not to be an asshole but that's what i really love about these forums: people are concerned about stuff happening on their DZ - but instead of approaching the guys in charge at home (DZO's, S & TA's, staff, instructors whoever) and talk the talk with them they come over here and ask what action should be taken..... since this is SC my answer goes like this: If I were to immigrate to the U.S. i'd have to learn the hymn, know what your constitutional ammendments are, follow all the fancy rules regarding flags and other paraphernalia, buy a gun and become a member of the NRA, become some sort of religious fanatic, learn what the real difference between dems and repubs are, forget that anything outside of the U.S. exists and lots of stuff i can't even come up with now and which doesn't look very desireable right now. and before anyone stars to flame: this is and I know, that despite all the wierd, hard to grasp disputes going on in this website you are probably a civilised, nice to hang out with bunch of people btw: i voted for none of this applies

after following this one for quite some time, i'll give it a shot some seven or eight years ago (don't remeber exactly, but not so long after i got my licence) this chap turns up at our club. past 60, just lost his wife and wanted to fulfill his lifelong dream: skydiving. back the i didn't have any instructional rating, but what I somehow noticed was, that he was slow. not unintelligent at all, but slow. and a little bit stubborn to. I guess that comes with age. addidtional hindeances were problems with his shoulde and back - guess you know what that does or arching - so off to tandem progression. i don't know how many tandems he made, but somewhere in this process he managed to hurt himsef whlle ground training. took him another year to come back... to make a long story short - he was no natural and gave instructors more than a hard time an gray hair. tunnel didn't help much - tunnel instructors said that they never ever wanted to be in the air with him for being unresponsive etc. in real life it wasn't much better but each year he came back for the next ultra small steps. quite a case of being determined, when our club finally gave up he moved to the next dz where instructors just rode him down many times and finally he made a foreign license - after more than 100 jumps. in spring he came with us to the bedford tunnel - and big surprise - he flew alone - something I would never have imagined being possible. would I have turned him away? You bet! nonetheless he's jumping. granted: he'll never be on more than a two way with a coach - but what would you want, if you'd turn 70 in the near future??? just my story/0,2's The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

odumbo appoints Muslim to Home Land Security
feuergnom replied to skyrider's topic in Speakers Corner
That is a misnomer. Islam is a doctrine which contains its religion, means to govern and mandate of being subservient. Well. now, if you're going to use that broad a definition, fine; but acknowledge that lots of religions do that, not just Islam. Christianity, for example: That's just one example from one religion. So if Islam is not just a religion, but is a governing "doctrine", so is just about every religion. Talked to any Catholic priests lately? Orthodox rabbis? Spaghetti Monster prophets? Therrreee it is. I was wondering how long it would take to take a jab at Christians in a thread about some other religion. Less than a page. Solid work. Referring to that as a "jab at Christians" is a completely idiotic comment - worthy of Glen Beck, perhaps, but not intelligent discourse among adults. When you're done insulting our intelligence, let us know. thanks for the only appropriate answer -
if it came from somebody else I would have guessed you forgot to add the at the end ofyour post. but the guess is more valid if I'd state that I think that you are serious The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

most of the (western) euro airports were closed over the weekend, jump-operations (turbine powerd) as well. makes for a quite intersting view if one cares to take a look up in the sky: no aircraft trails to be seen anywhere

Why do you care why I care? He cares because he's fighting in the new class-war of "Noobies vs. Oldbies". The Noobs are mad because they get yelled at for doing stupid shit with low jump numbers, not even knowing how stupid their shit is, and the "Oldbies" get a big laugh for doing stupid shit, even though they do know how stupid that shit is. The Noobs want the more experienced jumpers to get chewed out for their equally stupid shit. That's my take on it, anyway. Kevin K. i guess thats just half the truth part of the "yelling at noobs" is based on the fact, that they want to have things by the book all the time without any room for admitted errors from people with more experience and they are still inquisitive (is that the right word???) up to the point of spliting hair. you and I know both, that this stance is in no way realistic nor productive (my humble 0,2s) The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

So provide us with the facts. How many jumps do you have? And how many with camera? you're working really hard on becoming the next jump-count-nazi, aren't you? everybody is free to fill out whatever he/she feels appropraite in his profile. real life names are optional as well. and since many - if not most - of the people posting in here never will get a chance to know each other in person there is alomost no way to find out if the info provided is factual or not. ergo: slow down grasshopper The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

and because you can never be sure exactly what documents you have to produce (read what the officials would want to see) spawned my question. last time in czech republic the security guy at the dz wanted to see papers i have never heard of The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

NYT: Doctors ‘tune in’ to hallucinogens again
feuergnom replied to Butters's topic in Speakers Corner
afaik that is thought of as a pre-requisite for any kind of tripping The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666 -
Austria: we don't have staged (a,b,c,d) licences, just one, you'll get it after 28 jumps after that you are free to do whatever you want though some dz's prefer some sort of RW-training prior to do jumps with other. most of the time a logbook showing your proficiency will be enough The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

NYT: Doctors ‘tune in’ to hallucinogens again
feuergnom replied to Butters's topic in Speakers Corner
if one cares to take a good read of the variuos sources related to hallucinogenic drugs it becomes quite clear that there is a strong connection between the experience of a hallucinogen induced trip and the way people tend to see themselves afterwards. - in other words: a trip (shrooms lsd or other psycoactive stuff) certainly changes your views and beliefs of the world and yourself. moreso if you are not the usual drug user doing it just for the kick, and it is for a good reason mushrooms have a long shamanic tradition - no wonder the modern day shamans (shrinks?) are interested in the stuff The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666 -

April 2010 Parachutist, rigid helmets for tandem students
feuergnom replied to peek's topic in Safety and Training
when sifting through various pics and videos of tandems (youtube etc) one has to wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to start with any kind of head protection for tandem students in the first place - as there are tons of videos showing TI's and pax' jumping without any sort of head gear The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
