  1. Heh, thanks for explaining unit systems to me. Now I know why I struggled so hard with my engineering studies. Seriously though, the units in his profile are lbs/ft^2, that is why I asked. I figured your explanation was the case, but just wanted to make sure. There is a unit converter built into the WL calculator in your profile. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. According to your profile you are 85lbs out the door? Is this right? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  3. Bump, did you ever get any stills? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

    smugglers rig

Yes, I understand the concept, thanks, but I was trying to think of a case where it would be necessary to actually carry a rig through a scanner period. On an airliner, I'm guessing you could just be honest about what it is (a rig is not illegal right?) though it wouldn't be as easy as a skydiving rig, but at the same time there will be no AAD to make it look like a bomb. For normal every day toting of the rig I don't see many cases where you'd go through a scanner short of the example I suggested, and even in that case I'd imagine there would be more preferable ways to get to the exit that avoided manned entry points altogether. But then again I'm not a BASE jumper and have no idea... that's why I asked. I understand if you don't want to answer. But I didn't see the harm in naming generic hypothetical situations. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  5. Just wondering what are the lowest (vertical) speeds you guys have seen on GTi's. I tried searching for this but couldn't find anything. I had an average of 59mph on my 10th flight this past weekend and looking at the graph peaked at 47mph in the middle of it. :) I'm just under 6ft tall and 160lb. I'm still learning where that sweet spot is so often when I get there within 5 seconds I've gone a bit too far and get unstable and have to take a bit of time to get my flight back... sometimes takes me 10-15 seconds to get back into pretty good flight after something sends me wobbling pretty bad. Can better fliers get to their "peak" faster? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Forgive my ignorance, but where is getting past metal detectors necessary? I'm thinking maybe to get inside (and subsequently on top of) high security B's? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. What yo name is? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. Don Henley's version is better. First, the song's not "by" the Ataris. Second, Don Henley doesn't do a "version". It's his song, as I'm sure you know. That said, the original is infinitely better than the cover by the Ataris. Some punk covers are done well, but this one is not IMO. In fact, the original is so good it might be one of those songs that gives me that tingly feeling... All 4 very very good choices. Both One's are awesome. :) And I used to always have the CD in my car with Learning to Fly on it when I was doing my AFF years ago, couldn't have been more appropriate. "can't keep my eyes from the circling skies, tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, i" www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. Is it possible that lift is similar to the lift created by a track... only it's a lot more, and a lot more versatile? Would you classify that as a degree of control you have when flying? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. I was trying to compare it to something a "normal" skydiver could understand. And it is *comparable* to tracking, but I also added the stipulation "with a lot more control". Emphasis on a lot. I was mindblown by my first flight and consider it much more powerful and versatile than tracking and a whole different animal altogether. It actually felt very close to canopy flight (fast fast canopy flight) in some ways... especially when I started feeling how much you dive in turns. In the previous post I was just trying to make an analogy where none can truly be made... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. I disagree, for me it was exactly how I expected it to be. It feels like tracking with a lot more control. I'd think most skydivers could understand that. That said, it is good.
  12. As a sidenote, even if you exit the plane at an airspeed exactly equal to your freefall terminal, you will still experience acceleration on the "hill", due to the change in direction of your velocity. Your acceleration is toward the center of the "hill", but this is a much smaller acceleration than you would experience with a still air exit, so for the most part it's undetectable, but sometimes I think I can feel it... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. It feels like super tracking... According to your profile you have 200+ jumps, so... what are you waiting for?! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. You're lucky if this is the first time you've been sick in a year. I have the shittiest immune system in the world. I've been sick 4 times in 2k4 already. Just getting over bronchitis right now. I am certainly not advising that you do jump but once I jumped when my nose was a little stuffy on the ground, and it actually cleared up perfectly every ride to altitude. It's a hard judgment call to make though... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. I find it unbelievable they were actually seriously considering the Bridge Day quarter... given the status of the sport in the general public and media's eyes (most will tell you BASE is "illegal")... Oh well. You have to admit Appalachian Warmth sounds damn cool. And I do like quilts... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. Yeh, I might not get there until Saturday morning, you think there will still be tent space? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. Yeh, that's the best part of the tape by far. Giancarlo is relentless. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. Chuck, I understand what fold you're referring to, but do you honestly think that affects snatch force? Maybe I am still missing something, but I would think the only thing that affects snatch force is the distance along the bridle from pin to grommet, and that is fixed, not alterable by packing. Whether the excess is tucked away or not, it's still excess and will be slack until it gets pulled tight right after pin extraction. This process of being "pulled tight" is where the "snatch force" to pull the bag out of the container comes from. EDIT: Been thinking about this some more... as far as I know the purpose of the little velcro square (and "counterfold") is to ensure the pin is able to be pulled. While it is advisable to use the velcro square and make the fold for this reason, once your pin comes out I don't think there's a difference. It will have to travel a certain distance away from your container (along with PC and all bridle above it) before the lower part of the bridle (from pin to grommet) snaps tight. This distance is fixed. The original poster's pin clearly came out since the container was open, so I still don't see how the velcro and fold could have affected that deployment... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. My second jump of the weekend (on Saturday morning unless weather, knock on wood!) will be 200... I know Macca said he'll probably do 100, tell him to get 98 by Friday night so we can do a double centurion jump together on Saturday! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. Since bragging is encouraged, probably last week when I did my first wingsuit jump and was told by my instructor I was his best student ever. Every other discipline of skydiving has come totally unnatural to me, so this was a welcome exception. At one point in the jump I was flying above him and he kept looking left and right for me so I dropped back down to join him. Later I said "you could have come up to me when I was above you, right?" He said he wasn't sure, he was trying pretty hard... How did you plan a 3-way 9 years before you ever jumped? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. Haha, I hadn't even met him before that night and I'll always have a vivid image in my mind of him passing out shots like mad. After passing out about a dozen, he turns around with the last two (one in each hand) and I'm the only one empty handed, so with a huge grin he shoves them into my hands. "Here, you need two!" www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. Nice description, I was the same way. :) www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. Are these ones going to be full (or even half) strength? I swear to god I had about 20 last time (and proceeded to brag about it all night), in addition to all the other alcohol I had and felt pretty sober all night and wasn't even the least bit hungover the next day. Normally 9-10 beers will floor me and leave me a bit hungover. Not complaining in the least mind you, how could you complain about free liquor served by a beautiful woman? Just curious is all... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  24. *** As I have told some of the students I have trained. "If you dont understand something I have told you, or you may need to have it explained in a different way to maybe understand it better, PLEASE ask personaly and not in a forum such as this were you may possible get the wrong information. I don't want to say anything good or bad about my instructor since he is a good friend and I think he did a great job with my first flight lesson, but a few minor details of things he said were slightly different from what others have said, and I wanted to see what the varying opinions are before making my own decisions. I am aware of the danger in asking for advice on an internet forum (or more specifically, the danger in trusting someone's word whose qualifications you don't know), but I am also aware that this is the only place I can almost immediately get an answer from two BMCI's (Scott and Chuck are always very quick to reply to most posts, no need to PM them directly
  25. BMI. Maybe I just misunderstood him. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
