as much as i want wo go along with you: there will be the moment when one of us (me, you, your buddy at the dz etc) has to deal with all the shit that can go wrong. if we as instructors are able to keep a cool head in these instances, we'll be able to tell one more of the "oh shit, there i was" stories, post videos or have lenghty discussions in here. if not we'll be the ones being discussed of in incidents to keep it simple: nobody is bullet proof, even if we always try to do things by the book The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

my wife had dreads when she started jumping. it was always some stunt to stow them away under a frap-hat and as soon as she went on solo-status she cut them of and never looked back. The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

They will only be passengers if you allow them to be, if you are so inclined to treat them like passengers, then that's what you'll get. I've got 5,500+ jumps with tandem students, mainly because I believe it is my responsibility to treat them as such. Considering someone a passenger and calling it a ride is a major disservice, and begins the slide down the slippery slope of careless carnival style tandems. Educating your students as to the full responsibilities and dangers of the activity they choose to participate in is the only responsible thing to do. When you hear your students say something "Time to sign mt life away." as they fill out the waiver, do you educate them as to the real purpose of the waiver? When they ask if they can do "flips" do you educate them of the increased danger? This bullshit attitude that tandems are a ride is totally unacceptable. The manufacturers say so, the USPA says so, the course directors say so, and the PROFESSIONAL Tandem INSTRUCTORS say so. Look at your rating card folks. It says instructor for a reason. If you're unwilling to be one, hand it over. finally a voice of reason from a seasoned Tandem Instructor and to stirr the pot: wouldn't it be nice if most of the "meat hauler fraction" forgot what they were trained to believe (massive brainwash?) when the first got their vector-rating? correct me if i am wrong but from my understanding there are differences in how to handle this kind of situation on strong rigs (coupled drogue release) and vectors/sigmas and clones thereof The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

as a side note: select your course directors/teachers carefully. try to learn from the best, even if their classes are the hardest to pass. shopping for answers is encouraged and once you run into a teacher of inferior qualities you'll know what i am talking about. luckily they are the minority, but they exist. as for the best path on a more psychological/philosophical level: never forget that you are the one whose influence forms the "next generation" of skydivers. with that in mind, your path should be clear @tombuch: what you said

so the general concensus seems to be, that if you are working (tandems) you'll take it up with higher winds than for fun jumps? yes, i have been in that situation and ended up landing 2 1/2 miles off the dz flying backwards with a tandem. nonetehless this is not my prefered way to do it. not to highjack the thread - but ever since i've been thinking how to correctly deal with these circumstances The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

//likes well stirred pots// no, í do not what to turn this into a rig-discussion, seriously. not this time. maybe, and probably definitely, things run a bit different in the states, because manufacturers are geographically closer, so the process of who is able to become a I/E is watched with more scrutinity. but here? i am fairly new minted regarding tandems, but i have noticed huge differences what my I/E taught me and in what other I/E's teach the next generation. hence my pot-stirring... edit 4 grammar/spell The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

/stirring the pot/ imo it was way to easy to get your I/E from UPT (in comparison to strong ent. who handpicked the people who they made I/E). my uneducated guess from across the pond: with the installement of the new rules quality of I/E's will go up /stirring the pot/ The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
