I'll give you points for seeing a logic trap for what it is. Unfortunately, those points are largely overshadowed by the condescending nature of your reply. So lets break down your original post for clarity's sake. Shall we? How do you define success? Here it seems you are implying the possibility of the 1997 UK gun ban being successful. According to you a murder rate 1/50th of the U.S. is a huge failure if the murder rate nudges up a bit. Here it seems you are admitting its a failure yet arguing that it isn't a "huge failure." You didn't intend to contradict yourself did you? Nobody gets to see the alternative, you're left drawing comparrisons between different situations but when you draw comparrisons between the UK and the US while ignoring absolutely glaring disparities in murder rates which completely devastate any sad point you're trying to make you look completely intellectually dishonest. Here it seems you are attacking John for ingoring disparities when in fact the disparities make absoulutely no difference. What is being measured is the level of change preban/postban. 1/50th the murder rate John. If you were smart you'd envy that kind of disparity, but you're too busy polishing your AR-15 to notice, thinking it'll save you when it's your turn. I really have no idea what your point is here. That is a very good point. Recently I've been considering buying a shotgun or pistol for home defense. Problem I'm having is my brother and I share a condo and he's not an experienced shooter. While I'm confident I won't put lead into anything that doesn't deserve to be filled with lead, I'm not so sure about my brother. So I have to weigh the likelyhood of home invasion vs the likelyhood of accidental shooting. Without a doubt that is the most incredibly intense rollercoaster I have experienced. Last summer was my first time going to Six Flags in Socal since I started skydiving. Funny thing was that most of the rides I found "intense" before I started skydiving are now almost a yawn. Still fun but nowhere near as fear inducing as they once were.
