Extra control line on Sabre 190 and Up?
flyingferret replied to flyingferret's topic in Gear and Rigging
I recently sold my Sabre 210 after about 150 jumps on it. This canopy (and all Sabres 190 and above to my understanding) has an extra contol line. I have been told that this was added due to harsh opening problems. I have heard packers liken it to a tandem canopy in this respect. When I purchased the canopy it had a small rubber band on the lines just outboard of the extra control line. When packing, I bundled the slack in the control line (to make it the same length and the next line outboard) and then stowed this in the rubber band. That worked well for me, and I had been told this was common on larger Sabres. After selling the canopy, I have been helping the buyer out with questions as he is a beginning jumper. His rigger contacted PD, and they discouraged the use of the rubberbands. So I told him I would research it a little bit. During my time with the canopy noone even suggested it, so I guess this news made me wonder. I am just curious, and more so because some of PD 'advice' on packing a Sabre, if applied to the large Sabres will leave you see stars! Any feedback on this? -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. -
Buying a Wings container... Opinions please...
flyingferret replied to rhino's topic in Gear and Rigging
Rigs and Things continues to blow the doors of with Wings pricing!! Heather told me that they wanted to move stock rigs...no kidding. http://marketplace.amazia.com/para-service/depthome.asp?cn=64140&affid=&page=6&pagenumber= WOW! That even beats what I got by about $50. More props to Wings! By the way, I put my first jumps on it this weekend. NICE!!! -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. -
Obviously I know it can, but where is the line? I just helped pack my new Wings W-13, and boy is it tight!! Specs say a PDR176 (tight) and 170 main. I have exactly that in it...and it is hard as a rock. Anything I have to worry about? or just breaking it in? Just curious. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Or perhaps recent events made it publically credible? Edit: you of course insinuate that only credible things make the news.......hold on.... -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Kroop or 'ski' goggles? i don't know what to buy...
flyingferret replied to Kuper's topic in Gear and Rigging
I use 'ski' googles with colored frames. http://secure.mediafusiontech.com/aerostore/Shopping/ItemImage.asp?Image=130 $12.00 I thought about prescription, but intend to get Lasic sooner or later. A lot of freefliers and swoopers are using Gatorz with sunglasses straps, but I dont want to spend $100+ http://www.gatorz.com/ -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. -
Well, I am not a rigger, so don't take my advice as a safety recommendation. I am only 23, and I love b-12s. My first rig had them, and I ordered my new with them as well. They just make it much easier. When I land I just drop a leg strap and enjoy walking back to the hanger much more. Obviously you need to keep an eye on them, but I am not aware of any failures. I am not certain about quick ejectors, I think some military gear uses them still. I know one USAF and USPA Master Rigger that love quick ejectors. Anyway, just my $.02 but I love my b-12s. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Dude, I see your point, but read what I wrote! That is totally different then saying 'kept quiet'! Obviously these stories were not in the front of everyone's mind, so it has not been at the forefront of the press. As far as know beforehand, etc. I agree we should have had more indication, but... This not some case of government inaction. It was a case of middle level management making decisions about which they were less educated than the operators. Just average joes too arrogant to take other people's advice. It happens almost always before a disaster like this. Someone with the right idea just did not get the authority to do something about it. A real life example of how bureaucratic systems can cost lives by inaction. Michele, you are the most valuable asset these boards have had lately. Nice work. Looks like I just got Friday reading for work.

I was not talking about leaks, I was talking about focusing on news, misdirection, etc. Never mind, I need sleep more than explaining stuff. Ask Rhino, he knows what I was getting at. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Perhaps, I should have said 'wide-spread' media attention. Would like me to go back and edit? Besides the post which I responded to linked the pbs interview. Seriously, how many of you get your news from pbs? My point was it did not receive widespread attention. And perhaps there is very good reason for it? Could it be that the media, but not actually uncover news, but simply concentrates on what the inflammatory topic of the week is? Perhaps, the administration deliberately chose to focus on other things. Rhino knows what I am saying. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

I am absolutely amazed! If this interview was conducted in 2001, why did it not get any media attention? After reading this interview, I am further sure that all along from the very beginning Bush has known more than he let on. If that is the case, my hat is off to him. This would be a prime example of not letting the media ruin all intelligence by broadcasting it to the world. Is it far fetched to believe that Bush and his cabinet were aware that OBL might not be the 'big fish,' and were very selectively planning their steps with quiet intel? If that is the case...brilliant! -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Exactly, that is what I am saying, no matter which came first, youmight reconsider. Unless you are saying perhaps, this was a former hire that stayed dormant for a long period and then both occured after they had actually stopped hiring drifters. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
-
I am not certain, based on the news reports, I think that Rici burglarized the house first. But...either way is bad! If you had been burglarized would you continue to hire drifters? If your daughter had been abducted would you continue to hire drifters? No matter which came first, it does not make sense to me. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
-
The reports of what happened, seemed like "well she went here and then there, and then..." Oh well, I guess we should wish that all abductors had as apparently gentle intentions as that guy did. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
-
Yes, I thought exactly what you said about the relegious aspect. But the history indicates that they did not persay allow a criminal in their home. One of the people they hired burglarized their home. Not someone elses in the past. That would make me think twice about hiring a drifter. Although personally I think it would be responsible of my family duties to do so in the first place. Helping others while indirectly putting my family at riskis not a good thing. That seems to apply to the entire case, which is one reason I get a weird feeling. I admit I may be totally wrong; hope I am. Just seems odd. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
-
I agree with you Michele, I thought of Stockhold Syndrome. And like I said it is completely unfounded. But something just feels weird. Read the history of it. They have questioned multiple people about this, including several drifters that worked for them, one of which was serving a sentence for burglary related to them. How many drifters would you allow access to your home after one had already been involved in a robbery? -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
