What qualities inspire your appreciation of your "favorite" instructor and/or mentor? As for me (AFF training): I have been most impressed with this one particular instructor, who.... When I was so concentrated on proper form, TLO execution and dive flow... Got me to relax. Not in the skydiving sense, but in the overall sense. His attitude toward everything impressed me immediately. His appreciation for life made me reevaluate my own perspective on things beyond skydiving. He is the one who suggested a more informal aircraft exit, without so much technicality. I was apprehensive, but he assured me that he'd be right there with me, and he was. After that skydive, he offered to do another with me. He stated the dive flow and I became nervous. Diving exit, front flip, barrel rolls and tracking. I trusted him and rehearsed the dive flow on the climb out. So there I went, out the door superman-style, front flip, barrel rolls and tracking. He was right there. Encouraging and smiling the whole time. Somebody never doubted that I could do it, and it wasn't me. Thanks man!! Yes, I know it is snowing. No, we are not putting the top up.

It's almost 2AM here (North Carolina). I planned to go to bed a couple of hours ago. Didn't get home from the DZ until about 9PM. I'm so totally happy about my four dives today that I keep going through them in my head while drinking beer on the balcony. I don't want this day to end...it has been so incredible. So, one more beer and a smoke on the balcony...tomorrow (today) may hurt but I'll deal with it another time (like tomorrow...er today ). Nice pic! I, too, enjoy watching A-10s fly (have some near here at Pope AFB. It's neat to see them crawl through the sky and listen to the whine of the engines when they throttle up. I think the aircraft is beautiful. It is a form-follows-function approach and it has proven itself. Maybe that's why I love the look of it. Sorry if this is the wrong place, it's sort of skydiving related and sort of not...I don't think it belongs in GSD. I've been keeping my skydiving venture a secret from my family. I was in Raleigh today taking a test at the MEPS (thinking of going into the Air Force). During the test, when I needed to calm down a little, I found myself thinking about skydiving! I remembered the guitar and visuals from Doc's "48 Way at Eloy" video (see http://www.manifestmaster.com/video/) and I really calmed down. When I got home, I finally realized how much this sport has captivated me. After that experience, I finally called my dad tonight (I felt like I HAD to tell somebody). I figured he might as well know about it, considering that I'm even dreaming about it now. My dad has always been superbly receptive to everything I've wanted to do. He was really cool about my skydiving. I found myself lacking words to describe it. I told him that I wanted him to try a tandem jump at Raeford the next time he comes down to visit (told him I'd pay for it). I think he might actually do it!! I felt guilty about letting my secret out, but, like I told him, it's hard to keep something quiet that I want to share so badly. Sometimes I guess they do understand, or at least pretend to.
