Jumping out of Planes other than 182s
CloudOnMyTongue replied to somethinelse's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've done most of my jumps out of a 206. It didn't have a wing strut or step to stand on so you had to sit in the door and jump. It was difficult fighting the wind and trying to get in a good body position. After our DZ had an 'incident' we got a 182 for a while. It was great getting to climb out and then let go, because then you were pretty much arched already. I haven't been in any big planes, but I'm going on Friday to a new DZ, that has an otter. Then I will at least get to see one, maybe there will even be enough jumpers to go up in it! -

Cloud9. I didn't see your post as a slam at all. Not that I'm picking sides here. -

yes I'm refering to that book by Dan Poynter. I think the latest version was released in 98 or 99. I hear it's very very helpful. -

I will take you up on that offer but not immediately, maybe when I get my own rig, you'll get a little reminder from me. -
I didn't know what a figure 8 was until I read this site too.

The skydivers Handbook

Thank you very much. I would appreciate that. Student + Skydiving = Not very much money -
When you take the program they like you to do it quickly. But I don't know about that quickly. Even though it's 7-9 jumps it usually takes more. But don't forget, if you make it through the program you still don't have your license, and your still a student.

The skydivers Handbook

I have heard only good reviews about this book, and after finding out my public library doesn't have a copy I was going to buy it online. I see that there is one that you can order coming out in August (it didn't say when in August) I was wondering if anyone knows what's going to be updated in the new version. -
Good for you! I get all excited when I jump to!

it sounds like you want to be self actualized. Carl Rodgers has a lot to say about self actualization. But this is just a psych student talking here. An easy way to help you start is to analyze yourself. What kind of things are you proud of? What do you not like about yourself? What makes you happy?who or what is important to you? What kind of people do you look up to? Once you answer some of those question then ask yourself why you feel that way.

Blue skies by Tori Amos Yes Tori Amos, it's Dance music but it's great, I listen to it on the drive to the DZ to put me in the mood (like I need help with that)

What equipment helps you progress better?
CloudOnMyTongue replied to CloudOnMyTongue's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So there are static lines, and IAD's and AFF's. I know each one has their pro's and there cons. My question is about equipment really. As some of you already know I've started learning on a round T-10, and that was only 2 years ago. I want to continue towards my license and I have been looking around at a couple of dropzones to do this at. What kind of rigs are in your opinion the best for a student to learn on? I still have very little idea about what technology is new and what has been around since WWII. Is the equipment a DZ uses a helpful way of deciding where to jump out of? I'm also curious about the planes too, my old school (PST) uses a cessna 206, and you have to sit in the door and fight the wind in order to properly arch. Once they had a 182 and I found climbing out and hanging on so much easier. Am I over analyzing this? Anyways, your opinions are welcomed. -
There is nothing wrong with a 206, I've just found other DZ's nearby with Otters, and having one plane that holds 5 jumpers meant that I spent a lot of time on the ground because of really long manifest lists. I never got in more than 2 jumps a day.

Is an AFF program still the answer? I've been looking at the steps broken down jump by jump. I have done everything required but freefall manoevers. I have also only done stable plane exits. As for the money, I have $2000 to spend. Around here (Toronto) an AFF program will cost me $1200 (provided I do everything PERFECT) It just seems that with an AFF program I will be doing steps 1-4 again. I'm just looking for the best way to get my A license without wasting more money. So the short answer to your question is yes I do have enough for the program.

I started skydiving two years ago, I went through a static line program and I was jumping with a modified T-10. I progressed to free-fall with 10 second delays (17 jumps) And then the winter came, by the time summer was around again I didn't have the money to continue jumping. BUT... now it's the summer time again. I want to continue in the sport and get my license. The problem is, now that I'm experienced and know a little more about the sport I know that I don't want to go to my old dropZone and continue with round parachutes. They do not have student squares and they only have a Cessna 206. I'm been looking at other DZ's and I think I've found an appropriate place to jump out of. My question is, should I enrol in an AFF program? or is there another alternative, keeping in mind the layover and my situation of beeing a starving student? Any advice would be helpful.

Just wanted to say hello. I'm new here and new at the sport. I only have 17 jumps, but the number is rising. BlueSkies!
