Random old school Holiday Boogie memories thread
flyingferret replied to flyingferret's topic in The Bonfire
I was digging around this morning for some jump pics, and found this from Eloy Holiday 2002 (the first one I think). Anyone remember this? Other good times memories from before it got the 'dropzone.com' co-name? That was a good year! -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. -
Oops, thought this was about safety meetings... /me leaves -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Beauty of America, call whatever you like crap. Just accept some people might respond negatively. Just like a Dixie Chicks fiasco...a negative response is not censorship. Personally, referring to anything in a civil conversation is less than polite. But, lets even set that aside, it is incredibly uneffective. "I feel your view is patriarchal..." or "I think your view applies only to...." or "Professional have name assocation..." are all articulate statements. "Crap" leaves it with no more distinction that anythin else you call crap, which you yourself stated was a lot of things. So it is lumped in with just about anything you don't like. It tells us nothing aobut why you don't like it. This leaves the audiance to to assume based on their knowledge of the word, which quite literally means feces, thus inferring disdain, etc. It is all about perspective, and the only one you really offered was that for you to consider 'crap crap crap that you don't need' was out of the question. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

I see your point, and well put. Yet I feel you misunderstand why I took issue. For me it has almost nothing to do with her disapproval. It has more to do with how she voiced it. This is bonfire, and not speaker's corner and I want to be polite, so perhaps I should just leave it at that. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Now, that would be hilarious....take some totally random name. Or of someone you dont' like...and then annoy them all over town. Oh...the greatness /i jest -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

I see your point, I am not taking a 'guy' or 'girl' side. I AM saying that a person who says 'Not an option' about something they 'don't need' is operating outside what people like AD and I feel is true love. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

I like your choice. Love is illogical. I don't understand things I do right now that I would not have done 6 months ago, but I am happy and in love being illogical. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Well, I guess that is there perogative. Seems like a cheapening of matrimony. But that is just my opinion. In Texas, if that is the case, just live together common law marriage. Perhaps I should have said The whole point is choosing someone who meets your needs and desires so much, you do not want to live without them. If they do that for you, why would you not reciprocate? Again, just my opinion, and I confess I believe in romance, chivalry, and shining armor. And my girlfriend loves me for that, among other things. For the record, if she expressed a desire for the name to be reversed I would consider it. It is more the attitude that it is not an option that irks me....much more so than the final resultant name. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Once again crap in whose opinion? YOURS -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Vallerina's favorite word... A lot of things... The irony is almost too good. SO you are saying as long as you don't find crap offense, noone else should? It is all about perspective, Val, and you only have ONE! -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

That is a whole different story. Point is you already said the tradition was not importan you, you just don't want to change it. It is your lack respect and consideration of a premise someone else clings to, not that name itself that really says something about who you are. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
-
Fortunately, marriage is all about If you rule things out simply because YOU don't need them, you have missed the whole point of the exercise. Love is ALWAYS deciding in the other person's best interest. Love is a committment, not a feeling. And any nuance/symblom, etc that someone who truly loves me finds value in, I will consider. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Awesome, someone agrees with me. I love it when that happens. Dave and Morgan are magic, I have known him forever and can attest to the difference she made in his life. They are a wonderful couple, and only just recently have I started to understand how cool it is to have what they have. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Exactly, well put Dave. It is an honor, just like marriage, it is a mutual trust and love (which combined make lust ) The one for me is based on a lot of stuff not including the name. However, I would suspect that as an effect of those qualities she will take my name. While, not a deal breaker I think it is very sweet. Dated? fine, so be it. Monogamy is dated, so?! Chivalry is NOT DEAD DAMNNIT, and you are not convincing me it is. Additionally, have you stopped to consider how much work geanology will be with no rhyme or reason to paternal name consistency? In any case, anyone running around saying "Why do I have to, not gonna! The other one can!" I suspect has missed the whole point of the committment that raised the question. Dave, my hat is off to you and Morgan. Eagerly awaiting best man duties. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Agreed! I have not played it yet. But I went through all this when D3 came out and everyone was claiming the opposite..."Same old stuff" Yeah, ok, I think everyone on the planet knows now what FPS is. It is no longer a groundbreaking genre, the question is what you do with the pieces. D3 made you jump, especially with the lights out and 5.1 sound. So, the question is what does HL2 do with the engine? Is it a big engine demo or is it more? The beautiful thing about HL1 was the story/interaction/exploration. It might not have constant non stop action, but it flowed well from thoughtful puzzles to quick response tactical shooting. There is a school of thought that argues the success of any new FPS will be judged by the ability to mod the engine, ie the next countrestrike. While I agree with this to a degree. Initially, when you get home from the store, you want some bang for the buck. And for me with D3, it was 25% the wandering around interacting for 30 minutes, and 75% the first time my ass left the chair when something came around the corner. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Hmmm...I guess I better hurry up and finish D3 to play this ehh? Time with a gf seems to always win out though...am I selling out the geek way?

Well, I kinda like my wheels, but not extrodinarily so. There are some alloy replacements I really like, but $$$. At 25, I am paying off students loans, paying off the HD, and paying a cheap steel cage. So, my budget for upgrades is off and on. I will consider the springs/emulators. My dad rides a Heritage Softail, totally reworked with progressive and a 2" drop in the rear. It looks SWEET, but his ride quality is compromised. Hauling a second person is a rough ride, but then again, he never really does, and riding single it looks awesome. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Well, for the record I don't feel too bad. I respect your opinion, but I think it is a bit overstated. Perhaps some of this comes down to taste. I have about 20K on my Fatboy in the two years I have had it, and ridden to Sturgis and back, as well as Oakland and back (dfw here). I ride with any mix from solo, to full t-bag and gear, and have never had any major complaints. Now, it doesn't handle like a buell or anything, but then again I wanted a FAT look, and I bought one. I run Metzler ME tires, and drag floorboards everytime I ride, so I have no complaints about cornering. Again, perhaps this is personal opinion, because I HATE the look of external struts, I think I would maybe even consider hardtail first. Secondly, I like the low 'sag' feel on my bike. The FXRs I have ridden tried to catapult you on rebound. My ultimate setup will be legend air suspension. You mention white bros, although I have heard much better feedback on legend. So, all that being said, what would you recommend on a Fat Boy if it were yours? Progressives, 30, and emulators? I am not sure what the emulators do, I know the rest. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
-
What?? What do you base that statement on? I have ridden FXRs, a vrod, a sporty, etc. and I have no problem what so ever with my fatboy. I am really curious what leads to your statement? -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Well, I started to come in here and rant and rave about stupid WCC posers, but it already be said and Dave and I found the shirt. Anyway, on You would be surprised. I highly recommend you test ride a softtail with the 88B. Sounds like you would anyway, if you are thinking about a Springer Classic. I would rather had a solid mount counter balanced engine than a rubbermount anyday of the week. If you can, put them side by side at idle. Then watch the engine lope, and watch the mirrors. The 88B is an amazing engine. I run my FatBoy with an SE intake, Power CommanderIII FI computer, and stock exhaust minus baffles. I will be moving to V&H 2n1 soon. A buddies WideGlide with V&H 2n1 can leave me, but for the most part my bike hauls ass for a 'heavy' bike. Was playing on I20 the other day after a ride. Had to go around a Shadow or Vmax something, I guess he got annoyed, and dropped in HARD behind me. Ok fine, lets play. I rolled on and we were side by side through 100mph. At that point I backed off, cause it was interstate and I was wearing just a doo rag. I really got a kick out of it though....two bikes, ones guy on an import in all leather and a full face, me on an HD, jeans a long t-shirt, and a doo rag, freaking screaming down I20. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Chuck, do you know Wayne Keese? I was only familiar with the Texas chapter of the story. Bob Chaffin is still around and doing well, although getting pretty up there in his years. He just recently sold his place and moved 'into town' I think it was pretty hard for him, but it was time. One of my first student canopies was a Rascal 202. This came about from a significant portion of the DZ crew being associated with Chaffin. Wayne Keese used to do test jumps for Chaffin, and I believe broke his arm trying to land an Apache the first time. Bob Necessary used to work for McCalfish in the loft back in the day, and a pretty wild I hear though would not have guessed. I work with Wayne who is chasing firearms more than jumping these days, and Necessary is still rigging in the USAF. There are still frequent trips to see Chaffin out in Commerce. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Yeah, I wonder how pissed off you are when someone on your work network/bank/credit card company/insurance agency compromises thousands of names because of a weak password. So far Dave and Zenister are the only people I would trust to carry my data. Seriously anything less than 'strong passwords' can be brute forces, in probably a few minutes these days. You ought to try being a net admin. I have set of passwords for: Work servers systems Work routers Work desktops Same categories for home Fun websites Financial websites Hosting and root for my website Hosting and root for websites I admin And I don't write a single one down although I do guess more than once sometimes. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Yep, Jagger and Julie are still on the 'college' morning show...you know...they one that starts and 9 and goes to noon I don't listen much, as the edge has really departed from what I remember it as in high school and college. The playlist is as repetitive as anyone else. But I think the format sells. Personally, I think Clear Channel is aiming totally for the trendy demographic. KDGE catches that, and KEGL didn't. As a result though, the Bone's listener's have gone way up. At least somone understands that not all 20-somethings want to hear eminem over and over. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

You know...dave, some people would say the same about people using anything non-IE based In actuality a LOT of people still use 8x6. I cannot stand anything less than 10x7, but the majority of my office uses 8x6. And I agree with you, web design like most of IT is a tradeoff. But in its case the tradeoff is a very visible one. I would rather not be involved anymore, and just hack html 3.0 in my text editor
