  1. Agree. I would like to see a little more requirements: not jump numbers but freefall and canopy skills demonstrated.
  2. >Airlockers don't open as consistently as non-air->lockers due to being more sensitive to uneven >openings and packing errors. Both my airlocked canopies jedei105 and samurai120 opens very nice (no cutaways). I did not have a single line twist on last 100+ jumps (on jedei). I would say that is very consistent.
  3. >I like the lotus better, stronger flair more precise >turns (but maybe a tiny bit slower turn rate) I think turn rate is mostly depends on break line length. If you make them 1-2 inches shorter\longer you will immediately see big change on how your canopy turns. So i don't think that Lotus turns slower then Sabre2 it most likely just have different toggle settings.
  4. it's not that simple. Other things to consider: canopy platform, number of cells, line type, line trim, PC size, D-bad size, and many-many more. With that in mind, in general, small rectangular 9 cell ZP canopies (like sabre1) opens harder then bigger ones.
  5. do one new thing at a time - jump your gear with jumpsuit you are comfortable to fly. Most likely your rigger can put RSL on your gear. This is smart thing for all new jumpers.
  6. thank you, i know it is all very subjective
  7. What you guys think of XF2 at WL 1.7-1.8 and turbulence. I was not very happy with original XF at very light WL 1.3 and then jumped Samurai and Jedei (no problem with turbulence or gusty winds at all!) but i really miss XF openings and thinking to get one next. So my question is how XF2 at 1.7-1.8 flies in turbulent\gusty weather? How it feels compared to airlocked canopies?
  8. i think wind tunnel is a tool. This is where you can see how you actually fly and make adjustments. I don’t think that anyone has to go there before they get A license. Students have different priorities (alt awareness, canopy fly and etc). But once you get your A and start thinking about doing anything in a freefall then tunnel is the place to go because it will take you so much time and money to learn same freefall skills without it. For me tunnel is at least as much fun as a freefall if not more
  9. your toggls will be at the end of your risers near guide rings no matter what. In other words if one of your breaks fired toggle itself will be at the same position.
  10. how you can visually verify that you don't have break fire?
  11. thank you for your response, very valid points! i jump PDR126 loaded about 1.4. this is not a record but still it is high WL for, lets say, a tree landing. SkyHook open reserve faster, that means more altitude to find good place to land. It is new technology so i was taking ‘wait and see’ approach but i will definitely order it for my next rig.
  12. >The SkyHook is a neat device but does come with >a drawback or two, and has many of the same >limitations as a conventional RSL. Please explain this for me. What are those drawbacks? I have never had RSL but really considering getting SkyHook.
  13. i think this is good article, but some points can be explained better, some are missing (flat turns? crosswind landings?) and some are just not that important at all. For example: why so much attention to pulling slider behind your head? It does not work if you have slider stops, it has to be done very carefully because you can induce a mal if one of your breaks get released in process and finally all that is taking attention from traffic, pattern and actual landing process. So i wonder why someone with 25-100 jumps needs to worry about this especially if benefits are so minimal on lightly loaded canopies? I would say that doing full controllability check is way more important then pulling your slider behind your head and loosing up your chest strap (totally unnecessary at low jump numbers).
  14. I'm coming, got my gear and everything, I'll be there around 6PM.
  15. That is THE BEST thing to do, but if you want to be stupid ...
  16. >I've been told that a lightly loaded canopy could be >more susceptible to collapse, even in light winds. yes, but they will reinflate much nicer then small ellipticals. My saber WL 1.2 folded in half couple years ago at 100-200 ft and reinflate just before impact. If same thing would happen on anything else I would probably break something. Personally I think airlocks is the answer!
  17. you mean difficult for exit? then I would say G,J,L :)
  18. Great Tunnel Camp! Big thanks to team Mojo and Matt Norris! Block 6 was definitely challenging for us
  19. Hey Guys! I just called CSS and our cessna is back! So I'll be there about 6 PM today (if weather is jumpable) and defenetely tomorrow same time. Hope to see you there! Yev
  20. Waw!!!! Great Birdman pictures! Elis, what you charge for the ride??? Yev
  21. crossfire opens very soft and you don't have to do nothing special to make it open like this.
  22. Thank you SO MUCH for this canopy! I feel like AFF student again and want to jump like never before!
