Verdict Skydive Arizona VS Quattrocchi et el
MakeItHappen replied to bbarnhouse's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Congratulations to Larry Hill and Skydive Arizona. They had a very impressive lawyer team of Sid Leach and Monica Limon-Wynn. Plus their staff of Lynn, Mandy, Cheri and Nicole. They were 'Johnny on the Spot' all of the time. Special thanks to you, Betsy, for the dog yard use. Steve, John and Emmet. Bob for the accommodations. Shawn for the updates. Kelly, Karin, Eliana & Andy for the chit chat time. More details later when a loose end has been tied up. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -

"Partner protection" @ '09 USPA Nationals
MakeItHappen replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I really don't see what the issue is. Their policy: is nothing more than a throwback to when Nationals was run in Muskogee and PIA (PEIA) created the 'vendor mall'. To get a booth and the right to pitch your products you had to pay a fee. When's the last time you saw competitors handing out trinkets? It's usually a sales rep under a tent. It's hard to imagine that competitors will start out each morning wearing 5 tshirts to hand out 4 to others to promote their sponsor. Is or has 'ambush marketing' really been a problem? The only thing remotely close to this are the free tshirts given to the judges by some mfgs. I suppose they are entitled to kick out a girl scout that comes along to sell cookies. . . FYI Omniskore has never been in the stream of capturing or recording videos directly from photographers. That part of the process has always been with the host. I've worked both sides of that equation and know who does what. Tamara Koyn publishes dvds of each nationals of the jumps per discipline. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -
Actually, Shlomo, there are people that said the Skyhook was part of the problem. If you read the documentation available from a FOIA request you'll see that the skyhook did play a part in that accident. UPT added a hesitator to the deployment to alleviate a problem with the skyhook, but only on tandem rigs. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

Just got back from Eloy and saw 9 planes fly over the top of my house to the east. Couple of minutes & they'll turn onto a long jumprun to the west. What's with the 'permission to dock' crap? Are we dumbing down jumpers that much now? AC formation looks great. They are about 3 min out now. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

For the cutaway handle you can put a twist in it to get it to turn outwards. Take it off the velcro, twist and reseat it. Make sure you twist it so that the handle moves outward when fastened. I don't know if this will work for the reserve handle, since it only has one cable. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

The original post was talking about terminal velocities. Introductory physics classes do not get into studying jerks, aka the time rate of change of acceleration. In a nutshell you have 3 items to adjust fallrate: 1 - weight 2 - projected area 3 - drag coefficient Body position influences projected area and drag coefficient. From a practical standpoint, these are weight, trim (aka body position) and jumpsuit. See also What determines Fall Rate? . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

ok assume equal weights and vary the body position . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

Whatever. The fact is that the explanation does NOT involve calculus or differential equations. Simple algebra and reading graphs is all it takes. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

I took calculus in high school. I took so many math classes in college that I had a double major in math. HS grad 74 BS grad physics Illinois State Univ. 76 with high honors MS grad physics Purdue Univ 78 with high honors Do you need an explanation on how to read graphs? . . ok Equal drag coefficients means equal body positions. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
-
yes BTW, assuming the drag coefficients are equal means that both jumpers have the same body position. The attached graph cannot be used to compare one person in HD and one person in flat flying. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

I provided a link that says it is true. Please provide evidence to the contrary. Edited to add full text of HR 3200: http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h3200/text Try this explanation http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/08/27/cnn-truth-squad-will-health-bill-pay-for-illegal-immigrants-an-update/ I think it depends upon how you state something about the illegals as to whether or not the 'bill' applies. BTW, there are 3 or 4 versions still floating around and they may be different. Wilson violated proper decorum, but not to such an extent that he should be removed. . . Tandem jumps into stadiums also need a waiver from USPA. SIM 2-1.J.5 Good luck getting that done in a day or two. Usually, it takes about a week or two. The waivers are not always granted - depends a lot on the TI. The waiver form is in the SIM and online. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

Whirlpool Washer Sometimes Fails to Spin
MakeItHappen replied to warpedskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Unbalanced load - aka clothes are bunched up on on side of the bucket. Usually happens more with blankets or heavy clothes or shoes. Redistribute the load and reset the dial to spin. The 'sometimes' remark goes well with this issue. Kill switch might be partially broken and only engages some of the time. Trying jamming the switch and make sure you always close the lid. Clean the dial that selects the cycle. Before you take apart the back side try rotating the dial around a couple of times to 'clean' the dust that way. The front of the dial should pop off easily and is keyed - like a stove dial. There may also be a one-way water valve shut-off for the off-chance that the tub basin (where the outgoing water goes) backs up. Then you can go start looking at the electro-mechanical reasons. . . Got seriously ripped off by non skydiver in Tacoma, WA
MakeItHappen replied to bigway's topic in The Bonfire
I did not read all the emails, but the jist of the issue is that you are out $2000, right? That is pretty much small claims court, not really worth it to hire an attorney. Google paralegals in the area and you can get them to file the paperwork. I don't know what the court appearance requirements are, but you should be able to appear via phone (or skype). If you use skype, your local representative would have to provide the computer equipment and connection. NOLO Press has several books that can help you in this area. Most (US) libraries have them on reference shelves. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -
Satellite View The dumbbell shaped lake in the lower right is Diamond Lake (SW of Hemet) Due west of that you can see Lake Elsinore (obscured by clouds) The two lakes north of there are Lake Matthews and Lake Perris. The uppers are still from the SW. Look for that to change as the Baja hurricane moves NE. Santa Anna conditions usually exist when the pressure in San Diego is less than the pressure in Las Vegas. The past couple of days they have had pretty much the same pressure. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

This has been bugging me all day long. Is this rental gear and are you packing it? The most obvious answer is to suspect that the RC cable is too short, as mentioned by others. Another reason could be a mis-match of the RSL to the yoke size. But neither of these reasons account for the problem not being experienced by others using the same rig and you experiencing the same problem on two different rigs. I would next suspect that the RSL takes a load when the main opens. With a Collins lanyard the risers should be cutaway when the RSL takes a load. You are not experiencing that, so either you don't have a Collins lanyard or it is misconfigured. Without a Collins lanyard you should have a tell-tale kink in the RC cable, except that a small deployment load partially transferred to the RC cable may not leave a kink as you would see with a full cutaway. My inclination is to suspect a packing error as opposed to something you do on opening. FMI http://SunPath.com Pay attention to the way the RSL is stowed, the main risers are stowed and how to close the riser tuck tabs. FYI: There have been issues about rental gear, new jumpers and hooking up the RSL properly before. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

We had a very good laugh at this at the DZ yesterday. If you're madly whipping your hookknife around you should be careful not to cut your reserve risers or legstraps too. As Booth said 3". If you happen to slash your spectra reserve then with a steel one you would have probably hookknifed the cable and deployed the reserve into the mess anyway. Maybe once you're done your mad slashing your AAD could successfully deploy the reserve in this case. Unless of course you believe AADs are unsafe too. -Michael You completely missed the point. Maybe you don't know this, but I work as an engineer that does hazard and risk assessments on systems that range from the mfg of the shuttle's SRBs to mid-air retrieval systems. Failure mode analysis is also part of this work. A severed spectra reserve cable is a foreseeable failure mode that may lead to catastrophic consequences. Whether the spectra cable is cut with a hook knife or abrasion from another line is immaterial. Don't assume that an AAD or RSL w/ or w/o a Collins lanyard will activate the reserve. There might not be enough altitude for the AAD to re-arm. The main might not separate and render the RSL system ineffective. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

Lodi During Winter Months
MakeItHappen replied to markovwgti's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It'll be busy if the WX is good. I lived in NorCal (Davis) for 10 years. Generally, from Thanksgiving to end of Feb or mid March the WX was iffy. Lots of fog and low clouds, but the good news was that high winds would kick up and blow that stuff out. Monterrey was generally clear that time of year. I did more jumps in SoCal and AZ than NorCal in the winter. But not every year was a total loss. Some years it was beautiful all winter long. Check the forecast for El Nino. I read that this might be an extra wet year. But I don't think it'll be as bad as 1998 was. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker -
You can find a lot of answers thru google. This one is probably the easiest http://www.dogchatforum.com/dog-urine-removal-mattress.htm I generally just use vinegar and baking soda with some water to clean dog urine and those 'grass-throw-ups'. That is usually just stomach bile plus grass. Car-sickness pukes with food are baking soda and vinegar too, plus a blanket over the car interior makes things even easier. Whatever you do, do not use ammonia based products. Be careful about using the peroxide because it beaches things. Usually dogs have pee problems as a puppy or moving to a new house. If the dog is older and has been there for awhile make sure there are no medical problems. Very old dogs may have bladder problems when sleeping. Then train the dog to stay out of your room. You can even train them to be allowed only when invited. My dogs are trained to stay out of the kitchen wherever I am cooking, but they can go in there any other time. They also have a strictly off-limits room. If none of that works get a water bed. Wash the linens and be done. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
