We had a pretty traumatic incident at Byron last year due to a wind sheer. Three canopies flew through the same "funk". A fairly highly loaded velocity with induced speed. A Sabre 135 loaded at 1.25 and finally a Silhouette 150 very lightly loaded. The velocity cracked and flew through it. The Sabre had a moment of partial collapse and sudden reinflation as it passed through it. The Silhouette unfortunately got picked up spun around and the pilot landed face first at a high rate of speed. (She is fully recoverd and has been back in the air.) My thoughts are that I would like the extra speed. Not from a snapping hook turn as much as from the canopy I fly. I've been thinking about this a lot lately as the winds begin their funky dance when the heat comes up. JP, If it crapped out on the way to altitude, and you are not comfortable jumping without an alti, why did you leave the plane? Just curious. And don't worry, if it was an AFF you could always look at the students alti. Do you want to borrow an alti or audible or both for Sweden while I send back your Neptune? When my daughter was born, my "Ex-Catholic Priest" Father gave my daughter her own special blessing. We discussed my thoughts at length and he came up with the sweetest non-denominational blessing I could hope for. We had a ceremony, where we as parents vowed to educate an raise her to the best of our abilities and we chose a guardian in the event of our death or disability. Jett is three now, and although we don't practice religion in our home, she askes about Jesus and God. Then we go collect information together. We have friends who are Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Pagan, and on and on.... I am really hoping to learn from her! She has the purest viewpoint. I think it was Dan Millman who wrote, "Sacred Journey of the Peacefull Warrior." When a small child wanted to be left alone with her baby sister, the parents were weary, but allowed it. I was planning on doing the same... though I was also going to tell them I'm boycotting Red Bull, and telling as many people as I can to do likewise, until the people they sponsor act in a responsible and respectful manner. Why on earth would you discourage one of the very few Corporate Sponsors to quit dumping money into your sport? Don't you think that sponsorships and Event Hosting is a positive thing for the sport of BASE? Wouldn't it be nice to have a legal day off a big bridge in Cali, for example. It's possible, and has happened, but it takes bank to sponsor that kind of event. Red Bull is one of the very few companies outside the industry to put money into the sport. Do you really want to blow that scene? Put down the pen. Get off the keyboard, and go flick with these guys, then sort it out face to face. Man to man. It's funny because Elsinore is a big Drop Zone. But if you have only been to Perris and Elsinore, then I guess it would seem small. Is the drop zone still opened in Hemet?
