  1. JP, your 'my way or the highway' attitude sucks. I'm glad you didn't get elected. How much Kool-Aid have you drank? BTW, the anti-trust policy of USPA that requires GMs to demand that their customers be USPA members will be tested eventually one way or another. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  2. I think some observations of the 2 pics Dave posted may help some people realize that they may not be considering all of the physics involved with these exits. I put excerpts of the two pics in my attachment. The red circles the elevator position. It appears to be in the same position in both pics. The yellow lines are an eyeball-freehand line drawn parallel to the HS from the bottom edge of the door thingy-bob. The blue lines are the view of the distance between the bottom of the HS and the top of the door thingy-bob. Now from looking at that, can you determine whether the AC pitch changed or whether the photographer moved his head? . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

  5. Craig, you must stop this accurate accounting of information. It's not the DZ.com way ;) Where was Alta? Didn't he have 2 locations in TX at one time? (er - not two locations simultaneously, one location then another - sequentially) And don't forget, Bill was on the USPA BOD. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  6. Were you a floater on a left side door AC during the day? You know - when you use your right arm to float (hold some force for some time) that your left arm doesn't or compared to diver exit position. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  7. The rules are silly. Recently there was someone who was night-blind that want to put in for an achievement award only she did not have a d license because of the night dive requirement. So she put in for a restricted d license, so that she could get the achievement award. FMI pg 21 . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  8. Ok I won't because you already know that. Try again with the Membership Services comm to get it changed. The last time it was requested, July 03 (pg 21), it was defeated. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  9. There's a tram up to the top of Sandia Peak too. There's a restaurant/bar at the top. There are great motorcycle runs out there, but this time of year it's probably not an option. Watching the river from the bridges is cool too. IIRC, Sandia Labs has a mini- display area open to the public that shows what type of work is done there - at least the unclassified work. Kirtland AFB might have something open to the public too. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  10. You now what would make a nice video too, would be to edit that sequence with modern day swoop accuracy landings, kind of switch back-n-forth. Landings back then and now are about the same. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  11. see Collision Course That article was written in 1990. It's my understanding that Dause's attorney did not find out about it until after some deadline related to discovery. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

  13. I don't have any need to print in color or print photos. So that's not a driver for selection of a printer. But if it was I'd make sure I could replace colors in CYMK and not one cartridge for all colors. I've looked into EM pulses - like ones from a nuclear bomb - and have realized that I live far enough away from probable targets that the damage won't be that bad. So feel free to send your archives to me to bury in my backyard. Fax? I've sent/received less than 10 faxes in my entire life. The new age is to send PDFs and have the recipient print it out. Nick, you are too funny. Actually all my depo docs were printed by my attorney and not me. I didn't even have enough time to find all the electronic docs, let alone any paper stuff. Lawyers love paper. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  14. Kinkoes is way down in Temecula. The last time I checked it was something like 25 cents per page. That is also what the PIP printing charges here in Hemet. Besides the document right now is about 20 pages long that I need printed out as I revise it over several weeks. It's not like I have one 100 page doc to print once. I did locate an HP 4L in Orange for $20 & one on ebay for a bit more. I have determined that I do have enough space (after some rearranging) for this printer. Most others are saying that the ink is very expensive, even for the recent ink jets. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

  17. Hey Krisanne - kudos to you. That is exactly the type of info I'm looking for. I have read feedback at all the printer websites. They are mostly new users of the product and have no long term experience with such-n-such widgit. Thanks Krisanne. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  18. Ok maybe I was not clear enough. I am looking for consumer (that would be you) feedback about such-n-such printer. Something like this: "I have the Acme Gee-Whiz-Bang Model XY29e. It uses (dry/wet) ink and it lasts for x many pages." Then maybe some comments on what you liked or did not like about it. Networking the printer - got that covered. Using third party ink supplies - got that covered. Inkjet v laserjet - got that covered - don't care Looking for 'Do not buy this POS' or 'go get this one pronto' comments. . . 19. I'm trying to go paperless, but the rest of the world won't let me......... Any input on printers? ink consumption? dry or wet ink? how fast does the cartridge dry out? esp when not in use. I tend to print 100 pages one time per every 3 years and then not print anything the rest of the time. I live in a hot, dry climate - well except for last week. The printer I love is my very old HP 500C. But the paper feed mechanism is broken in two places (a spring and the cam). It takes two hands to feed in the paper. If anyone has an old one of those - I'll take it. I have a Canon BC-4300 color printer, but it went through ink fast. Then it started printing a vertical line at the beginning/end of each line. That won't work. Speed and paper tray capacity are of lesser importance than ink consumption & dry out. ideas yeas, nays about printers you've used? . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  20. There are several issues of law that are mentioned in court documents. The way I understand it, the gist of it is, that the jury decides issues of fact and the court decides issues of law. There are some outstanding issues of law that needed to be decided upon. The case then is closed after those issues are resolved. Then after that appeals can be made. That is about the depth of my understanding. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  21. I think it means the lawyers get together and tell the judge "I need x many hours for testimony" and then the judge determines when that amount of time can be scheduled. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

  23. Battle manager software is rather easy to develop. The hard part is to correctly ID a target and classify as Friend or Foe. In the early 80s I wrote a battle manager for a laser weapon. The inputs were a series of targets that the battle manager had to prioritize. You had to account for aiming, lase time and the destructive power of the target. There was also a 'man-in-the-loop' that could override the battle manager. With the drone killers/robots, the communication between the live being and the robot is the weakest link. Signals may be jammed, but the way around that is to frequency shift signals in a way that only the person and robot know. The frequency shifting occurs on small time scales eg broadcast/recieve on Channel 1 for 35 msec then switch to Channel 2 etc. You have to shift over frequencies that the enemy uses too because if they try to jam all frequencies they block themselves out too. Frequency shifting is rather easy with laser communication devices, but for radio signals it's a bit harder and cannot be done as fast. When the radio frequency lasers become more robust and can lase over a relatively broad spectrum, the drones will gain tactical advantage. When robots become self-sufficient you get into the HAL syndrome. There was also a movie about a computer run home that tried to kill the occupants. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  24. The real water jump requirement was dropped after the CYPRES gained popularity and no one wanted to jump without a CYPRES. IIRC it was for the C license. I did mine at Lake Elsinore with T-10 main & belly reserve gear around 1982. Larry Fatino was running Elsinore then. Jim Gates, Bob Brotnow and I went over the hill and did a hop & pop into the lake. Bob later went in on Spike's Beech crash at Taft. He typed his logbook. Larry died on the Perris Otter crash. A few years later I had a reserve ride at Muskogee, OK on a demo. It was very windy and I landed in the river under a round reserve. The current was the opposite direction of the wind. The canopy tried to swallow me up as it went downstream faster than me. An off-duty cop pulled up in a speedboat and pulled me out. He wanted to get me out first, but I pointed to the PC that was floating and told him to pick up that first and reel me in. He was there very quickly because I yelled for help up high. The boat that was 'assigned' to pick up anyone in the water was nowhere to be seen. Ray Ferrell chased my main to the other side of the river. That's when I first met him. To get on this demo in slightly high winds, I had to convince Bill Booth that I could handle it. I told him I had never packed myself a malfunction, but I did have a malfunction on my 7th jump. Real water jumps are actually a lot of fun, especially on a hot summer day. They do teach you a lot about what to do if it should happen. The pool training that you get nowadays is nothing like a real water jump, except maybe that you get wet. . . 25. Suppose for a moment that you got elected to the USPA BOD next term. Suppose that this post of yours was quoted in a complaint against USPA charging USPA with anti-trust actions. Suppose that USPA's response stated "the document speaks for itself" Suppose that the judge later admonishes attorneys for using this lame excuse and states "In accordance with Fed. R. Civ. P. 8(b), a party's responsive pleading must admit or deny the averments of the adverse party's pleading. For example, if the complaint alleges, "A copy of the parties' contract is attached hereto as Exhibit A," the defendant's answer must either admit or deny this averment, or plead that he is without knowledge or information sufficient to form a belief as to whether Exhibit A is in fact a copy of the parties' contract; the defendant may not plead, e.g., "Defendant admits that Exhibit A is attached to the complaint," or "The document speaks for itself." Such evasive denials shall be disregarded, and the averments to which they are directed shall be deemed admitted in accordance with Fed. R. Civ. P. 8(d)." The result of such a sequence of events is that the USPA is still charged with claims that could have been easily dismissed, but are not because the attorney wrote a lame response. You become a scapegoat for USPA. I do not know where you got your information from, but some of your attributions are incorrect or conflict with conversations and emails I have from the very same people. For instance, Farrington told me that a group showed up one day at her DZ with SR GC in hand. She called up SR and made a deal to accept those GC - just that once. You also have to keep in mind that most board members do not have a clue about what is in the agreement. All the new members have never read the agreement. The reelected members only glanced at the document. Hill's attorney has a copy of the agreement. You are dead wrong on this account. I had been commenting of SR long before I was on the board. If SR didn't like it, they could have sued me directly. They never did. In fact after two years, they could not because the statute of limitations ran out. BTW, hate is a very strong word. I don't hate SR nor B&C. I don't like their business practices and they know that. Cary chatted me up at the trial in Oct and then I took the stand and said the very same things about SR that I've been saying all along. Everything I said in court & my depo and the +1200 pages of documents I provided in the SDA case would have been identical to what I would have said and provided in the USPA case if it had gone to trial. SR tried to discredit me, but they could not do it because there was substantial evidence backing up everything I said about them. There is still some more testimony to be given, but no court date has been set yet. I can guarantee you that everything I say about this is 100% backed by documents. OTOH, what USPA has said is outright BS in some cases. For example, from the SR v USPA complaint and USPA's response: Cary Quattrocchi claims to have started jumping in 1994 and obtained a jumpmaster rating in 1997. USPA claims not to possess knowledge or information sufficient to form a belief as to the truth of this claim. Ben Butler claims to have started jumping in 1993 and obtained a jumpmaster rating in 1994. USPA claims not to possess knowledge or information sufficient to form a belief as to the truth of this claim. There are plenty more examples from those two documents. You are dead wrong on this too. Glenn Bangs was the one who forced the expulsion through by violating rules stated in GM sec 1-6. USPA never sent the requisite notification letters to SR. Those tasks are done by the RD or EC. I had nothing to do with USPA violating its own rules. I did not even know the letters were not sent until the lawsuit was filed. That is because there is so much misinformation out there about this. There are people that don't know the whole story. There are people telling a story that is not true, nor complete. Do you know that Tim Butcher (the husband of Sherry Butcher) was one person that went around to DZOs soliciting money to sue SR? Now, that is anti-trust. He dropped his efforts after his otter crashed. Do you know it is against NY state law for the BOD to try and remove a membership elected director? SR is the one who was accused of deceptive marketing. I made mention of their practices in my personal capacity. How do I become the 'bad guy' in all of this? . .
