Reading your profile, it says that your home DZ is Perris. The gear store there has one of the best programs in the industry for new jumpers. If I'm not mistaken, you can go in for a gear consultation and order appropriate gear and use their gear to downsize and use until your custom gear arrives. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! What is your body weight? How have your landings been? What elevation do you jump at? Everyone downsized quickly from student gear until they meet or just exceed that 1:1 wings loading. Then there is a whole new bucket of things to learn. Flying your openings, predicting the traffic, planning your pattern and alternates in relation to your descent rate and that of the canopies around you, landing in conditions you may not have jumped in before, etc. In short. Once you get to a certain point (you may be there now), you'll have a good amount of jumps on a specific size before you get bored..... if you get bored. Everyone assumes the forever downsizing these days, yet the reality is, that not everyone downsizes at the same pace or as far. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Buy a used 190 and put some jumps on it. It will not depreciate so much. You can sell it for very close to what you bought it for when you are ready for the 170. If you buy brand new, you take the biggest depreciation hit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Hmmm. I must be a control freak! As a jumper, I like to set my own brakes, cock my own PC and undo my slider before I hand it to a packer. As a packer, I prefer to stow the brakes, cock their PC and undo their slider as part of the service. Mostly because I don't want to break a routine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies!
