  1. WTFM? I live an hour from Zhills, have a warm bed at my g/f's 2 miles from the the DZ, and most importantly I LOVE flying wingsuits! Why would I not be there? Don't you dare give me question marks! KrisFlyz ScaryPerry DaMan The111(!!!) eUrNiCc (Tentative......) unclecharlie95 www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  3. 1. Anywhere from 90 seconds to 3:00+ depending on skill, suit, build. Most good flock (group) dives last 90-100 seconds, a good pace that everyone can keep up with. Usually the really long jumps are tiring solos. Again dependent on skill/suit/build, the achievable glide ratio is currently pushing 3:1 AFAIK. That's 6 miles horizontally for a 2 mile freefall, no wind. Add a strong tailwind, and you do the math. I'd guess 8-10 miles is doable for the best, from 13.5k. Further has been done from higher, I'd imagine. I don't know the official record. 2. No special container needed, although mods to container and deployment system are desirable to some. The legstraps and lower half of the harness are inside the suit. See this pic of me wearing my S3. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. In some ways I agree with Zenister. Part of me thinks it isn't fair to tell any adult not to take a risk they're willing to. However, there is a difference between prohibition and regulation. The former is saying "You can never jump a 2.0 WL". The latter is saying "You can jump a 2.0 WL when you prove you are ready." I wouldn't mind regulation personally (unless it stopped me from jumping my wingsuit ), but I still am not sure I entirely agree with it. But I do agree it would be functional, if not entirely fair or representative of "freedom". But then again, DZ's are privately owned businesses and we are not guaranteed freedom on them anyway. Anyone with any amount of jumps is free to buy a plane, make his own 90 sq ft canopy, and jump it onto his own land. But he won't have to do any of those things, as long as there are gear stores that sell his unqualified ass the canopy, and DZ's that allow him to jump it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Since a wingsuit is not rigid, wouldn't the leading edge location always just be dependent on where you put your arms? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

He means the wing is designed to achieve a certain 3-dimensional profile (like any airfoil) when inflated. I don't think it's worded fancy or overstated. EDIT: He is not saying that "3-d" shape is novel or unique to the V1. He's saying Robi designed the wings for the V-1, in terms of AoA and 3-d shape. EDIT 2: My apologies if Tom is right and I am wrong. Will shut my mouth until further notice. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  8. That is simply not logical. Joe Propertyowner should not have to go out of his way to prevent people from doing intentionally risky things on his property if he doesn't want to. His awareness does not equal his responsibility. Every individual is responsible for his own actions. Even if the property owner was "actively condoning" (which is ridiculous - he's not), it wouldn't matter - he's still not making the choice for the jumpers! It's their choice! He doesn't need to teach them about gravity, physics, or how hard cement is. He doesn't need to teach them how to make smart choices in their life. He just wants to own a parking garage. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. You are fast, you fixed your mistake before I caught you for calling Belle "Parkour". www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. Those two things are sort of the same. Since the kid intentionally placed himself in harm's way, the only reason to put a fence up (even if it was _after_ his fall) would be to stop people from intentionally placing themselves in harm's way, i.e. protecting them from themselves. If someone accidentally fell over the edge, well then the city would more arguably be in a load of shit for even the first incident. I still wouldn't sue but it does seem slightly more reasonable in that case. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. Correct. There's a fringe sport called "Le Parkour" involving these kinds of jumps/acrobatics that looks very interesting to me. It also looks very dangerous. Whether these kids were serious followers of Le Parkour, or simply friends who said, "hey, think we can jump across that gap?", they were still free people making a conscious choice to take a risk for fun. The same thing we get criticized for. That's why I hate it when one of us makes a similar accusation. Oh, and the comment about us signing waivers is priceless. Those say nothing about us, our choices, or the safety of our sport. They are a product of and a signal of our litigious society. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. The same thing many people say about us. You don't know what was running through those kids' heads anymore than their lawyer understands the concept of personal responsibility. I'm pretty sure the kids did understand it was possible to fall, and that it would hurt. That was probably part of the attraction to their little game. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. I agree with the part about taking responsibility for your own actions, but again, why do you have to say someone deserves to be dead, just because they are taking a risk you think is stupid? Many people think the risks we take every weekend are stupid, and when one of us goes in, they see it on the news, laugh, and say "served the fucking dumbass right". Then a huge discussion pops up on here about why someone would say something like that. See the irony? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. This is incredibly ironic to me, because I've read these exact same words (on non-skydiving forums) about skydivers who have killed themselves. What always shocks me the most is the hostility expressed towards the deceased/injured. The same hostility you're expressing toward these "stupid fucks", as if they DESERVE to die for taking a risk, which is a pretty sadistic sentiment if you ask me. I refuse to call someone else stupid for taking a risk and knowing the consequences (and I assume anyone jumping off of a garage understands the consequences), even if the risk is one I would jot choose to take personally. The only people in this article who are stupid are those blaming the garage owners for the jumpers' injuries/deaths. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. Either you or I are misunderstanding his words. Saying that you want something that will help you get back from long spots (i.e. something with a good GR) does NOT alone imply that you suffer from get-back-itis. It just means you'd like to avoid the situation as much as possible, which is smart in my book... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. There are quotes by several swoopers about Velo's, and Jay's quote is "Velocitys are cool, and by cool I mean totally sweet." It's been around for a few months. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. Umm, you're talking about USB2, right? I'm pretty sure 10GB of data would transfer in just a few minutes, not 6 hours, using USB2. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. I am looking into doing this. Do you know of any good receivers that have aux inputs? Are you sure the amp in the receiver will be enough to boost the signal from the mp3 player headphone output to a reasonable volume for car listening? Have you done this or seen it done personally? Thanks, just want to make sure this will work before I drop close to $500 (guessing) on an mp3 player and car receiver. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. Have you seen Jay Moledzki's quote in the new Velocity ad? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. I'm thinking it wouldn't be great to have exposed PC on a freefall rig, would it? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. When I think of a wiffle ball I think of the ones I played with as a kid, that I could literally crush with one hand. Are these ones the same way? I'd like my handle to be somewhat sturdy. Also... I only have one rig. Would these other handles be bad for RW or freefly? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. Does anyone know where to find these photos (or photos/video of a similar event)? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. What is the best alternative to a hackey for skydiving gear? PUDS seem just as dense as a hackey (though I've only looked at them). I've heard of "internal handles" for BASE but never seen anything like that at a DZ. Old school student-type orange PVC tube? If so, are there any downsides to the alternate handle, such as ease of finding/gripping? I'll have to admit I love my hackey because I'm so used to it and am comfortable with it. It's never once not been exactly where I expected it to be when I reached. But this potential PC in tow issue may be enough for me to make a change... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  24. If a WS landing attempt does happen, I doubt the jumper would exit with no rig, regardless of legality. The jumper would be a highly experienced WS jumper who has done all of his WS jumps wearing a suit and rig... to take the rig off would alter his performance from what he was used to and probably not be a good idea. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
