what do you think of the 2kcomposites FF2
EricTheRed replied to Bryguy1224's topic in Photography and Video
Add me to the list of satisfied FF2 owners. illegible usually -
The time for solid state is not now. I predict there will be a good memory based vid cam within two years max. The tech is there, just waiting for Sony to make enough ROI on their DV cams before they introduce the next great thing. Patience. illegible usually

My brother in law has one of these (he's a wuffo) It's a great camera but not for jumping. The stills are great for a very small cam but the vid capability of this is not that great. It pixelates pretty bad on high motion stuff. Also there is no remote option and it would be a bitch to mount on your head due to the form factor. Keep looking... illegible usually

IMO by the time we create a true AI, our future as a species becomes rapidly irrelevant. A computer (or cyborg) mind would be able to engineer greater minds and the one thing that sets us apart from the rats and locusts will no longer be very useful. I don't think any terminator type scenerio is probable but I certainly don't think that humans will be running the show for long after we create AI. I also believe that it will happen. Don't have any guess as to when but I'd say that 50 years is totally possible. There are people working very hard to make it happen. http://www.singinst.org/ Edit to add: http://research.microsoft.com/os/singularity/ illegible usually

WTF? I suppose after the knives are all gone they will have to ban cricket bats next... What idiots. Edited to add. From CNN's article. Is it really illegal currently for a 15 year old to own a knife in the UK? That's just weird. illegible usually

The problem IMO is the denial and blame placing. When this story ran in Newsweek, the reaction from the Administration and the Pentagon was that the facts were wrong, how dare you lie about this and put our people in danger. That's a lot different in my view then saying Yeah, it happened, we fixed it, it won't happen again, sorry. The tactics that were used remind me of the answers I get when I ask my three year old who ate all the cookies. illegible usually

I agree that is weak. IMO thay shouldn't have run the story by the pentagon in the first place. illegible usually

Bush Policies Likened To ‘Star Wars’ Finale At Cannes
EricTheRed replied to Phlip's topic in Speakers Corner
Probably not. Most would be too busy clapping. The folks in the middle might just hear it though... illegible usually -
Newsweek did not say the story was false. They said the source recanted and stated (after the hub-bub) that he could not be sure. The ICRC was sure. They had issued a report to the pentagon documenting the events. The ICRC did state that after the information was brought to the Pentagon's attention that guidelines were issued and that this was deemed to be an appropriate response. To be clear, Having an anomyous source recant AFTER the shit hits the fan with a "I can't recall" vs documented cases of mishandling by the ICRC is a very weak case. illegible usually

I find it kind of odd that the tempest about this really died off when the Red Cross reports were made public. What do you have to say now? Who was lying? illegible usually

Actually they got slamed for running a story they couldn't prove. Different. Still not good, but different. It is good to keep in mind the difference between false, and not provable. illegible usually

I can say with certainty that the planes' owner was never bumped from any load that flew on any of the days that I was at the DZ. Of course I'm usually at the DZ only on weekends. Where did you hear this? Eric illegible usually -
I just think it funny that 30,000 + paople were evacuated. the work day of the governmentwas brought to a complete standstil, but it wasn't a big enough of a deal to actually tell Bush about it until he was finished his bike ride through the park. illegible usually

Forests? We don't need no stinkin' forests!
EricTheRed replied to Rebecca's topic in Speakers Corner
Nah. There will be a global die off caused by a) something Marburg like b) something bird flu like c) HIV d) lack of potable water, famine, something cholera like Just look at the population forecasts for most of Africa, much of which will be pretty depopulated over the next 50 years unless a cheap and effective cure for aids is found. \ Still, doesn't make much sense to cut the few remaining forests we have out here in the NW. Lumber is still very plentiful from 2nd and 3rd growth areas. illegible usually -
