We had a visiting Japanese jumper die in Western Australia this year when he hit the tail of the Caravan on exit. Check the incident forum for more detail. I agree that it is not an issue during AFF, however as soon as you start jumping on your own you have to be aware of certain issues, especially if you are lightly build. Do you know how I could find that thread? thx! Angela.

Ear fluid/ popping...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Now ya tell me. . I'll not do anymore. I think i've probably caused my own problems. It started on my 1st jump Saturday, but I went again Sunday, it wasn't as bad during ascent as the time b4, and just the same on the ground. I can still pop them by yawning/swallowing. Valsalva is pretty much shot unless I do it way too hard to be a good thing (yea, already did). Guess i'll just relax a bit, and do the heating pad/flexeril thing 2night. Thanks for all the help. I sure hope this crap is over with by the weekend. Angela. -
This is a funny thread!~! Yes on the men with manicures for sure:) Don't think i'd go for purple nails, but, i'm sure someone would (just not sure if that someone would be female or not?, U take ur chances there. ) Angela.

Thanks, Buck! :( Man, I'm feeling pretty down about this crappy ear thing! I'm gonna go home and take a flexeril and put a heating pad on it. *sigh* Angela. -
Sux!! But, this crap happens to all of us. I have owned my car for 8 months, and within the past month i've had a flat tire (changed both tires, cuz it couldn't have been the bald one, right?!), someone threw a concrete chunk through my window to rob me for cds, and the month prior I was driving when a curb just up and jumped in front of me, causing my axle to get screwed up. I'm sure i'll be needing a new axle, i'll just get it when I get to 10k on this oil, haha! I'll show this car () So, in short,... it could be worse Keep yer head up. Angela.

Skydiving - How and Why?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to phonics1981's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just did my first 2 jumps last wknd. Always wanted to skydive, so long as I can remember. Guess I just got busy with other things. Boyfriends, engagement, breaking of same, buying own condo, setting up coral reef tanks, started college last year. I ended up meeting a guy not too long back, and we got together. Turned out he wanted to dive, too. So, I was going to take him for a tandem on his b-day this month... but we ended up breaking up last week. I said, screw that, i'm going, and I booked myself for the AFF1 7-19. I don't think there is any place i'd rather be right now than back in the sky! I wonder why I waited so long. Angela. -
Hmm I have seen the plane beat the last skydiver to the ground before Oh, so you were there, then? haha! I think it is safe to say that i'm gettin' the beer, k?! Angela.

When to advise SL to an AFF student?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to poohbeer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Saw the explanation, just seems to me if you are unaware, it would be scary to move on nearer and nearer to jumping solo. I don't get it, so, this was all level one? I guess I would just figure the way you named them, Jump 1, jump 2, jump 3, attempt 4, jump 4, jump 5... it seemed like these were levels, I didn't realize that they were maybe the same levels, or half levels, or whatnot. I suppose I should not have assumed, *doh*. Anyhow, you know what is best for you. It just seemed to me that they were passing you through levels when you were still not even coming to for some time, and not mentioning any performed/completed tasks. Sorry if I offended you, it just seemed scary to me to keep going up there for more stuff when you hadn't passed the former. Good luck with the rest of your course, tho! -
1st AFF Jump completed today!!!
SkydiveNFlorida replied to charlie225's topic in Safety and Training
Hey! Congrads on your first jump!! I just completed AFF1 & 2 this past weekend, and it was awesome! My awareness was good, On my first jump I also got the legs out prompt, and followed, but then they went back in again, haha. My first landing I flared too low, and was crosswind. I had to be prompted to do my test pulls on J1 cuz I had sorta forgotten them the first time, but then I did them. They told me I did great! Apparently many people zone out so it isn't uncommon that you did. Also, they tell me that many people don't end up pulling their own pilot out/ or rip cord. I'm sure you'll do fine. I sure can't wait to get back out there. I hope my ears will clear soon so I can go back. I'm praying by this wknd. Have fun & congrads!! What a great sport!! Angela -
Yeah, I just started AFF at Skydive Sebastian, which btw is awesome! Mik suggested that I come at least every other week, and the more often the better. I sure wanna get down there this wknd, but my ears are still bothering me:( 6 levels to go I would wait until you could at least make it every third week, but, then, really, I suppose it depends on the person as to how comfortable they would be. I was pretty comfortable with both jumps, and I don't think that would change in a few weeks as I had never jumped before and was comfortable. Good luck, Sebastian is great if you can get out that way, they people are great, instruction is excellent! Angela.

I completed AFF1 & 2 this past wknd. Skydive Sebastian (freefall adventures) did in fact show me the video on the first day at the end of the course. Then, they show you clips, and ask what you'd do, and whether it is a low or high speed malfunction. This helped a lot, imo. I had twisted lines on jump 2, and knew right away that it was a low speed problem, and it was easily fixable... and reacted accordingly. I think it should definitely be shown, never too early. If someone is affraid, then it is better they find out before they leave the ground, imo. Angela.

When to advise SL to an AFF student?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to poohbeer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes, but how can they pass someone through, say level 2, if they didn't even perform the tasks? On my level 2, I had to do 1 circle of awareness, 2 test pulls, a right turn, a left turn, and a forward. I can see if you miss one thing, or even two, but this person didn't get any of those done, he woke at 8k, not test pulls, no tasks, and saved his own life. The other levels don't seem like he's gotten through what he was supposed to, either. Is it really safe for the school/DZ to be passing someone who is not really passing? Also, why would you want to pass? The way I see it is, he's getting worse maybe because he has more things to perform, and he is nervous/stressed that he won't get them done, and therefore he isn't, and then they pass him, and again, same deal, only worse cuz really no experience to build on. Doesn't sound reasonable to me. I think he should ask to go back a level or three. jmo, doesn't sound like the best school. Angela. -
Ear fluid/ popping...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks all! Yeah, i'm still having some ear problems. It is not at all painful, but I can still pop them by swallowing and by the blowing through plugged nose thing. I took a tylenol cold, didn't help. I will buy some sinus meds 2moro when I get some cash, right now i'm flat 100% broke. I am scheduled to close on my condo sale tomorrow, so if all went well, I really wanted to get back up there this weekend, I guess it is pretty dependent on my ears not, tho:( Wish me luck. Thx and send my best wishes to the guy in the hospital with the ear problems. I appreciate the relay of info./ Angela. -
Hello! Almost new diver here (FLORIDA)...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Introductions and Greets
Thanks all! I'm also glad I went the AFF route. !! I am feeling pretty good in control, so I think i'm gonna keep on for now. If I start to not feel in control, i'll definitely consider the tunnel. Thanks for the tip!! Angela. -
Ear fluid/ popping...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks so much. I will take a sinus pill when I get home, and the article says that this can be done between 8000-12000ft, so i'm going to remember that nex time, though I suppose that i'll not really be able to do it cuz i'll have AFF training maneuvers to conquer in freefall. But, like last time, i'll do it when in my canopy. Thanks for the article, thats some interesting stuff, high altitude jumping, whoa. Angela. -
Congrads on your new job!! I just started AFF at Sebastian. I live in S. Fla. So, I suppose i'll be meeting you soon, then
