sweet ride, it more than replaces my old Cruiselite, but I think I'll keep the name. It reminds me of the girl who sold it to me....Nan Woods Cruzlite

Congradulations are in order! As a student you have proved your ability to handle a bad situation, not once but twice. My two reserve rides were nearly back to back- (floating rip cord I never could locate [Martin-Baker handle]) I think this experience reinforces a most valuable lesson; "When its time to deploy, think it will malfunction- then you will be ready if it does."--Red Kostiba Best lu7ck D

d, Tried it 20 yrs ago with headphones under a nylon tankers helmet...wires were kind of a pain in the ass...would think mp3 inside helmet would be better...but as you can see it makes some people uncomfortable, which defeats the whole purpose of the idea, sooo unless its a cross-country or some such solo jump I would say you'd be better off with a box tied down in plane that everyone can enjoy. I remember some rock'n loads out of dc-3s (Mr. D?) at Freeport & Quincy. D

Caren, Background; I sustained a compression fracture in lower back(L-4 area I think), on motorcycle in '79. Disk was vaporized & vertebrae above it now resides, (Auto-fused to), on top of what remains of L-4. Two years later I started jumping & made 300 jumps to '92, with no major problems. Traction-stretching exercises were crucial to relieving the occasional misalignments & resulting pain. (These [misalignments] were caused by anything from coughing to face plant from low hook). In '94 I herniated the disc above the fracture lifting 80#s at work. This injury was every bit as debilitating and painful as the fracture, however I gained instant relief with epidural injections of a cortisone-like drug. (although I now have to shave my tongue) (I stayed out of Skydiving from '91 to '03). I maintained ab. conditioning with swimming & sit-ups in a roman chair or on parallel bars. I have returned to the sport recently with no major prolems. That said, and keeping in mind that what follows are NOT recomendations, only thoughts, that is, putting myself in your position, heres my input... Just noticed your link, be right back... Looks like a sweeet site! (Was looking for discription of your injury-incident) Sounds like yours is an upper back, posibly neck injury...The higher up the spine the hernia occurrs... the more damage it can do by pressing against nerves, because the higher up the back you go, the more nerves are present. I would avoid hard opennings, (you may want to upsize & change canopies). I would avoid excess wieght on my helmet. (you may want to downsize camera equiptment-SIGNIFICANTLY-by the cursory glance at your rig) I would avoid hard landings. (Again you might want to upsize & or change canopies). I would avoid excess pressure/wieght on hands & arms at extension.(You may want to reduce the size of wing in camera suit). Generally, I would become much more conservative in my flying, both freefall & under canopy I would consider a lay-off.(Give your self time to heal). From the info. you have provided, it sounds like you have not experienced the kind of pain this kind of injury can produce... please be smart... take it slow...work your way back into it. Best of Lu7ck, D ps; I may be missing something here but, does Lightning+camera=hard openning+hernia? If so, I would go to (bigger) TRI or Spectre-I LOVE my new 5.0 TRI!

This one takes place in the 80's at a dz somewhere in the mid-west... We go up to do a 4-way out of the 182, I'm spot & hang...I climb out, hang & look left... The next guy out(who has only one good eye) is on the step, however he has left his pilot rapped around the the flap handle, and is unaware of it... At this point I decide to "hang" around... Time stands still as I make eye contact with the pilot- I will never forget the look on his face Without hesitation he reaches down, unrapps the pc, and throws it down & out the door... The guy on the step VANISHES .5 secounds later. I mean this guy DISAPPEARS! I look back, the tail is still there, & 2-out is under canopy & turning. So we go ahead & make a 3-way, break, turn, track, & open... Before I can get my brakes off, something hits my canopy, then goes past, & I'm thinking altimeter.. cause its (by now) so small... I follow it down as far as I can & mark it's spot, then walk back (1/2 mile) to dz... I walk up to this guy wondering if he has any idea how lucky he is, & ask him hows he doing... "Great but I lost my helmet"

I think-that's Jim 'Bing' Bohr in front of door.. I know-on HIS right; Bob 'Fedo' Federman.. Jim Baron & Red Kosteba should be in there but I can not ID Question/ Where are Roger & Carl? D
