I learned (in order) basic, asm, pascal, html/javascript, c++, java, php/mysql, VB, VHDL, matlab, more asm, openGL, x-midas not all really languages, but I think the progression is pretty interesting. (I'm not even a CS major )

I know we all know you can get the rig on top of the building in Los Santos and steal planes from the airport from the moment you start the game, but I've discovered something else. As you go on in the game you improve your flying skill statistic, and that carries over into better tracking and quicker draw on your rig. I made this video to give you an idea of just how many exits there are in this game as you unlock new areas and get better at flying. GTA B.A.S.E. (32MB*) *it's on a university host so it should download pretty quick.

I haven't had internet access at work for about... 3 or 4 months now. Not as big a deal as you'd think, but I do miss being able to google stuff. Now I have to keep a bunch of reference books around.

very nice. If you're not already familiar with him, I also reccomend Stephen Lynch

I mean... the food's fine and everything, but I don't quite understand the in-n-out obsession. Damn it all... now I want to go to the aquarium.

will there be hats? I dunno if I can go if there's hats.

When they start doing that, I think I'll start having a conversation with my imaginary coworker. I go to movies / out to eat alone all the time. If people look at me weird... well... who cares? But, think about it, when you go out to a movie or dinner with other people, how often do you actually notice or pay mind to people that are there alone? I imagine it works both ways, people aren't going to stare at me just cause I'm alone, more than likely they're not even paying attention.

A toast to this conclusion!

has anyone heard of notebooks4free.com?? real? not?

Call me a cynic if you must, but if the '4' in place of 'for' in the title of the site doesn't stir up some action in the otherwise restful daily meetings of your brain's "Department of Bullshit Awareness", then maybe some incumbencies on the board need to be reconsidered. -
This is the most important poll ever posted on DZ.com

I'm hate to say it, but between stickmen and corn-on-the-cob techniques, I think I have you beat. -
and just like that, the usefulness of a dalmatian's spots to its owner is revealed. "Lou...? Lou...? Where'd you go?"

I'd probably do best if the doctor shouted, "what's the over there!" and pointed off into space and then jabbed me in the arm when I wasn't looking. The little bit of pain doesn't bother me, blood (my own or otherwise) doesn't bother me, and I'm generally fine once the needle is in. It's the doctor talking about it what he's gonna do, or why he's doing it, or how it works, or the dilly-dallying around with the needle in my field of view that I sometimes have issues with

My withholding amounts ended up being kinda whack this year cause I graduated and started working in June. So I'm getting a decent amount of money back. Especially since I had income tax withheld on the cost of moving to California because my company paid for it directly, and it is considered income.

...she only gave you her situation.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to rag on you there. I laughed too when I read about LM dropping a satellite on the floor. I think that definitely qualifies as an "expensive oops!" But the Techoma Narrows Bridge? A commsat malfunction/loss? I think people are Monday morning quarterbacking here.

This thread is making me think. (uh oh) Has the "information age" gotten to our heads? Are the vast resources of the internet being used by more and more people to learn just enough about everything to be a critic but not really know what they're talking about? Is marginalizing professions outside your own the in thing to do?

is that a downloadable version of NASA's web-based java tracking thingamajig?

the first 10 million years, they were the worst. then the second 10 million years, they were the worst too. the third ten million years I didn't care for at all after that, I went into a bit of a decline.

Ok, ya know the plastic trim around the edge of our helmets?

you're sure it's not something like this? on my Aviator it looks to be that. I think you can even get a kind that has a small bead of adheasive right in the center at autozone so you just press it down and it sticks pretty well. maybe I'm missing something about what you're trying to do? -
My understanding isn't perfect, perhaps someone else will chime in, but here's my take on it. It has to do with Chandler Wobble. Essentially if you have a big spherical thing and you're spinning it, its net rotation is going to be slower the more wobble it has. This is because wobble increases the body's effective moment of inertia. If you have a dramatic geological event, you can shift the axis of rotation such that wobble is reduced, thereby decreasing the effective moment of inertia. As you mentioned before, without help from the outside, you can't change angular momentum, so a reduction in moment of inertia means faster rotation. Now, what exactly does an "8cm shift in the axis of rotation mean"? Possibly something to do with the diameter of the Chandler Wobble, but I can't say for sure.
-
That's why there was a shift of the axis and a change in the rotational period. Angular momentum is still conserved. My source is Aviation Week & Space Technology, it's in print or I'd post a link. They site NASA for the calculations. NASA uses spacecraft tracking stations all over the globe, and their station in Singapore evidently moved a considerable amount to the west.

pretty clearly fake.... Here are before (left) and after (right) satellite images of Aceh province, Indonesia. /eta: a few interesting tidbits... The magnitude 9.0 earthquake that triggered the tsunamis shifted the Earth's axis of rotation by 8cm, and shortened the length of a day by .0001 seconds
