Condoleeza Rice as Possible VP Candidate
tbrown replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
I've got no problemo with her running, if that's what she wants to do. She won't get my vote, nor will John McCain. But there's no reason why Condi can't run on a ticket and campaign on issues as she sees them. As long as she's 35 years old, was born a US citizen and has lived inside the US for a minimum of 14 years, there's not a reason on earth why she can't run. I'm sure a lot of people would vote for her, which is animprotant consideration ANY Presidential candidate gives to a potential running mate. That's how our system works. God bless America. On a happier note, I got two sixpacks of Trader Joe's Joseph Brau Winterfest today at a closeout price (winter brew now that it's springtime) of $2.99 a sixer... It isn't just the price of hops increasing by almost sevenfold, it's also the barley, which has about doubled. The leading culprit is fuel grade corn, which the farmers are all growing now. Well, they have to make a living too, and GOOD beer is taking the hit. Of course you can always buy the rice & corn Budweiser/Miller bullshit, but I'd rather go on the wagon... Hell, my grandfather even complained about having to share a hospital room with a "Blockhead" (what the Irish called the Swedes), the guy was a delightful elderly Swedish-American gentleman. A book I really want to read is Geraldo Rivera's "His Panic". Now don't get me wrong, 99% of the time I think Geraldo's a shameless, self promoting, sensationalist scumbag. But I heard an interview with him about his new book and he makes the point that ALL the arguments being made now against mostly Hispanic immigration are the same old crap that used to be aimed at Irish, Italian, Jewish, Russian, Chinese, Polish, you-name-it waves if immigrants. I hear a lot of the same crap from my wife's family about how the Vietnamese have "ruined" So. California, which is something I haven't seen, living right here in Orange County. Not that the Vietnamese don't have their own problems with youth gangs that every other group has ever had. Geraldo's family came to the US - legally - from Puerto Rico. And I used to hear a lot of crap about the "bloody Puerto Ricans" when I lived back on the east coast. The Republic hasn't imploded yet. By the way, has anyone noticed the large number of Hispanic surnames among the decorated, dead or wounded GIs serving in Iraq or Afghanistan ? Some of them have even earned their citizenship along with their Purple Hearts. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
The IOC are a bunch of self congratulating dolts who can't even see the value of restricting the Olympics to DEMOCRACIES, which now constitute, to one degree or another, something like 2/3 of the world's governments. Can't wait to see what the SF/Berkeley rads will do either. They've got their REPUTATION at stake, especially after London & Paris. Up by the Bay, everything the rads do has to make noise or stink, because they KNOW they're right.... Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

I still like wearing tie dyes. I hardly wear tie dyes anymore, except for the dropzone, where people still appreciate them. A few are crappy mass produced stuff, but most of them are hand made shirts that I got from the makers at street or country fairs, or (better yet) outside Grateful Dead concerts. Sadly though, some of the best and most beautiful of them are getting old and sprouting holes. Then in the summertime I'll wear them with a bathing suit, which keeps things nice & light underneath a jumpsuit. Also helps anytime I want to fall into the pool at Perris. I miss skydiving - advice for returning jumper
tbrown replied to sandi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, I came back after 22 years out raising some kids. Numero Uno, hope you've saved your logbooks, though if you're jumping at the same dropzone after only 4 years, they should remember you. Otherwise, you'll probably have to start over as if you were a newbie (they cannot just take the word of every psycho who walks in off the street, and it does happen...). If it's only been four years, you're probably familiar with ZP canopies, or might even still own your own rig. Get your rig into a local rigger, get your AAD serviced if it needs it, and get your reserve repacked. You might do better starting out on student or rented gear for a bit before you get back to the gear you used to jump. Recurrency training will review your emergency procedures and the other essential stuff. Other than that, take a good half a dozen or so jumps to go solo, or on nothing more than 2 or 3 Way size stuff. You need to get the feel for your basics back. But it will happen quickly enough. Just don't try to step back in where you left off. And welcome back ! Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
I've never bitched about it. I get bored easily and don't want a guy that has to go all night. 5-10 minutes and i'm happy....or course i do like to blow him first. Good girl ! You sound a whole lot like my wife (I'm so lucky...). Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

During that stop, Athans admitted he had been at the hotel with a woman he met on the Internet and that he paid her $150 to do the deed. Police later went to the hotel and arrested the lady of the evening. So how come HE wasn't arrested too ? Isn't it also illegal to avail oneself of the illegal services of said prostitute ? Well idn't it ? Oh, of course, the guy's a Senator's husband. I see no reason why a woman should be arrested and treated like a criminal if she chooses to sell her sexual favors. As long as her choice is free and voluntary, both she and her customers should be left alone. If you want to pass an ordnance against hustling on the street, fine. If you want to license the profession and charge a fee for the license, also fine. If the woman's being coerced, then deal with whoever's coercing her by arresting them and letting her go. But once again, it's the woman who has gone to jail, while the man of means, who creates the demand, walks free. It's just wrong. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Should Hillary drop out for the good of the Democratic Party?
tbrown replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
I think it's time for both Hillary and Obama to stop running against each other and start running against John McCain. Because McCain's getting an undeserved free ride from now until Labor Day. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
God, it makes me so sad to see another beautiful young life gone. PLEASE let's all be careful out there, it's never over until we're down and back in the packing area. My deepest condolences and prayers for her family and friends. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Hillary Clinton, Re: "Misspeaking" about Bosnia Visit
tbrown replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
Reminds me of Pat Robertson's claim to have won a Siver Star in Korea. Then another guy from his unit spilled the beans that Robertson had called his daddy, a US Senator, from Japan just before the unit shipped out for the war zone. When they left, Robertson was not onboard. He "served" the liquor to his fellow officers in the club back at Japan for the rest of his tour and the only Silver Star he ever handled musta been some exotic brand of vodka. I'm not a vet, but I despise anyone who falsely claims to have been in combat. It steals from the honors that can only go to those who have been there and served. Hillary's chopped liver as far as I'm concerned, especially against John McCain's very real record as a "guest" of the Hanoi government. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -

Sgt Brown was on NPR's "The Story" a few nights ago. She sounds like a very focused, matter of fact young woman. And she doesn't consider herself a hero either, she said she was doing what she'd been trained to do and that you tend to think of the team and not yourself when things start happening. Apparently everyone else thought she did better than that. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! -
Also Nordhoff & Hall's "Bounty" trilogy. Mutiny On the Bounty is the story of the actual mutiny, ending with some of the mutineers hanged back in England, while others find permanent exile on Pitcairn Island. The Open Boat is the story of how Captain Bligh led the loyal faction of his crew on an open boat journey of over 1200 miles, after being set adrift to die in the middle of the South Pacific. Inspite of extreme privation and encounters with cannibals, Bligh and his men made it with the loss of only one life. And finally Pitcairn Island tells the story of the mutineers who settled on the island. But they didn't bring as many women as men and soon racial frictions between the English and Tahitian men turned the island into a deadly civil war among themselves. All based on the facts of a true story. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Will there be rioting if Obama looses the General Election?
tbrown replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Why should there be rioting ? One of the things that makes America stand out is that we can hold a hotly contested election without having to send tanks into the streets. If we didn't have rioting or martial law after the 2000 Bush/Gore election, why should we now ? Historic footnote: actually there was a bit of a problem after Abe Lincoln's election in 1860. It was called The Civil War.... Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
