? 3 things. 1.reserve ripcord/lubricant/stain, 2. pin cover flap is there a hole in it(1st pic), 3. what is the red thing next to where the reserve top flap connects to the rig at the yoke? The lubricant is used on some stainless 7x7 wire as lube/preservative. Nevertheless, i'd have a rigger clean it up. Preferably a Master Rigger.

Thanks Tom. I should subscribe. Always liked that mag. I'm gonna find it. Local stores here don't have it. Going to Barnes and Nobles.

I agree. Tell me more about tension release technique. I'd say most jumpers in the door do a bit of 'down then out'. You've probably seen student do 'up,down,go' on go they go up into door frame on otter style door and up into door/wing on cessna 182. Have seen it occasionally and it bugs me. Good thing George Bush Sr. was wearing a helmet while exiting a tailgate A/C. On go he also went up rather than just out. Is there a way to keep this from happening with a 'tension, release' type count/exit?

Would like to have been able to help your team last year. A young/new team cameraman can also have a great 4 way cameraman such as me to help get them up to speed early in the year to make theirs and their teams skydives even more enjoyable. Would you and or others be interested.

Back flying is fun. If you enjoy freeflying, backflying provides many opportunities.Flying camera as well.Keeping an eye on a corker especially. Back flying is good for chasing a corker. Transition from sitfly or headown to back is a 90 degree move and is easily accomplished. Going back to sit or back to headown can be easily accomplished as well. Varying speed in comfortable flight. You can learn it. Keep flying. If you can fly headown comfortably then you might take someone new to freeflying for a headown ride. This type of dive will usually end up with newbie corking. If you exited hanging onto their mudflaps when things get squirrly, toss'em like a pizza, immediatly transition to back to chas'em ,keep your eyes on them,be prepared to pick up fallrate if they recover to sit or headown.

Have any suggestions on AFF exits?

Look at the U.S. Nationals and World Meet. Teams pay out loads of money to train, travel, and compete all throughout the year for fun. What is the prize? Medals. Happy to have a token for winning. Medals hangout forever. Easier to keep than trophys too.

Sounds as if the effort of the jumpers was well worth it. Glad to hear you gained from the videos. Learning about the front riser dives: Sounds like you've experienced using a technique to save your ass during the landing part of the trick. You got the right idea in starting the front riser approach higher. Stabbing the brakes to get out of a low turn situation is a good 'save your ass' technique. Something else to try is performing the routine you wish to do for landing several times higher than your decision altitude(higher than 1500') while watching for traffic and getting into position to set up. While up high try to time how long you dive(seconds),and how many feet(alti) it took to recover w/o using toggles. If you don't have a progression method yet for adding speed to landings ask me.

Good points. Could there possibly be damage due to slider stops? Washer worn through tape exposing metal washer(slider stop). If so, i'd imagine damage is on the canopy side of grommets. Also would imagine the force necessary would be from the slider having slid up the lines during the deployment, banging into slider stops at a high rate. Suggestion: carefully place slider up at slider stops and physically see if the dent/hole matches like a puzzle to the slider stop. Curious.

Ya , your right about spanish cedar, very aromatic. I'd think the cedar smell would cover up the smoke smell too. Not necessarily remove the smell from canopy. Smoke tar really sticks to things. Hell, maybe enough smoke tar on canopy would make an F111 canopy like ZP!

Contacts or glasses to jump?
CrazyL replied to virginflyer3's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Contacts. Tried many. Acuvue 2 seem to work best for me. Acuvue 2 contact material is firm, it bends, doesnt 'wrinkle/wad up'. Has a bit larger diameter than in the past and tapered edge so that eyelid doesnt kick them out as easily also. Have learned a few tricks in keeping them in during unusual circumstances as well, like squinting. Also surf in the ocean w/ contacts. -
Hmm. Cedar chips smell great too. Do you think the cedar chips absorb smells as well, like baking soda does in a fridge? Have you really tried that? Cedar chips would overpower the smoke smell i'd think.

luckily no SPLAT sound. Ever here the adage 'if you heard the gunshot, your not dead'. Similar to this occurance except bullets were flying bodies.

Hence kicking off shoe. (2 out)Have had this conversation many times with jumpers. How do you become prepared physically? How do the parachutes react? What to do/not to do? Etc... Have visited w/ instructors, crw dogs. Being that ground training is somewhat hypothetical, performing CRW 2 stack/biplane/side by side/downplane is learning how 2 canopies fly similar to 2 out, physically. Dangerous , yes. Have you ever wondered yourself, what you'd do w/2 out? The scenarios? Ever done CRW/downplane? If you have done intentional downplane, do you feel better skilled and prepared for incidental 2 out? I do.
-
Ever seen CRW dogs separate from a downplane? Usually a shoe flies off as the separation occurs!
-
One will know once separating from downplane
-
Perfect timing to kick off shoe is as the canopies separate.

Cover your slot too? That's awesome! Should be very easy to get on a team. That's the best situation for a team. 99% of teams that I know and have been around would much rather have a cameraman that has little or no experience that pays his/her own way rather than pay a seasoned veteran cameraflier.

Forget the old days. Scary Stories From Today!
CrazyL replied to GreenLight's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Alright here goes, this past weekend as 2 otters had landed and had taxi'd to the loading area to load, a student canopy. Hold on a minute. There was about one otters distance between the two otters. As this student canopy. was travelling toward the 4 spinning props. I was in a parking lot looking sort of down hill towards the 2 otters which were almost looking straight at me as this student canopy which i'm seeing a side view of, is headed right for disaster. Wanted to look away but could'nt. Hoping the student was going to turn while still high enough to survive and miss the props. Well the student did'nt turn away. Instead , the student flew the parachute directly in between the two running otters, an up jumper ran between the otters grabbed the student and drug the student to a safer area. Too much entertainment, student was referred to bowling alley for lessons other than skydiving. -
Take your pic. I really liked Kauai. Stayed in rented condos, one trip 9 day stay was in Poip'u . Next trip was within 2 weeks ' had to go back ' feeling. 9 days condo in Princeville at Poli Kai Kua. Old island, hikes, views, freshest air, waterfalls, excellent food especially at the Honalei Dolphin in Hanalei. Whatever you do, go to Barnes and Nobles and look for a book called Kauai Secrets Revealed blue in color, absolute necessity on the trip. There may be similar 'Secrets Revealed' books for the other islands as well. Worth checking out while your planning the trip.

Ya them too. Some of them anyway. Rumor has it that some of the canopies had brown spots on them from all the shit in the air from a few that shit themselves. Freaky wicked incredible sound, better than Dolby Surround Sound.

hehehehahahahah Yep! Jump the stink out of it!

Yes assymetry is a cause of 'turn'. Had come across a Harness that when inspected the MLW showed signs of assymetry. Found extra padding under the mudflap on one side between the wearers side and 4 pt by 3 ring, under 3 ring area. Notified customer, he previously jumped and corrected for turn numerous times. Ask jumper about extra padding and assymetrical harness. Took out extra pad, back to straight flight, little bit less comfy due to the cutaway cable housing.

Sell it. Contact the manufacturer.
