Going from point A to point B
MakeItHappen replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do you mean the attached dprime pic? It's only mirrored through one axis. The complete mirror image does not make sense. The 2nd example and your reply is predicated on the fact that 1 & 3 are the IC and OC, right? . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -
Going from point A to point B
MakeItHappen replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
ok - how about this picture that goes from point B to the top of block 14? (stairstep diamond to bipole) read left to right Transition A can also be split out into - both 1 & 3 CW - both 1 & 3 CCW - 1 CW & 3 CCW - 1 CCW & 3 CW No matter which way you engineer transition A, it is more work and therefore harder to do than transition B. But transition A is the 'standard' transition because it puts people in their 'exit' slots [P, T, IC, OC]. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -

Yeah I know D is the 'standard' way to go from point A to point B. But what I'm trying to do is create some sort of metric that assesses the work load or degree of difficulty of a particular transition - regardless of the standard exit position slots. If you compare those sample transitions, D is not the easiest one. Transitions A, B and C are much easier. Not all possible transitions are listed either. . . Bill, You are so misinformed. Don't know if you know this but Skydive Arizona recently won $6.6M in a lawsuit where they (SDA) claimed to be hurt by SR. The State of Georgia lists 363 consumers that were hurt by SR and required $128,519.87 in refunds. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -

Anything and everything on the web are bonus points. There is no obligation to put anything on the web. OmniSkore! did it for years because it was part of the system. OmniSkore! posts each score as soon as the judges confirm it. I'll bet the next time you see Camscore it will post automatically too. The live feed is GREAT, but I'm sure it cost Spaceland a pretty penny. There were a few glitches with audio and cuing up dives, but for the first attempt you really cannot complain. . . I can certainly agree that at nationals one ought to follow the prescribed protocol. The issue about the 'stunt' being outrageously dangerous to others is absurd. Stunts that would fall in the category of outrageously dangerous would be a chuteless jump or base rig jumps from AC. But USPA endorses those too. Why don't you ask Mr. Blow Job about his experiences on climbing on top of the fuselage? He seemed to do it quite well without any altercations. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -
Nashville TV News story on Skyride
MakeItHappen replied to BillyVance's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To further, from the BBB in the posted article: 'Kathleen Calligan with the Better Business Bureau said because these kinds of experiences are so contingent upon the weather and other factors, consumers should be careful. "These are high-risk purchases, with consumers shouldering the burden of that risk," Calligan said. "Anyone considering a gift of this nature should be very cautious before buying and understand that the elements may factor into the company's performance."' They neglect to mention the b*tch can come back anytime she wants when the sun is out. Look, SR has done some shady sh*t. That said, the DZs operate just like any other DZ. If they were to jump through clouds or in in heavy wind it would be 'look at that slyride DZ breaking BSRs!' if they dont for safety, you get this piece of sh*t article and you angry mob A-holes shout 'those dirty bastards are stealing again!' I have yet to go to a dz in nearly 5 years that gives a refund to anyone for weather conditions. The example they used in the article, the dumb b*tch went in november in TN, 'its only my birthday once!' Moron, it isn't a carnival ride. Come back again, or would you rather potentially die? I took my sister for her first tandem in december out here in cali and we were weathered out. My entire family made the 2 hour drive. Guess who b*tched and moaned? No one. If you had the first clue how hard it is to get my family anywhere near a DZ... Our schedules didnt match again til this past July, but we jumped together and it was f*ckin great. You people are so god damned bias you can't decipher between skyride, a dropzone, and the f*cking weather. "I fart in your general direction!" -Brett Those customers were not complaining about the weather. They were complaining that there was no way to redeem the certificates. . . So if you think it's a big issue then why did USPA republish the hang load I was on a couple of years ago in the mag? It was a centerfold pic in the middle of summer, but I don't feel like looking through the mags to find it. When USPA publishes something, it's an endorsement. They've published cover photos with people wearing casts on their legs too. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -
Style and Accuracy - men vs. women
MakeItHappen replied to propacker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It mainly comes from the historical legacy. Many years ago the number of rounds were different. Men had more rounds and women had fewer rounds. This is similar to the current rules in tennis that have different number of sets per gender and also to the golf tees offs that have the women tee off closer to the hole than men. It's all based on a long sordid history of marginalizing of women. Believe it or not, but at one time women were not 'allowed' to jump at some DZs. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -

I think everyone is making a big deal about nothing. I have done a hang load on a Beech and a DC-3. Issues about being on top of the fuselage is no greater or less than issues of being a 'regular' floater. The risks are the same. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -

2009 USPA National Skydiving Championships
MakeItHappen replied to Stephen's topic in Events & Places to Jump
The way it is usually done is to get a 'complete meet' (ie 1 round completed) in each event when the WX looks bad. So they might run 1 round of 8-way and then go back & finish 4-way. WX for Fri looks much better & 8-way can jump that day, but not 4-way. They could also hold off on 8-way until 4-way completes. It's up to the meet director. . . Check the SCM to be sure. Registration deadlines (close of) don't change. However, they can put up 8-way loads before finishing 4-way. They won't run both of those events concurrently. Oh and have fun, Andi. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -

"Partner protection" @ '09 USPA Nationals
MakeItHappen replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I still think that most of you are complaining about a non-issue. What Spaceland is doing is not new nor innovative. It's a throwback to the the Nationals run in Muskogee in the 80s, only on a much smaller scale. PIA was so successful with their vendor tents/booths that they created their own venue called the Symposium. Also the dropping of the 'boogie' part of nationals had something to do with that. The old Rigger's Convention and vendor booths are now the PIA Symposium. A reality check on what competitors do at Nationals is required too. Most competitors, especially the top teams, are focused on their jumps. They are not out there handing out bling. They are holed up in their teams rooms in-between jumps. Any distractions they allow during competition are usually related to helping other teams engineer a dive. A reality check on the sponsors is required too. Sponsorship at Nationals really is not the best bang for the buck. Everyone at Nationals already knows the top companies, aka sponsors. Competitors small talk amongst themselves is about what kind of deal they got from this sponsor or that sponsor. They trade notes, place as best as they can and work a new deal next season. Sponsorship of part of Nationals only makes sense if you reach the newer jumpers. Newer jumpers do not have a high participation at Nationals. Last year OmniSkore! added advertisement to the online videos. That gets out to the new kids on the block. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -
Group Member pledge about pilot and maintance
MakeItHappen replied to DBCOOPER's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I still don't see how USPA is doing anything substantial here. USPA is not calling up to check with the A&Ps or IA or repair station to see if the DZ really has their AC checked out with them. It looks like a liability protection act for USPA. "Hey - the DZO told us this" and we believed him, then we discarded the paper that said that. All I can see is "The DZO told us this. That was not true, so USPA is not accountable. Now that we know, we'll kick them out." Psst, Ed. The separate landing areas was/is not a BSR. But your phraseology really makes me think that you think the gm pledge is or acts as part of the BSRs??? You have to give credit where credit is due. Danny Page was the guy that got a bunch of dzos to separate their low & high performance landing areas. I don't condone his methodology, but he did get results. Deja-vu here Ed. Same old same old from after the Perris crash. The FAA's job is to make sure AC owners/operators run their AC properly. That is not the job of USPA. Maybe some heavy handed FAA types shutting down AC ops that do not comply is what is needed to get all DZOs to 'straighten up and fly right'. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -
PPL that have never had a USPA AFF rating or do not hold a current foreign AFF rating can challenge the course. It requires 3 jumps, main side, reserve side Cat C (the old L3 release) and a Cat D (old L4) plus ground preps debriefing, written test etc. All of this is in the IRM pg 54. It's too long for me to type it in. I'm sure if you email Jim Crouch he can send you the section. It's AFF 1.F pg 54 Someone in the 'challenge' mode would not be able to pass unless they are familiar with the ISP and had the air skills to pass the eval jump (assuming a competent evaluator that presents roll-over, spin stopping and pull for student, esp on the one jump challenge) . . Yes POE There will be an issue with equipment if you have a right hook as opposed to a left hook. Right hook will require the rig to be set up for a left side pull and SOS system. Call Jim Wallace at (800) 795 - 3483 FMI. If you are not in SoCal have your instructors call him before jumping with you. He recently got Chuck Anderson (the one mentioned in the POE article with a right hook) recurrent. Al Krueger, with a left hook, used the 'thumb post' to pull his reserve with a back up of the right hand. There is an issue of the arm getting tweaked such that the post gets turned outwards and would not be able to pull the reserve. Al is a World and National Champion. If you have a left hook, I can send you Al's contact info and you can talk directly to someone that knows all the ins and outs. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

That AFF IE ought to reread the IRM. Someone with an expired USPA AFF rating can challenge the course by doing one eval jump that includes all prep (ground & air). You also have to pass a written test. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
