Had a silly day with the kids.. Pictures,. Post em if you got em....
Blahr replied to rhino's topic in The Bonfire
Yeah but... My feelings come from the fact that my wife and I are approximately the same age. My dad is 63, her dad is 86 and in failing health She spends a lot of time trying to figure out how she will get home for the funeral when he dies. People can die at any age but there are some undeniable facts here. When you have children very late in life (like Joan Lunden at 52) her kids are gonna be sweating her death from old age before they are even grown up all the way. Rhino is right. I'm sure the kids would choose to have their lives ifthey had a choice :-) I wouldnt have my wife if her dad didnt have kids late in the game. Its just a bummer to watch her dad dying of old age a good quarter of a century before I have to worry about mine. Barring any "unnatural" death, my folks will be around for a long time yet. -

Hope it makes her kids happy to have a mother in a nursing home when they are still teenagers. I think its selfish to have children at that age. Just my opinion Whoops! Thread drift! And now back to our regularly scheduled thread. Sweet lookin kids Rhino -
Nope :-) I am definately thinking of slider. I have been out of the game for a long time and the last canopy I bought new was a PD-190 about 9 years ago. It did not have a collapsable slider but rather a big square noisy thing :-) I now have a brand shiny new Sabre2 on the way, thats why I was wondering You did answer my question, thanks

I dont know if I'd go so far as to say that Trenton NJ is "VERY close" to Toronto Its about 400 miles or so which is relatively close compared to Florida. I sure hope they build it fast though cuz its only about 50 miles from me

Advertisements do say that all repairs on the FT-50 need to be done in France. Its a French product. If you live in the states you may want to consider that when buying an altimeter. MAybe consider the Altimaster III Galaxy. Similar price. Very reliable. Goes up to 18,000 ft

I read somewhere that a new PD canopy comes with a collapsable slider as standard. I have not been able to find any documentation that backs this statement up. Is this true or is someone feeding me bad info?

I sure wish Gilligan was running!

Dude, I have about 8 weeks before I get back in the air now. Heres hoping you get back up before I do! Healing vibes! Just dont push it. That can keep you grouded longer than taking the proper time to recover completely.

I own 458 guitars, but only 4 of them are real

Yes. Although I still disagree. Not because I think you are wrong. Only because I think you cant honestly know if he would do well or not. I dont pretend to know anything about Reardon so I cant say one way or the other. You may well be right and I'm not saying otherwise. My reasons for respecting Arnold have nothing to do with his big bucks or the size of his trailer. Its about what it took to get him to the point where he was in line for those bucks. Winning Mr. Olympia 6 times takes drive, focus, and dedication. Its not just about muscle and who can lift the most. It takes an amount of self discipline that most of us will never have. As a bodybuilder myself I have a small inkling of this. Not enough to compete but enough to know how much more it would take to get to the top. Most "politicians" know more about self indulgance than self discipline. I dont think he screwed anyone. I think he wants to give it a shot. Maybe he will do well. Maybe he will suck. We have all seen plenty of people that suck so if he turns out that way, oh well.
-
Do you have a reason to believe that he WONT do a good job besides that you see no reason why he would? Personally, I think we need more politicians that are not politicians. Arnold is a stong focused man. Came to the USA as an immigrant and built himself a huge career. I respect him, not because of his Mr. O titles or his films, but because of what it takes to get to the top when you are an outsider. He has it, most people dont and never will. A lot of things he may be, but stupid isnt on the list. I'm not sure what you base this comment on. Do you KNOW him personally?

We think all non-believers are somehow (literally) beneath us and unworthy

To sum up: Your husband wants you to quit for whatever reason. He is threatened, worried, whatever. He has obviously made his wishes plain and you now feel you have to quit to save your marriage. Clearly he is looking out for his own best interest and happiness. If you do what he wants, then you also are looking out for his best interest and happiness. If you are both looking out for his, who then is watching out for your own? Nobody I guess. That being the case, I'd lay pretty good odds that you will end up unhappy. We are each in this life responsible for our own happiness and wellbeing. Looking out for number 1 is not necessarily a selfish act. If you are miserable, you arent going to be a very good wife so its not gonna make your man happy either. Keep yourself happy and healthy. If your husband has a problem with that, then he isnt worthy of you. By the way, if he would ask you to give up something that he knows is so important to you, it wont stop with skydiving. Does he really know how important this is to you? Maybe you should show him this thread.

Same here. My wife 100% supports me as long as I dont fall for a "skydiving hottie" She gets a bit bored with my more or less constant yammering about jumping but other than that we have a harmonious marriage!

Which is totally valid as in my opinion, frap hats look silly -
Actually my current wife (not the same one as before) is a whuffo and so far is totally supporting me. She was ok with the expense of my new rig, so I think we are golden :-) She knows how much it means to me and my happiness is important to her, so she lets me do what I want to do

Just remember that what we "should" do is not always whats right. "Should" is a purely subjective thing that changes completely depending on who you ask. You may want to consider taking a little break from it and reassessing the situation a few months down the road. Hang onto your gear and dont do anything you cant undo until you are sure of your decision either way. Make sure that the people in your life understand the difference between taking a break and quitting forever so there are no misunderstandings down the road.

Theres are a number of threads that cover the wisdom of giving up jumping for your significant other. Most folks agree (I think) that this will almost certainly lead to severe bitterness and resentment which can ultimately kill your relationship. If the person that "loves" you tries to force you to quit an activity that is so important to you, how much do they really care about how you feel? This isnt a drug, its a way of living. Its adrenaline, its life affirming, its confidence building. Its so much more than goin to the bar on a friday night and blowing your paycheck. You cant just quit it like you would quit paint ball fights. Bottom line here is that you dont HAVE to quit. You have chosen to do so for reasons that you believe are sufficient. Only time will tell if this was a wise choice. It wont be easy and I dont envy you. I quit for 8 years for what may be similar reasons. I thought I made a HUGE sacrifice for my wife and I never stopped regretting it. I'm no longer married to her so in the end it was a vain sacrifice. It didnt save my marriage. Now I'm returning to jumping again and far happier than I was 8 years ago. I have to edit this post to add that I believe that FOR ME, quitting was a big mistake. I will not make that mistake again.

OK, if you insist And then theres the new and improved Skyhook RSL from Relative Workshop :-) http://www.relativeworkshop.com/sales/pdt_skyhook.html This one even works well during the aforementioned high speed spinning mal (and will be included on the new rig I ordered)
