He was talking about finding the stall point of the rear risers as opposed to the toggles. Could be handy to know where that stall point if in case you need to land rear risers some day. He can also discover if the canopy has a quick stall point or is heavily loaded then you would know that it is better to chop it, altitude permitting. If you loose a toggle down low, it's nice to know where that sweet spot is, so you can land it with rear risers without stalling and slammin' it in on your booty! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! So. I've been practicing my arch again with all those unsuspecting students for nothing! Sky. I feel you, man. After 9 years and over 2000, jumps I took a break. I called it a vibe break. No spark. Whatever. I just wasn't right, and I knew it. Pulled between the Pro Shop, a new job, a toddler and a husband that also wants to be on every load. It just lost priority, and I could honestly not give a shit if I jumped or not. That spark is coming back now. Thanks for making me get up and do those AFFs by the way. But now for the important stuff.... ... you should quit manifest and come work upstairs for me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

The whole point of LP is to NOT HAVE THE PHONE ON!!!!! Have you ever noticed that when you go up to the mountains (where there is no coverage), it is so nice and quite, and the sounds are those of nature and not the constant BUZZZZZ we have become acustom to? My advise is ditch the phone. Relax. Have a vacation for crying out loud. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Would you put a student out on a Javelin under SB03?
GravityGirl replied to PhreeZone's topic in Instructors
JP, Slow down with the snippy or sensitive comments. You say sensitive like it's a bad thing. Anyway. Angelas comments are VERY welcome here. They offer a perspective from the non-instructor side, as opposed to the desensitized (instructor) side. Listening to her is what will keep you in check and help you become a better instructor. Sometimes I simply forget what it is like to be new to the sport. It's important to reflect back to that time. I went through AFF and Ground School in Perris. During our lunch break from ground school, I was told that the girl in the bunk in our room would not be returning for her stuff. Her parents would be there, and please be descrete as they just lost their daughter. Should they have kept this information from me as a student? Did it deter me from making my first skydive? I have no problem sharing information with students. This is not a bowling club, and students should be made aware of any facts that will help them make their decisions to progress in the sport. Just my humble opinion. If you present the sport through rose tinted goggles, you are doing your students a disservice. Okay. Done. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -

The last Boogie I organized we had partial sposorships on alcohol. The beer truck with 4 high end beers was $870.00. All the wine was donated. We also provided cases of non-alcoholic beverages like hansen sodas and juices for the designated drivers and those who don't imbibe. The cost of alcohol was a VERY small part of the the expenses going out. The boogie fee goes to food, added facilities, extra staff, specialty aircraft, props, set-up/clean-up, added fees for garbage removal... the list goes on and on. Bottom line is, the biggest expense is the aircraft. So non-jumpers get a reduced rate at our boogie. Non-Drinkers get non-alcoholic beverages. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! The jumper is a dumb ass for not gear checking his rig before he put it on his back. It is not the rest of the worlds responsibility to keep you safe, it's yours. Even if you are paying for a pack job. Your own mortality is much better motivation than $5 to ensure safe gear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

GravityGirl replied to chutingstar's topic in Events & Places to Jump
TJ, Your first home DZ, Byron, respresented a nice track sometime before sunset for your friend and teammate, Nate Gilbert. ( We had to start early, as the winds were doing their Byron Dance..... again....) We miss you out here TJ, and I have been thinking of you all week. Just wanted to tell you how much I have loved watching you grow up, and how much I still love you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
"HELP PLEASE" LOOKING TO BUY--NEED OPINION
GravityGirl replied to Duke6901's topic in Gear and Rigging
I would spend up to $600.00 on the container. The older Javelins may have issues with flaps staying closed. I would spend up to $500.00 on the main. At 600 jumps on the original lines, it does need a new line set. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
"HELP PLEASE" LOOKING TO BUY--NEED OPINION
GravityGirl replied to Duke6901's topic in Gear and Rigging
What is "well used" on the main. How many jumps? Where has it been jumped/packed? My estimate is as follows: Javelin circa 1996: $400.00 (has it had the mod on the main closing loop grommet area?) Cypres due for it's 4-year $450.00 (make sure it's the 4-year and not the 8-year) Very used Sabre $350.00 (Has it every had new lines?) PD reserve $600.00. (Has it been maintained over the last 10 years with regular pack cyles? Sitting in a closet?) Of course this gear could be in a lot better shape than I am interpreting from your post. So this is not entirely accurate. Perhaps you could ask a few more questions of the owner. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
