O.k. this is just sad and nuts, what happened to the good old days?
tbrown replied to shortyj's topic in The Bonfire
I used to go along as a parent volunteer on some of my kids' school field trips and had to go through the background checks. Never had to pay though. BUT they do cost somebody money somewhere along the line and if your school district doesn't budget for that kind of thing, then guess who ? Our younger daughter went through a really great public HS in California, but for her to play in band and to belong to the Academy for Performing Arts program, it cost us all kinds of extra money. It's just not in the tax supported budget. I even worked a couple bingo games, selling pull tabs to these geeks and bitches who came out on Tuesday nights with obscene amounts of cash. Honestly, it was worse than a bad acid trip, but every time I worked one, I knew it was making money for the school programs - and knocking "x many" dollars off our bill for our kid. Education, even a public one, ain't free. Which sucks, but that's the way it is. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -

Kindergarten kid suspended from school for...
tbrown replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
Uh yeah, that's putting it mildy. WHERE'S THE FUCKING OUTRAGE ?!? A SIX YEAR OLD KID IS SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL (i.e. punished) for a haircut his parents gave him and that he doesn't even understand ??????????????????? What the fucking fuck !!! Doesn't anybody realize this is the typical behavior of ASSHOLE school administrators, whose ONLY mission in life is to impose their control over children who can't fight back ? Jesus H Christ, I'd sue the cocksuckers...... Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
Bill, it's the same old Bush bribe. When the going gets tough, Bush bribes the voters with another paltry giveaway. Well, paltry to us anyway, I don't know about your income level, but mine's not in the league W inhabits. His crowd gets an even bigger bribe. Either way, it's worked before - he got re-elected, din't he ?? So one more bribe to shut the voters the fuck up until he has a chance to skip town in January......... I'm a little taken aback at some of the cynicism on display in SOME of these posts, especially the moderator, and I don't care HOW long he's served. I'm no fan of the royal family, preferring to to think of the bunch as "royal rotters". But every so often some of the younger ones TRY to break out of the mold, whether it's performing in a dance troup or serving their country in the Navy or the Army. I remember the reports of Andrew flying Exocet decoy sorties in the Falklands war, when the Argentines actually managed to sink SEVERAL British ships with the damned things. And now Harry is TRYING to serve with his men, has tried anyway, in both Iraq and Afghanistan. And all the blowhards, Green or not can do is blow back a lot of cynicism about a good kid who's trying to be his own man. Well right on Harry and fuck the rest of you ! I'll pray for all of your friends, what an awful day. Soundslike it's been hard on you too, even though you're out on the periphery of these events. So I'll toss in a prayer for you too. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Maybe the secretary had to reach to answer the phone and her foot accidently hit the "Delete" button for the entire week. It's happened before.....a whole 18 minutes of bugged telephone conversations back in 1972......there was even a picture to prove how it could have been done. Some of us can remember when 12,500 was $8 (or even less). I may not be able to jump as much, but I'll never quit. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Yeah, I always got a kick out of the guy, even though I seldom agreed with him. A real gentleman. RIP Bill. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

It's possible he might also get creamed by a satellite re-entering the earth's atmosphere. And about as likely. If a guy hits once, he'll hit again. It's his way of acting out and drunk & pissed off is no excuse, it only strips away the veneer. I've been married close to 27 years and have been drunk and/or pissed off with my wife plenty of times. I can bellow like a maniac, she can scream back like a troll and we both stomp around and slam doors. We don't hit each. People who hit are hitters. Period. So what happened, your guy hit you ? Dump him before it happens again. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

I remember those commercials. There was another one where they were all riding on a ferris wheel and lighting up. Matter o' fact, I think The Flintstones wuz on right after....Ripcord ! Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Since you bring up the Perris fatality, I think it's necessary to review the facts of this incident, so that this discussion doesn't go off in the wrong direction about AAD reliability. Michele Spray lived in Huntington Beach, a sea level community on the coast. She apparently was in the habit of turning on her Cypres in the morning before leaving home, as Airtech's examination of the Cypres showed it had been turned on at 30 ft MSL. The dropzone at Perris is 1450 ft MSL. So at the point of impact, her Cypres was still - "correctly" - reading her altitude as 1420 ft and still above firing altitude. Secondly, Michele had a history of hard pulls with her pilot chute. She used to post at dropzone.com as "The Michey One" and once posted a thread a year or two previously about going unstable with a hard pull. That time she gave up on the p/c and pulled her reserve at a lower than acceptable altitude, but claimed to have learned from the experience. Unfortunately it seems she did not. An eyewitness to her death, from several hundred yards away saw a flash of yellow just before impact. Her reserve p/c was yellow and she was found with the ripcord completely out of the housing and the freebag some 6 ft from her body, suggesting that she pulled at the last moment, rather than the reserve being deployed by force of impact. Finally, her worst mistake was loss of altitude awareness and failure to pull silver until she was hopelessly low. That's the final mistake that really cost this lovely young woman her life. This was a terrible accident to happen and it killed a young woman who was well liked at the dropzone. But she obviously didn't understand how her AAD worked or how to correctly and safely use it. Since her death, a standard question Perris LO's ask is how many people are wearing AADs, "Did they turn them on today, and did they turn them on HERE at the dropzone?". We have also had a Cypres save of an experienced jumper who was accidently kicked around his shoulders in such a way that he could not use his arms, they were temporarily paralyzed and would not obey his urgent desire to pull. And last year in Florida, no less a great skydiver than Al Kreuger himself was saved by an AAD (FXC Astra) after a door injury prevented him from pulling with either of his arms. (Al was seriously injured, as he was unable to prevent his reserve from flying into power lines and dropping him some 30 ft to the ground below, but without the AAD he would have certainly died.) We've also had a number of "knucklehead" AAD deployments at Perris, where the jumper just wasn't paying attention, but jumpers are immediately grounded for thirty days unless they can demonstrate a physical injury that prevented a pull. I'm not sure if I'd want to use an AAD for CRW either, but maybe a "Swooper's" model Cypres, that can be turned off after the main is deployed might be a good compromise. First, I object to "Spoiler" threads that give something away even if you don't open them. the greenies should block, or re-title them. Second, I REFUSE to watch a garbage show about a central character who cooks meth. My daughter knew two kids she went to school with who were both beaten and shot to death by meth tweekers. One of their bodies was dumped in the parking lot of middle school where a teacher found it in the morning. The other was a GIRL who was beaten so badly the tweakers thought she was dead, so they took her out into the woods to bury her. When she started to come around, they shot her in the head. And you say people actually watch TV shows about this SHIT ?? It's sick, and so are you if you even watch. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

With either men or women, it's all mental. Male and female orgasms may be different, but the enjoyment and intensity, or whether you even have one at all, depend entirely on what's going on inside the brain. Quickies can be very exciting and a blowjob can be a total bore. A long slow buildup can be exquisite or excruciating, it all depends on the mood. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

I do not view the Serbs as innocent, but they are not 100% at fault here. Okay, well I'll go for 99.9% then. Fucking Serbs have been whining like little crybabies about how picked on they are, while they've systematically murdered Bosnians, Croatians, and Kosovar Albanians. I mean think about it - they had to be really BAD to get Bill Clinton to go to war with them. Fuck the Serbs, they brought it on themselves. For burning our embassy, the US should firebomb the fucking city of Belgrade. Serbs are vermin, just like the Palestinians. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Try saying the words bacwards. "Ho kcuf !", "Wa tish !", or my favorite, "Rekcufrehtom" (pronounced "reckufrethom"). The savior's name does not pronounce well backwards, which is probably as it should be. Though I have heard people say "Cheese & rice". Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Montana prepares to secede from the Union...
tbrown replied to Nightingale's topic in Speakers Corner
Interestingly enough, the main reason Jefferson Davis was nevr brought to trial for treason was that the government feared he could make a persuasive argument in court that secession was constitutional. So rather than press the matter, they let him go and he fled to England. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
what's the primary way you got to your current skill level?
tbrown replied to countzero's topic in Safety and Training
I'm very encouraged by how atitudes have changed about jumping with newbies over the years. Thirty years ago, newbies couldn't get on a decent load with anybody. they jumped with each other and flailed all over the place, eventually learning how the hard way. Nowadays, I see newbies getting on good organized loads, where a knowledgable LO puts them in a good slot (and that's not always in the base either) where they will be SAFE and sensibly challenged to the extent of their current ability. And yes, I jump with newbies too. It's fun. they're not jaded like some of us. And they're learning SO quickly ! Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
1st malfunction--probably due to hard inserts in pillows
tbrown replied to robconway's topic in Safety and Training
I'm in complete agreement. Handle mods are not the answer, I'm not sure where or how I gave anyone that impression. What I mean is we all have to be responsible about protecting our handles and staying away from everyone else's. No more & no less. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
How did you're first Hop & Pop go?
tbrown replied to Sletzer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first hop & pop was also my first freefall - and my first packjob. That was in 1974. It went great. I still remember having to punch the ripcord ( a 4 pin) a second time to get it to come out, but after that everything was perfect. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
Hillary sees an open seat in a state she's never lived in before and says, "Oooh! An opportunity to GET IN to the senate!" Some states require you be a resident of that state for 3 years, I guess Hillary found herself a little loophole for a power express lane. Why does it seem that Obama and McCain just go out there and be themselves whether you agree with them or not? They seem to be hiding a lot less. I'm no big fan of Hillary, but in all fairness, Robert Kennedy did exactly the same thing in 1964, after resigning as Attorney General. He moved to NY state and unseated the incumbent Senator Kenneth Keating. In fact, Hillary's seat IS the very same seat, after it passed to Charles Goodell, James Buckley, and Moynihan. So maybe it's a "guest seat" ? Anyway, it's nothing new. My boss makes an interesting point that Obama was only elected to the Senate two years ago, and that his only reason for running was to make a move on the Presidency. Hillary at least has 8 years on the job and is generally respected, even by her Republican adversaries, as a hard worker. So we've got two ambitious go-getters slugging it out now. I don't like that Hillary's conducting a purge of her campaign staff, I don't think they're the problem, but she's reverting to type by firing people. In November, McCain would make mincemeat of Hillary. But Obama can actually win this thing - and McCain knows it. McCain desperately wants to run against Hillary. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

With McCain all but certain to be the Republican candidate, I'm thinking he can beat Hillary, but maybe not Obama. People near McCain reportedly think so too. If the Reps go for ideological purity and run Preacher Huckabee instead, either Dem will kick his ass. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

This is an election year. The entire House and 1/3 of the Senate are up for re-elction. I don't think ANY of them want to have to explain a vote in favor of EADS. Phil Condit (or Fill Condom, as I prefer to think of him) and Harry Stonecipher are both happily departed from Boeing and both are just lucky they're not stamping license plates. But American jobs are American jobs and the tanker will save the 767 line and the jobs that depend on it, so I say stick with Boeing. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

I sympathise, but isn't it a bit much to blame it on Mr Bean and Blackadder? Duh, I don't get it.... What I don't understand is why Muslims who love their Sharia law so much don't stay in, or return to the Islamic sewer states of their choice, where they can lop off all the heads and/or hands they like. A system of law that flogs and imprisons a teenage girl for the "crime" of being gang raped by married men is EVIL and must be resisted by all CIVILISED people. A British commisioner in India once addressed the "custom" of suttee, in which widows were burned alive on the funeral pyres of their deceased husbands. He said if that was the local custom, he understood. But the locals had to understand that HIS custom was to hang the men who would do such a thing, so he would be happy to build a gallows next to the funeral pyre, so that both people could practice their customs together. Now these people were Hindu and not Muslim, but the guy got his point across and made it stick. Seriously, I wonder that Elizabeth II doesn't excercise her right as Defender of the Faith (it is still a state church in the UK) to call the good bishop on the carpet and tell him to put a sock in it.
