  1. Hahaha, There is something to be said for using a reputable skydiving gear dealer. 2 words, customer service. If you had used one, you would then have a real live person to harp on till you recieve your goods. Some have already been through the troubles with certain equipment mfr's and already know who they can get good service from. Good luck. Would you like a Bonehead helmet within 24 hrs.? Call your home DZ gear dealer, if they can't help you then call the ranch pro shop maybe they can help.

  3. Yep. me too. and i've seen and reassembled way too many PD Reserve brake lines putting them to spec. is it just me.
  4. hehehehehahahahaha, then my second static line jump was the first headown in contr, well maybe not in control but none the less i was headown flying free for at least a second till the parachute saved me.

Was just relining my canopy tonight , as I was putting on rpide links and silicone bumpers, 3 riggers and a few jumpers gave me shit about not installing slinks. 2 reasons, 1. redundancy which saved the fella who started this thread. 2. line twists tend to stop at the connector links as long as their bulky enough, of course too bulky sucks. I'm talking # 3.5's. Soft links taper nicely allowing the slider to go past the links easily and line twists as well. If a soft link fails , the jumper would know as soon as it happened.

  7. Erica H, do you have chest rings on your Mirage? If so, the chest ring allows more flex and hinge than a harness without chest rings. in my opinion from what i've seen chest rings on a mirage for small to medium ladies is not so good, because of the problem you described. There is a fix. have mirage systems make your harness without chest rings. What you mentioned about the yoke also possible.
  8. Is John C. a rigger too? How much did he buy that rig for? i'd bet he got atleast 35% off. He also told a buddy that the worst thing for your lines is to daisy chain them. I still have'nt figured that out. What do you think?

  11. This thread pretty much answers the slider bumper question. I have a question to add. Why do i continue to find PD reserves with rapide links that have webbing bumpers rather than the silicone bumpers that were supplied with the reserve canopy? Sure they will do similar job and as good as the supplied ones, but...What's the right thing to do according to the FAA? And what the heck is homey doing with the stock of PD silicone bumpers?
  12. Hi, You have good concerns about jumping a camera. I started jumping a camera helmet back in 1994 and am on my ninth camera helmet. I can help you to understand. 1st, read the most current SIM (Skydivers Information Manual) for USPA's advice for camera flying. 2nd, understand your spine and how it compresses. Have you ever seen a spine model? By having a little understanding of what positions are ideal for your spine during opening shock and what positions are less ideal for your spine during opening shock, may help prevent injury/ or injure you more often. I have used side mounts and prefer top mount for less injury. Good luck.
  13. Sounds like fun. I have also been a rider of such a device. We used a much longer rope, I felt a little safer with the extra height.Similar set up with vehicle and PC. Urban legend: Parasail is rigged with trash can for suspended weight and a place for the single parachute system jumper to sit. Parasail reaches height of approx 300ft. Jumper falls off trash can, deploys parachute ,lands safely on the beach. Was'nt me.
  14. Yur Nuts!!!!! Skydiving is safer, it's those low to the ground sports that hurt the most, including parasailing. Ever seen a round with vents in it hook it into the ground? There are more than a few jumpers whove done the vent mod, trim, risers, harness and rigged with new rope, old rope, and towed with car, van, truck, boat, with round and square. The risk of injury or death of the rider will be really high.
  15. Yes young rabbit. Everything in your post is right. Now, to help you understand: The cutaway cables have a long side and a short side. The long side routes from the right side harness(cutaway handle) around the back of the neck (through the yoke) and exits nearest the mudflap on the left side. The long side cable is more than likely longer than the distance that you can pull the cutaway handle thus leaving some cable in the housing once you have cutaway. When you cutaway did you observe how much distance your hand travels with the cutaway handle when the cables release the 3 rings?
  16. I'm glad to hear that you followed manufacturers instructions. Being a rigger that has assembled many a canopy to risers, there are a couple of basics on each and every assembly. As for the steering lines as you probably already know, a knot or stitch in a fingertrapped line will secure the loop from releasing. The loop then is installed onto the toggle through the grommet on the toggle and then over the long (handle) end of the toggle. It's pretty easy to get it right and it is just as easy to get it wrong. Just be good at it bro!
  17. If you've ever jumped in really cold times your hands got sooo cold that they lose dexterity/ grip strength. Having a pull out pc,soft pillow reserve handle, not a good idea.Havea D ring reserve handle in really really cold environments where you know your hands will freeze because you don't want to wear too bulky gloves, good AAD as a backup. If there is snow, depth perception can be way off. As far as flying the canopy, it'll fly crisp and clean like the air. It'll feel like it has more performance, more glide/lift. As far as flaring, it's the same at sea level as it is 5,000ft as 14,000 ft, cold or hot. Flare just before you hit the earth. About 20'ft off the ground your ready to flare, by the time your feet are 2ft off the ground your right in the middle of the flare ready to finish off the landing flare. Like I said your canopy might feel like it has more performance. It'll feell good, Have a good time!
  18. If you would like a main inspection done by a qaulified parachute rigger PM me, or send it back to the manufacturer for a main inspection. The manual for your canopy and/or container will have instructions for the assembly of the canopy to risers, most manuals can be found online if you don't have the manuals. Any way, if I were you i'd have the local most knowlegable/ current parachute rigger check your gear.Parachute Rigger is what your looking for, not packer, not gear sales, not manifestor, not boyfriend, Parachute Rigger. Assembly of parachute to risers is easy, it is also easy to assemble brake lines to toggles in a manner that can be downright deadly.
  19. What a simple mistake. Did a rigger assemble his main? If so, why are they a rigger? Arghhh!!@#$% Another Q: would you go for the reserve in his scenario? I'd treat it as if I were flying a micro raven 120 reserve and land it in the pond! Really.
  20. Are you kidding me about the strap? Don't even be putting the death strap around the canopy, use some other tool that if packed in the rig the parachute will still open. Even as a rigger I had learned to use a strap tool for packing, I quickly learned that the 2" STRAP TOOL tool is NOT welcomed IN MY RIGGERS KIT. Tell the fella to find another way bro.

  23. Hey Jerry,I enjoyed reading your 2cents worth. getting a little carried away up there on that soap box!! Easy now, breath in slowly, etc... You got carried away when you mentioned back/seat/chest/nuts. I think they should add a 'nuts' rating and remove lap. I know of many people who deal with parachutes that could qualify as 'Master Nuts'. Anyway, i'm a Back/Seat rated Master Rigger. Having learned the many different types of Seat rigs out there, i'd rather the requirements for the rating require more packs with more than 7 different makes and models. They are not like back types. Hell nowadays there should be a rating for rounds and a seperate for squares. Remember when most all canopies were attached to risers with a Rapide link, and to assemble the reserve canopy to the risers a rigger was required to be a Master Rigger? How many different types of connector links are there nowadays? So many combinations of gear . On another note, just the other day I grounded a rig that had been jumped since 1996 because the harness was constructed improperly at the 4 pt under the mud flap.The rig had been inspected and packed 17 times. The manufacturer had it there and back within the week.Glad I learned from some of the old old farts. Thanks for your 2 cents , Larry
