  4. wohoo! yep, you were right to start the thread and post in it! Where do you jump again? I need to put it on my must see DZ list!!!! Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  5. I will not jump without one. Why? Because I freely acknowledge that I am an inexperienced skydiver and that there are things that can happen that are beyond my control no matter how much training I have or precautions I take. That, and it only takes one jump to end your skydiving career. Jump Weenie extraordinaire.... Scars remind us that the past is real
  6. Definitely belongs in this thread.... wow. Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  7. vibes and prayers to all of you at Finger lakes and all friends and family. Blue Skies, Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  8. Okay, now I'm confused. Now to put things in perspective, I'm a low-time jumper that is basically a dummy that just sits around and listens and mostly keep my mouth shut. But I need clarification here. (and I went back and read all the posts and that sure as heck didn't help). So my question: I jump with a cypres so I'm relying on a "toy" to save my life- You jump with a cypres but you're not relying on a "toy" to save your life- What's different between you and me? 9. The two are compatible and related no? Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  10. Last week was the week from hell. Seemed to never end and the shite kept coming faster than I could deal with it. Got a letter from the soon to be ex with our hearing date to make it all final. Then got a call from my sister in Germany, seems Grandma's been sent home from the hospital because they can't do anything else for her (never heard of that happening before!) Job was getting to me- I've been two breaths from chucking the bosses sorry ass right outta the window... Then blew out and re-injured both knees on a long run trying to bleed off stress and just ended up making more... Got brand new tires on my truck and one gets a screw in it and was flat as a pancake. I was honestly thinking, the way my luck is running right now, maybe tempting fate by jumping out of a plane ain't such a good idea. Even leaving to go to the DZ, I almost blow a gasket having to deal with Friday afternoon Boston traffic. I never wanted an Abrams Tank so bad in my life. Doc tells me I'm close to having perforated ulcers and I can feel them getting ready to pop sitting in my truck.... Finally get to the DZ - rig is still not together from my cut-away because of miscommunications, ah screw it, I'm renting and get on the sunset load. The ride up, things start to feel better. I'm doing a solo and decide to work on my fall rate and play with leg turns some more. Up, Up, Up we go. Check the Alti - 14,000!! WAY TO GO JOHN!! 4-way goes, couple of 2-ways go, then me. I turn to face the sun and this feeling of peace, awe and serenity sweeps over me. I take a few secs to look around, plenty of seperation, yep, moving off the jump line, do a few slow downs and speed ups, some while turning and damn, the entire time, this is the most beautiful I have ever seen the sun. The winds were out of the east and we were on a jump run that the regulars were saying is very unusual - only a few times a year and man, we were out there. I mean WAAAAAY out there. Any way, finish my drills, and have a few more secs to enjoy this amazing sunset. Pull at 4,000, and get turned towards the LZ, still WAAAY out there so I leave the brakes stowed. I get the leg straps just perfect, my flight back is into the sun and letting me watch this amazing view the entire time. The colors in the sky and on the ground are as crisp, clear and vivid as I can ever remember seeing them. I'm going with the wind and I am definitely covering some ground. Gonna make it back no problem. There is no sound, even the slider is being quiet. The temp is perfect - maybe 60-65, everything seems to be working just right. Fly straight into the pattern and nail the X. Yep, that's why I jump
  11. I like keen too. How about: Kangarooish (if you need something out there..) kickbacked? klutz? (but I doubt that...) knockout? (put a pic up!! ) Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  12. Isn't the definition of an accident something that happens because of events cannot be forseen or accounted for? If it's saying I'm dependent on the thing, then fine. I don't ever get on the plane thinking - I'm going to do this and if I screw up I got a cypres. However, should I get kicked in the face and knocked out, or hit a bird and become incapacitated, or god forbid get hit a plane, what ever - you don't know - that's why it's an accident, I feel better know there is something there that has the potential to let me do another jump. Jump (and won't jump without one) Scars remind us that the past is real
  13. My my my my my. Way to go! I bet she was imagining herself as a flying integral sign that had to go to inifinity and jump a secants bones...HAHAHA Good job girl. Wish I could do dat too! Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  14. good luck man. > Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  15. I'm with LouD on this one - MORE PICS!! I'm fresh out unless you want to look at rocks... or one of me looking at rocks...HAHA I was into that one - I didn't even know there was anyone about with a camera. The guidebook said there was pyrite in there...I think the guidebook was full of whooey. Now, the women's turn for a bit.... Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  16. I know. No disrepect to Lou intended. It was a standing joke in the Corps about how many badges/medals/what have you the soldiers were always sporting. Scars remind us that the past is real
  17. I've always heard the army gave out awards for safely crossing the street.... or any and everything else for that matter *ducks and dashes* Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  18. I think you mis-read. The depleted uranium was in a shielded canister so that it's radiation signature would be similar to a shipment of enriched uranium in a heavily shielded container. The depleted uranium in the heavily shielded container wouldn't make a blip. The enriched uranium in the heavily shielded container should light up the board. Depleted uranium in the container they used should light up the board.... Surprise. Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  19. Let's leave the air compressor out of it. I'm interested in self-induced compression - you know the type I'm talking about - in the elevator and just can't hold it.... Just think of harnessing that power As for potato guns, that was a phase I went through that gave my mom fits and my brother no arm hair. Somewhere around here I've got plans for a new type of gun I designed that, if my calculations are right, should shoot a lime over 3/4 of a mile. One day I will build it Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  20. If he did do that, then he had much greater presence of mind on his first jumps than I did. I was all about - "WHOAA!! WOW!!!! OMG!!!" Of course, I pulled my own rip cord so I don't know if I'd a been pissed or not - probably wouldn't have known it if I had not pulled my own cord!! Jump Scars remind us that the past is real
  21. YEAH! That's it. Great movie. I know what I'm renting tonite WOOF WOOF! Scars remind us that the past is real
  22. Right on! Wasn't his name Eightball? WOOF WOOF! Scars remind us that the past is real
  23. For me as well. Thanks for sharing. I know it came about as the result of a horrible incident, but if those brief moments of unity following the attacks could be bottled and were commonplace, the world would be a wonderful place.... Jump Safe and Blue skies to you. Scars remind us that the past is real
  24. geez guys.... You're living room is on a pontoon boat then. Whats with all the negative vibes man!! (bonus points for that movie quote too ) Scars remind us that the past is real
