Yes, they did try ...the night of the event. They looked down the hole, got the hell out of the house and that was pretty much "it". I think they had the technology and hardware to recover they guy's body, just not the will. Even now, after filling the hole, they could dig down and retrieve him. But my point was that we've recovered bodies in much more daunting and dangerous conditions. Earthquakes and tsunamis, mine disasters, storms, air crashes on the sides of mountains and in jungles and at sea, recreation-related accidents in wilderness areas, boating disasters, etc. ...all far less accessible and arguably much more dangerous to undertake. Here they had easy access to the site, stable ground less than 100 ft away, no problem bringing equipment in, nice roads, no time constraints, etc., etc. In fact they had problems keeping gawkers on their lunch breaks away from the area. But, this was just one guy, just a bumpkin ...and his family will get over it in time anyway.

Yeah, last I heard they were thinking of placing a memorial monument over the location of the hole and turning the place into a kiddie park.

CHILE 2010 - Mine shaft collapses out in the middle of nowhere and miners are trapped in an air pocket a half mile down. Drill 2500 feet through solid rock - RESCUED! USA 2013 - Sink hole opens up under a house right in the middle of town. Man is trapped less than 100 ft. down under a little rubble. Knock the house down, fill the hole with some gravel and call it a day.

If you really insist on mailing them, you can download any form or instructions you need from the IRS site as a pdf. Once downloaded, you can open the forms in Acrobat Reader and neatly fill them out and then save, print, sign, and mail them. If you must, you can print another copy for your files. Or you can just "e-file".
